I spent some time this afternoon puttering around the yard, taking it all in before someone else takes ownership of the dump. It was 72 degrees, a slight breeze, crystal blue skies, leaves rustling, birds chirping, hummingbirds humming, trees I'd planted 20 years ago now worthy of Sunset Magazine, etc. A perfect midwinter day in SoCal.

I was thinking back to the winters I spent back East decades ago. They can be miserable, especially in the cities and suburbs, and this weekend they're having a doozy of a winter storm from Indiana to New Hampshire. Cold winds, dirty slush from last week's blizzard refreezing into dirty ice mounds, sleet, freezing rain, blowing snow, and power outages to boot. And the groundhog just declared six more weeks of winter!

Let's all take a moment to appreciate what we have, and what we get to enjoy. Have a great weekend friends!

I think part of the problem is there’s really very little going on, at least that’s not currently announced and/or under construction.

Funny how a global pandemic, a complete collapse in revenue for an entire fiscal year, and a visionless set of execs can do that, isn't it? 🧐

Heck, even the Socialist critics of the company like Dr. Moreno have gone silent.

I remember when this forum was the place where rumors originated. I think Mickey And Minnie's railway was leaked here way before anywhere else.
DL insider info on here clamped down when the DIS Insider story came out. However long ago that was. I noticed TP in particular stopped posting info after that.

So observing some reactions at the Spider-Man show recently It occurred to me that some (maybe most?) people believe the Spider-Man stuntronic is a real person. None of us here /hardcore fans do obviously as we ve seen the footage for months/ years leading up to Avengers Campus opening but the average person probably thinks he’s real right? I feel like there’s a mix of people in the crowd that are marveling at the technology and some that are marveling at a human being doing an amazing stunt. It was interesting as it was just something that never crossed my mind before.

We had a nice little 2 day trip last at DLR last week. CMs are a little on the grumpy side again for the most part though. Maybe they don’t like the vaccine mandate. Anyway, we stayed at the Grand and took advantage of the “cheap” January rates while also celebrating our nephews birthday. We originally only had one night booked but my wife just got promoted so we decided to extend the stay. Lol. Also, going anywhere for one night with young kids is just never really worth the effort. We didn’t get our bags to our room until 8pm at night. I just couldn’t imagine moving the half a house we brought with us back the very next morning.

First day we bought Genie + for the fam so we could skip lines with my impatient Dad and 82 year old grandma. Second day at DL we didn’t buy it and I honestly had a way better time. My parents really aren't theme park people. Especially my Dad. Every time we go with my parents I feel so my much pressure to show them a good time. A lot of mental activity to optimize the day because they re not exactly rope drop or stay til close people either. It’s also just not very fun staring at your phone all day for Genie + in addition to mobile ordering etc. Next day at DL I didn’t buy Genie + as my parents and grandma went back home and we had an amazing time. I think I sat on every bench at the park. Just slow rolling and letting the day come to us. As slow as we moved (due to 5 kids all 6 and under) we still managed to get on POTC, HM, DLRR, Dumbo, Casey Jr, Tea Cups, BTMRR, Autopia and ROTR (thanks to Lightning Lane via my Disney Rewards dollars and it being my sons favorite ride now AND him being so disappointed when I lied to him and told him it was closed lol).

Highlight of the day was riding the Horseless Carriage 10 deep with an awesome CM named Craig and him letting us do a round trip since nobody was waiting at the Hub. By the time we got back to Town Square we were chanting his name and as he’s parking he turns to the characters and CMs on the DLRR train station steps and says “What do you think of me now Characters?”

Just curious for any WDW vacationers here - where would the Grand Californian rank amongst the Deluxe hotels at WDW? We love the lobby, piano player, location next to the park, theme/ grounds and just the relaxing feel of the place. Food isn’t great. With that said we ve eaten everywhere at the hotel except Napa Rose. Also, beds were kind of uncomfortable but we do like the more modern refreshed rooms.

Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are very similar, but slightly better IMO. WL for the secluded feeling, geyser, nicer pools, lots of good food options and boat to MK. AKL is better for the food, theming, and obviously the savannah with animals roaming around.

And that is exactly what Disney wanted with this. It is a testament to the technology having people think it's a real person in the suit.

I would say all of the WDW deluxes are as good or better than GCH for amenities and theming except for maybe the dedicated DVC resorts and the contemporary (nostalgia aside). One thing none of them have however , is the GCH covenience to the parks - none of them compare to GCH in that respect.

Yeah I agree but just based off of some thorough YouTube videos I’ve seen. I’d imagine GCH ranks toward the bottom but like you said it’s location is a big perk. So if you re factoring in that and it’s impact on your vacation than maybe it’s more toward the top of the list.

Yeah, outside of Napa Rose, the food is pretty subpar at GCH for a Deluxe Hotel. Craftsman is basically your standard hotel pool restaurant /bar food and very inconsistent at that. Craftsman is interesting in that when you view it as an extra place to eat if you feel like taking a break from the park it’s fine and they have some decent options. From the perspective of a hotel guest however it falls short. Storytellers is so overpriced for the breakfast buffet food quality and to watch 4 characters do a parade every 20 minutes.

For sure. My point however was that somehow the fact that some guests think the stuntronic is real completely escaped me until very recently. And I’m betting I’m not the only one.
