I would say all of the WDW deluxes are as good or better than GCH for amenities and theming except for maybe the dedicated DVC resorts and the contemporary (nostalgia aside). One thing none of them have however , is the GCH covenience to the parks - none of them compare to GCH in that respect.
I’d say Beach club comes the closest depending how close your room is you can be at Epcot international gateway in less than 30 seconds.

They create names for their respective five groups, have their vests made, and go to the parks together. Why does this bother some folks?

I mean, Disney “Biker Gangs?” Kind of a silly concept. I think it’s cringey but I’m not sure they necessarily bother me. One time as we walked into the park a whole bunch of them were walking down Main Street with bubble wands and filled the whole street with bubbles. It was kind of entertaining as a one off event but I wouldn’t want to see this sort of thing become common nor would I want to see large numbers of these people at the parks at once. Not the vibe I’m going for and it’s not a culture I want to see grow at the park. Also, their were reports that a few of these groups started getting territorial and at that point it’s gone way too far.

I remember an article that said they try and help Disney security? or something. It was weird.

If they’re getting territorial, that’s unacceptable. But I’ve seen people get irritated just for them existing, which is absurd.

How would seeing large quantities of these folks hinder your visit, personally? Especially if they’re minding their business. I’m genuinely asking.
One of them literally said Toontown Fight Club 🤣
Yeah, that’s very ridiculous in a funny way, but if they’re not bothering anyone and keeping to themselves, let the Toontown Fight Club members enjoy themselves. Lol.

The more of them there are the more chances there are for things like bubble parades, fights between the different groups etc. Also because large groups of them takes away from the escapism and the “biker gang” aesthetic is just not something I care to see in large numbers at Disneyland.

Regarding the first part of your response, have there actually been reports of this happening multiple times? Or are you just assuming something like this would likely happen because they’re “gangs?”

Regarding the last part, that’s definitely a personal thing. I think there are a lot of things in the park that potentially ruin an escapism feeling, but we pick and choose. To each their own.

Not my cup of tea but I can see it as kind of fun and creative if they’re self-aware and understand how silly it is, and I really hope that’s the case. But in the back of my mind I just can’t shake the idea that these people are slightly too serious about it.

Does anyone here know?

I think it’s a mixed bag. Some take it too seriously and display some sense of ownership when it comes to the park.

Guests are getting nickled and dimed and played left and right by money-hungry people within the division, but people in biker gang vests are enough to cause a stir. Disneyland guests in the last few decades haven’t been known to be able to be put into one box. There are literally groups of different types of guests. Disney loves taking the money of each and every one of them.

I feel there are much more important things that should annoy us than people in common vests who link up and visit the parks, such as the obvious decline of operations.

One gang member went after another online and I think he took him to court. Folks from the gangs said it was just the two individuals, that the gangs get along.

I dunno. I saw 20 of them walking down Main Street in an organized fashion with bubble wands and arms high up in the air. That’s enough for me. Then also the Micechat report of the feud between two specific groups.

Personally I find the trend of Disneyland social clubs cringy/off-putting (weird to me to co-opt the biker gang aesthetic), but who am I to actively judge considering I've attended a Dapper Day or two myself? So long as they're not disrupting other guests or cast members' experiences (the controversy surrounding the one social club seems to be the exception and not the rule), then I'll just look the other way.

On another note, does this mean no denim jackets for the Hive of Miserable Bastards? I was quite looking forward to designing a patch. :p

When I was quarantining in my Sons room with Covid last month I watched a few well made WDW hotel YouTube videos by some British dude. I think I have it narrowed down to 3 hotels for when I go on my first WDW trip. Polynesian, Beach Club or The Contemporary. But it’s probably more between Beach Club and Polynesian. Port Orleans is a dark horse but the transportation isn’t great.

The Polynesian would be my vote - just a beautiful place, big rooms too

I feel that you could make a case for just about any resort that isn't value tier (although Contemporary, however iconic it is from the exterior, is not to my taste) over there. They're all impressive in their own way. Grand Californian is the only one at DLR that approaches or matches the feel of the resorts at WDW, though I think there are some nice aspects of the Disneyland Hotel as well.

If money was no object, my choice would be Animal Kingdom Lodge, but there are plenty of resorts there that I haven't explored. I was very pleasantly surprised by Coronado Springs in October (and the bar at the top of their new tower has a spectacular view of much of the resort). Of the ones I haven't explored yet, I'd most like to visit Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans, and Wilderness Lodge.
