I dont think the "you" in Mac Tonight was meant for any single person.

You are right they probably do have very good reason to favor the blind fans and infrequent visitors.

Infrequent visitors will probably get inconvenienced by all this new cell phone and genie garbage, but a week later they'll forget and by next visit it will be a long distant memory.

I have a coworker who is a DVC member and spends boatloads money each year at DL and WDW and they are totally blind fans who "love Disney". And thats OK and I'm glad they're having a great time. But it's certainly not my personality.
I don’t even think the cell phone usage bothers people. I know you’ve expressed personal annoyance with it here in the forum and it bothers me as well, mainly because I hate draining my battery for insignificant reasons and I don’t want to order food on my phone. But we’re obviously a minority.

I have a friend who’s an AP and she contacted me a few weeks ago WHILE she was at DCA, which I thought was strange. I told her to enjoy herself. People like my friend and your co-worker can spend their money on the parks whichever way they see fit. It’s their money. It’s the completely loyal and blind ones that are a piece of work.

I saw the phones be an inconvenience in real time all the time though. People every 20 seconds were walking up to the dolewhip stand and being told it's mobile order only.

People constantly walking up to Rise of the Resistance and talking to the 3 cast members that form a human chain who give them the news that they had to have won a cell phone lottery at 7am that day to ride.

Craziest part was when we went to the Dole Whip stand when I went with my cousins this summer. They told us they were mobile order only but mobile order has been down for 2 hours and they can't do anything until it's back up.

Later in the day it did go back up and the nearest "pick up time" was 4 hours away.

That's just idiotic and makes the company lose money.

Can't blame my relatives, they go every 5 years since before I was born and came in without knowing you need cell phone reservations to enter the park, cell phone lottery for rise, and mobile order for dole whip.

If they hadn't invited me to go with them (3 days before their last minute trip), they would've shown up at the gates and been denied without a park reservation.

I like cell phones and they can be used in many great ways, how Disney does it, it seems like they were better off before tying so many things to the app.

The lack of a backup system is absurd. Mobile order should not be the only way one can get food in the parks. I actually didn’t know that they don’t use the actual cash registers at all anymore (it’s been a while since I’ve been to the parks).

I don't have a "Magical Key" (what a bad name). But went 3 times last year.

I don't know if all the places were operating as mobile order only.

But I did see that at that time the Corn Dog Cart, Bengal BBQ, Award Weiners, Dole Whip Stand, and Plaza Inn were ONLY mobile order. And it wasn't a matter of just ordering and getting your food via phone, you had to have planned your meal HOURS in advance as pick up times were 3-4 hours away for each of these places.

I don't know if its different now, but in Spring and Summer 2021 this was my experience.

Even my AP DVC coworker was telling me last Spring how their kids were starving and they couldn't locate food for lunch due to Mobile Order times being so far off and had to settle for churros.

It may be different now.

I went again during Christmas time but did sit down reservations only out of caution.

I don’t think any of the eateries should be strictly available for mobile orders. Hopefully it’s not still like that.

If I were your coworker, I would have kindly taken my hungry children to McDonald’s across the street. That’s how Disney loses money.

I forget that Docking Bay 7 exists. Of all the Star Wars themed restaurants they could have built… shipping containers.

Also why wasn’t this a BBQ restaurant? Ribs, chicken and other slabs of meat seem like they would fit right in with Star Wars and would fill the void if losing Big Thunder BBQ. I wonder being in So Cal and the rise in popularity of vegan / meatless food factored into their decision.

March 12, 2020 was my last DL/DCA visit.

I'd lurked on discussion boards since the '90s so I could learn the latest and impress my friends; we'd all had passes since those days and went at least weekly.

Then covid hit and due to my particular circumstances I locked down hard. My soulmate died in 2019, my 18 year old cat in spring 2020 and I was pretty lost. Looking for any distraction, I became more interested in this site and gradually started posting and we know where that leads.

You have all immensely helped me survive this thing. Unexpected ideas have tickled and intrigued me. I've gotten pleasure from shared agreement and when someone articulates what I couldn't. The adversarial posts make me think and all of it has forced me to work at communicating well.

So! I've gone from being intensely interested in learning about Disney's latest but never participating to not really caring about the parks but enjoying the give and take and humanity of this forum. Thank you.

I spent some time today in that Galactic Starcruiser thread over on the WDW side.

My God. We think we have problems at Disneyland? That thing opens in a few days and it's already a dumpster fire. Not since DCA 1.0 and Light Magic have I seen such cheap budgeting and questionable design choices! This will be fun to watch from afar, like a good car crash, but thank God it wasn't built in Anaheim just off Ball Road.
It opens March 1st, right? There was a time when March-May was pretty much fully booked. Now only March and April are fully booked. May is 3/4 booked and June through September hardly any bookings. If I remember correctly, they only give partial refunds when your booking time is within so many days. So the March and April bookings are pretty much locked in or they lose money. They will be the guinea pigs and give the official word-of-mouth reviews (since they can't take pics inside). Those are the elites that can afford it and want the bragging rights to say they are the first to do it (as with anything else with die-hard Disney/SW fans).

For $6000 Daisy Ridley better be offering a personal escort service.

And of course the true irony (at least for me) is that even the most staunch, "I'm not giving Disney another dime" people on here are still willingly giving Disney their time. Disney lives rent-free in so many of our minds, and this forum (though unofficial) lets people scratch that Disney itch in a way that also weirdly somehow makes them feel like they're "above" the average park-goer because, at the very least, they're not paying the price of admission!

Well, jokes on you. You're still addicted.
I've seen so many "I'm not renewing my pass next year" posts on Reddit (and some here), but we know they will. It's just a feeble tactic to try and persuade Disney to change their ways, but they won't.

This community definitely has its share of disagreements, but that's what family is all about. Glad you're here with us!

Which makes saying it on unofficial sites like this even more ironic, where really, nothing would ever change. I feel like it's almost become the "cool" thing around here to just dunk on any and everything Disney does, regardless of what it is, or if it's something they would personally do.

There's a reason someone on MiceChat once referred to the users here as, "a hive of miserable bastards".
