The Super Mario Bros movie was great! Really like the animation style and the worlds they created were pleasant and appealing. Plot was super simple but I enjoyed it. Jack Black as Bowser is hilarious. Best of all, I didn’t feel like I was being preached to about anything. Definitely prefer Illumination and Dreamworks last 3-4 movies to Disney/Pixar’s. Maybe I’m late to the party but Disney has some serious competition.

Hey, random thought, how cool with an elaborate Frasier dark ride be? Damn, Disney needs that property. Maybe Universal will do it.

One of my students learned how to use a sticker machine and she asked me if I wanted anything printed, so I requested this. Wish Disney would tap into early DCA nostalgia with merch. I know it was an ugly spot in the company's history, but I love the aesthetic of that original logo.

I'm sure they'll eventually get to it.

If you want to talk about an ugly spot in the company's history that has been turned into a whole line of merchandise, I present to you...

I'm not usually one for Disney clothing, but I must admit that I did pick up a Euro Disney t-shirt when I was there a few weeks back!

Not to mention the synergy- Universal distributed the Mario movie and they just opened Mario land in Universal Hollywood.

Check out the Business Wars Podcast series on Pixar vs Dreamworks. It's fascinating. Disney really does have some intense competition. Other studios are able to make comparable films at a fraction of the cost- leading to much higher profits.

Disney Animation really needs to work at reducing their bloated costs, or creating films that are so good the bloated production costs are justifiable. I know many like Tangled, and I think it's a perfectly fine film, but I don't think WDA has made a truly amazing animated film since The Lion King.

Just came back from a weeklong stay at Aulani and goodness, when Disney does it right, they do it right. The entire resort is so well designed from the rooms to the pool area (you see Rhode's fingerprints everywhere here), and the service was top notch throughout. The spa was amazing, too; the exfoliation + massage package I got was worth every penny.

The only thing that was a miss for me was the food; some of it (like the character breakfast) was surprisingly really good, while most of the quick service options were bland or geared towards the usual chicken tenders/pizza/burgers (which is understandable since it's a family resort). It's not a deal-breaker, though; there's a shopping center that's a short walk off property with great restaurants at cheaper than Disney prices, and it's next door to a Four Seasons with good restaurants as well.

Glad to hear Disney still knows how to provide hospitality somewhere. Even if not at their parks.

It was brutal. Iger of course had corporate nonanswers for everything but whoever screened these calls is likely getting fired. It was basically an hour of Iger getting roasted live.

I was shocked at a few of the callers- and that Disney actually aired their calls.

I will say a few seemed unhinged. The I want my Premiere Pass back! guy was a bit wacko, as was the guy going on a huge rant about topics that would get my account here banned (even if I agreed with him, for the most part- his approach was poor.)

Yeah the Premier Pass guy is the cringe type of Disney fan apparently Iger even knows who the guy is and had an answer ready for him. I also agree the people talking about issues were unhinged and presented their concerns emotionally instead of rationally.

Mario looks like a blast, and, since I’m a huge fan of all the Mario games, I can’t imagine not having a good time watching it—Going to try to see it this week. I have to agree about the current state of Disney vs. other animation studios. Everything Disney’s doing lately seems so annoyingly committee-approved, smug and preachy. They all have good stories trying to break free, but they’re all smothered by a corporate filter of blandness and self-importance. The last one that really took me by surprise as being something truly “different” was Pixar’s Luca.

I never dreamed that a movie called “Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish” would be my favorite animated film of 2022; when it comes to art style, energy, humor, emotion, a genuinely terrifying villain (in addition to the hilarious “main” baddie), freshness and pure fun, it blows away anything Disney’s done in ages.

TDL's new parade Harmony in Color debuted today:

I absolutely love that opening theme and I adore that we have some Up rep in there (with electroswing "Married Life" to boot). Some floats are a hit or miss for me (looking at you, Incredibles), and to be honest it's kind of a mess thematically, but that's hardly a dig given just how much parade there is to this parade. I'm sure they're just fine. 😂

No dig to Magic Happens because it's such a strong, streamlined parade with a strong POV, but I wish we could get even a fraction of this energy (and performer count) back in the parks. I miss Parade of Dreams.

I have a question about MFSR. Were alternate missions planned for that ride or was it all a rumor? If there were other missions, were they discarded early in the planning?

It was talked about on here back in the day. Here is a location that has good info:

I'm having difficulty finding it but there was an article, released before the opening of Galaxy's Edge, that said there would be three missions in the attraction. I don't recall the third scenario, but one was the ride as it is today and the second involved the Falcon being entered in a race. Never heard why the other scenarios never came to be, but in my opinion they are overdue.

Edit: I see now that chadwpalm has already found your answer.
