The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

Thank yins for the good dog thoughts. I think we'll be okay. I'm too much of a soft touch to put him in a crate or leave him alone.

I am thoroughly confused about what leads some posts to be removed while others stay that seem more provocative to me. I suppose it's a question for the ages.

What kind of dog is he? I’m going to try and give my dogs some…”stuff” to help them calm down this year.
He's an 11 year old German shepherd. It's unpredictable: sometimes he paces and whines and other times he sleeps right through it. I got him summer 2020 when it seemed that every neighborhood went fireworks mad. So far treats and distractions work.

What kind are yours?

Sweetie.🥰 I love german shepherds. At least treats work.🙌🏾

If I just count my dog, she’s a chihuahua mix. But my siblings have dogs and I count them as mine, even though technically, they’re not mine lol.

Just a thought, hopefully helpful. My family tends to give our dogs benadryl to help them calmly endure fireworks and thunderstorms. The sleepy side effects seem to do the trick. You have to be a bit careful of the dosage and make sure they aren't the time release capsules, but it tends to work. Best of luck to you and your puppy pals!

Thinking of patriotic Disneyland, I had this hazy memory of Pooh in a parade wearing a red, white and blue top hat, and I assumed it was a July 4th gimmick of some sort. So I Googled... But it was a fake Presidential campaign they had for Pooh in 1972, which is hysterical. I wonder how many of us that voted for Nixon in '72 would switch our votes to Pooh in hindsight? 🤣

This isn't technically July 4th related, but it's wonderfully patriotic. Can you imagine them pulling a stunt like this today? I can't.

How much would you pay on Ebay for this campaign button? I'd bid at least 10 bucks, just to be able to wear it next November.

Was a bit toasty here today, although our high so far this summer is 106 with a “real feel” of 117.

My goodness. Several decades ago, I had to work a 2 year stint just outside Houston (Baytown).

When July arrived that first year, I honestly thought I was going to die. 🥵

Right now just after 4pm Pacific time in Anaheim, things are practically perfect at Disneyland for the big holiday weekend.
75 and cloudless skies, with a light sea breeze coming in from Huntington Beach.

I'd be very interested in seeing a good breakdown of why Pixar has lost the favor of the public in recent years. Looking strictly at box office, the top 3 hits for Pixar have been The Incredibles 2, Finding Dory, and Toy Story 4. All three of these came out in a short window and all three of these were disappointing sequels to very beloved movies. I would highly suspect the disappointment of these movies has been a huge reason why the average consumer is not trusting Pixar anymore as a brand. Monsters University, Inside Out, and Coco, really seemed to be the movies that really resonated with audiences in the last decade. That's 1/3 of the movies they've released.

I'm taking my son up to UCSB on Monday for a week of classes. We are going to hang out in Santa Barbara on Monday. We'll watch fireworks in Oxnard on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday play tourist in Hollywood and do the Getty. I hope the valley isnt too hot on Wednesday & Thursday.

Santa Barbara is gorgeous this time of year. And with all the rain they had, the hills and landscaping will be beautiful. Lake Cachuma is at 101% of capacity for the first time in many years.

If you like seafood and need lunch on the way from Oxnard back into town, I suggest the restaurant called "Lure Fish House". Lure, get it? There's a handful of them in SB and Ventura counties, and there's one near that big outlet mall in Camarillo along the 101. Lure has very fresh seafood from a full menu, fantastic raw oysters, talented bartenders, great presentation, and friendly beachy service. I wish we'd had a Lure in OC when I lived there, but when I used to drive up to SB County to visit family I would always stop at Lure at least once.

I want to talk about my dog some more. I almost bought him a "service dog" vest on Amazon so I could do a photo shoot in DL. At least he looks the part and is far better behaved than a lot of the "service dogs" that I've seen in the parks. Ok, unless someone holds a churro at nose height, then all bets are off. Anyway, I decided it would be too mean to expose him to such an overwhelming environment. I will settle for Photoshop.

Yea, Houston is a sauna in the summer, and not really much different most of the rest of the year…!!!!! :hilarious:
When we lived in No Cal (San Jose -we are original Texans - my Pop was with IBM) from ‘68-‘76, I don’t remember the temps ever even gettin’ into the 90’s.
I remember many wearing a sweater or light coat on summer evenings.
Here, in Austin, you would swelter, and it doesn’t get much below 80 degrees overnight this time of year.
The last time I was in Cali. was in the summer of ‘10 for a one day trip to DLR. We parked in the Mickey and Friends garage, and on the way to the gates there were so many in long pants and hoodies…we were in t-shirts and shorts…!!!!! :hilarious:
Just 2 totally different worlds…!!! ;):)
