A new water short premiered in front of World of Color: ONE yesterday to promote Inside Out 2. I will say - the first 3 minutes of this mini show is better than any addition to WoC they've done in a long while, and almost certainly better than anything in the show it precedes. I wouldn't mind them adding that Bundle of Joy sequence into WoC proper.

They’ll learn the wrong things and I don’t think sequels are the answer but I think they re right to steer away from autobiographical tales. I remember catching some heat here for saying Turning Red had the narrowest target demo I could remember from any Disney film. Sounds like I was kind of on to something.
But autobiographical-influenced tales shouldn’t just be dismissed as a possibility: I loved Luca. Whatever personal experience elements helped form that film… they ended up turning it into a fresh, quirky, unique little gem that wouldn’t otherwise have been concocted.

Of course…. All a story-pitcher would really have to do is just not MENTION whether or not it’s autobiographical, and the problem goes away! 😃

I agree. Ultimately it comes down to execution but maybe you’re at inherent disadvantage going with an autobiographical tale if you don’t have a director that’s focused on making sure it’s something that appeals to the masses.

Fantastic review of the Galactic Starcruiser by Jenny Nicholson. If you have 4 hours to spare, it's incredibly thorough in explaining what the experience was and what went wrong from a guest perspective.

Yeah, I'm not going to watch a 4-hour breakdown of Galactic Starcruiser.

Well, I'm 3 hours into it and I can't stop watching.

I can't believe they designed a dinner show with this view. 2 performers and they are blocked out by the pillars for most of the show.

Do I dare invest my precious time lazy days of retirement to watch this 4 hour video?

I looked at that video briefly last week, but haven't sat down to watch. It sounds like something I should do.

The Galactic Starcruiser isn't just interesting because it was a huge failure, as even the most successful companies full of talented people have failures once in awhile (New Coke, Edsel Division of Ford, Light Magic).

Instead, the Galactic Starcruiser is interesting because it was a failure swaddled and bathed in so much corporate hubris, and vapid pompousness, and cringey virtue signaling. With a dollop of vague disdain for the core customers. The Galactic Starcruiser was 2020's Disney Parks in its most pure and distilled form yet. I should probably watch the video, huh?

I listened to it while cleaning the house. A few times I thought to pull out my phone to see what she was describing but I didn't. I may go back for those bits some day. Or look online to see if someone has the timestamps for me.

I think there's a trend here....

For those wondering about the time investment required by the video, it's broken up into several different parts and time-stamped. It's pretty dense and focused for requiring such a long time investment.

I didn't follow the Starcruiser saga super closely when it was open, put off as I was by the concept and price, but watching this video I was rather gobsmacked by the lack of thought put into some of the elements of the experience. She has several thoughts on the overall parks experience that are voiced in the background throughout the video that I think most here would agree with as well.

Do 30 minutes a day!

I’m telling you it’s right up your alley, you can tell she’s going to do a video on Disney’s newest ride as well. Same principles apply.

Sorry but I don’t consider it weird. It’s not being released under the Castle banner, it’s being released under 20th Century. So just because they use a “Disney” account to promote it on socials isn’t weird to me. It’s been 5 years, got to get used to Disney promoting stuff that’s non-core Disney under 20th Century.

But to each their own.

You don't have to be sorry

Thank you to @truecoat @davis_unoxx @Parteecia and @PiratesMansion for convincing me I needed to watch that Galactic Starcruiser 4 hour long video. I just finished a few minutes ago, and I'm so glad I did it!

About one hour in I looked up and realized an hour had already gone by. So I got resettled in, and watched...

That young lady had so many great and brilliant points, based on her own personal experience. A few that stuck out to me:
  • I was infuriated when Disney would screw up her service or make a costly mistake, she would go through the regular and official channels for a correction, and Disney would shut her down and essentially say "Sorry, no refunds, nothing I can do, you should have read the fine print". Then she'd go on her Twitter and report on that and POOF!, suddenly a Disney rep is responding to her personally and refunding her money and sending her the replacement merchandise with a bunch of extra free swag because she has a lot of Twitter followers. That makes me so mad. 😡 Shame on Disney for behaving like that to the 99.98% of their customers who don't have Twitter followers!
  • Her clip summation of all of those WDI and Burbank execs circa 2015-2021 bragging and outright lying at D23 Expo and on the Parks Blog about what would be in Star Wars Land and/or Galactic Starcruiser was hysterical. These execs are frauds. And liars. And shameless.
  • The criticism of the crowded and slow check-in and boarding process in that Brutalist cement porte cochere with only one elevator shuttle up to the hotel was alarming. I hadn't realized it was that bad. How could they get that basic ride capacity issue so wrong after operating major theme parks for 65+ years?
  • Her analogy using the circa 2000's Kim Possible game with flip phones was stark and troubling. So you are telling me the wealthiest and most successful entertainment company on the planet can make a free cell phone game in 2008 that is vastly better and more fun than a $3,000 per night theme hotel in 2023? Got it. Did I mention these execs are frauds?
  • I gave her a Like, I Subscribed, and after the first hour I let every single ad run through its full cycle so she got every last nickel from Clairol and Carhart and Chevrolet. This young lady is sharp! What a treasure she is. Savvy, intelligent, well spoken, charming, witty, and cuttingly accurate with her insight. The costume changes just made me love her even more.
That was 4 hours of my life NOT wasted. A brilliant and insightful summary. I only wish all senior Disney execs would watch it, and learn. And then repent.

She makes some great points in her closing sections about value both perceived and actual, and goes on about how sooner or later, it WILL bite Disney in the rear.

I also enjoyed her whole section about Star Wars Land... I know things were cut, but she had the clips going on and on and on about things that were CUT out of SWL some of which were added into the starcruiser. That section is what got me to look into the public statements and releases about Tiana's to go through what they were saying/pitching vs. what we actually ended up with.

A long video, but well worth the watch (I listened like a podcast myself).
