We spent the day at Santa Cruz Boardwalk. We had a fabulous day! It's been many years since my husband and I have visited and the first visit for my daughter. She loved it. The Giant Dipper is still awesome (air time!), didn't spend her college fund to attend, and even had a Dole Whip. . :D

This was after visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium yesterday (also a great day). Amazing what you can see and do when you don't spend all your vacation time and money at The House of Mouse. ;)
The Santa Cruz Boardwalk has never let me down. Best Seaside Amusement Park on the planet!

It really is a fun place! We only had a few hours for this trip (it was a spur of the moment afterthought), but managed to get a ride on the Giant Dipper, the log ride, and the Cave Train Adventure dark ride (very cute!). Our daughter went on the log ride twice more by herself (her old parents didn't want to get all wet again.. lol). It's funny because I remember going with a friend when I was her age and we rode that log ride so many times that the workers knew our names. 🤣

She wants to go back sometime for a full day adventure. It would be fun to have the time to play minigolf and hang out at the beach some more. Maybe next summer with the cousins.... hmmm..... 🤔

That miniature golf course is great; It’s got animatronics and a pirate cannon that blasts smoke rings across the course! :D

Undertow, the spinning coaster, is also a lot of fun. Not as fun as Giant Dipper, but a great choice for the park’s “B” coaster. 😃

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has tremendous atmosphere, and I can't wait to get back (my previous visit being was on the day of a wedding, so I only had a limited amount of time there). There is at least one dark ride I didn't get a chance to do because of time constraints. I DID get a chance to do, and enjoy, the cave train ride.

THAT SAID, I can't say I cared for either of their coasters, particularly the Giant Dipper with those horrendous Morgan trains, which to me are ride ruiners. I remain mystified by California's somewhat-waning-but-still-significant-by-comparison-to-literally-anywhere-else insistence on using those coaster trains. I fully realize that they were in part designed for this ride, but to me that doesn't make them any less awful or insufferable. So I'll have a nice day of atmosphere, dark rides, and ring grabbing instead when I return.

The tentative plan is to get back out there next year (brought about by Great America's future closing), during which time I can also finally visit Discovery Kingdom (not expecting greatness, but y'know, it's new to me) and Gilroy Gardens, which will unfortunately no longer be included with a Cedar Fair pass. Oh well, what can you do?

Lol just 7? With my kids in the backseat that sounds like 17 hours.
Hey, as a Northern Californian most of my life, I have done the road trip to DL countless times both as a kid and as the driver. BEFORE cell phones were invented! :D

Best advice a I can give: Never underestimate the “I Spy” road trip game. :D

Thanks I’ll take it! I can live with temporary. I’m reminded that they did bring back the proper Frontierland gate when all hope was lost so maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt?

I didn’t realize the turf in front of Lincoln was changed too. I thought it was only on the other side so far next to City Hall

It looks like it was both sides that were changed. Yeesh

I live 45 minutes from Santa Cruz and it's been years since I've been there. All the good days to go on the weekend when it's hot is when it is usually very crowded and it's hard to find parking.

Santa Cruz has some of the best ice cream shops though.

Lol aren’t you gonna be on a plane for like 6 hours to go to Florida next year? What’s the difference?😂

Lol hey until I’m on the plane I can always cancel. We re extremely indecisive on what we want to do next Spring. Looking into cruises now that most cruise lines removed their vax requirements. Driving to the cruise port, parking my car in Long Beach and being done sounds so much more relaxing than a WDW trip.
