I'm watching my last Disneyland fireworks show from my house right now.

For the last 30 years I've had this lovely hillside home about six miles due east of Disneyland. I've seen at least a thousand (I hate math, someone else do that math) fireworks shows erupt out of the western facing windows over those decades. This is my last one, as I've sold this house and am moving on to another state. I was feted by some wonderful neighbors the last few evenings, and each time the host or hostess timed their dessert course to the fireworks ignition, as any good Villa Park host or hostess knows how to do. But tonight it's just me, in this big empty house.

I'm not even staying the night here tonight, as the house is now completely empty, and I have a nearby hotel room for tonight. But I thought I'd bring a good bottle of wine and watch the fireworks one last time. They're lovely. And since Disneyland recently switched to a regular show, with what name I honestly can't remember, they are big and beautiful again like they always were before Covid.

I'm not sad to leave California in its current state, but I'll probably miss seeing the Disneyland fireworks from my hillside abode. Disneyland and the Walt Disney Company has certainly changed the past few years, just like California has. But I'll cherish the memories I had here of this place. It was a wonderful location to live out the last few decades of employment and then retirement.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm not quite gone yet. I'm heading down tomorrow to spend the summer in the old family beach house in La Jolla before my final home is ready for me in Utah. But onward and upward as the Saints say (hopefully they forgot about a few things from previous decades :devilish:)!!!

Farewell Disneyland, and OC, and soon California. It was a very good run! 🧐

Congratulations on making such a big move, literally and figuratively! I hope your new place is better and this new chapter of your life treats you well.

This is a very poignant send off. I hope you have a wonderful summer in La Jolla and that you find a cadre of fabulous hosts and hostesses when you arrive at your new home. Please keep posting here. You class up the joint.

What a nice sentimental post. I am so happy for you and wish you the best in the next chapter of your life.

Best of luck TP! It all happened so fast. I feel like you just told us you decided to move a few weeks ago! Let me know how it goes in Utah and if my family and I should follow you. Haha.

Thank you! I only mentioned it here maybe six months ago after the concept really got rolling with some experts, but it was an idea that began in my head about a year ago.

I love the aesthetics and vibe of southern Utah (and the giant cost of living savings!), and I was surprised at the quality of housing stock and dining/shopping options there. Plus it's just a couple hours of high speed freeway driving to Las Vegas for very good airport connections to the entire planet. I think with children though, you and your wife would be happier in a bigger place like the Salt Lake City metro area, further north than where I'm headed.

This is a very poignant send off. I hope you have a wonderful summer in La Jolla and that you find a cadre of fabulous hosts and hostesses when you arrive at your new home. Please keep posting here. You class up the joint.

Thanks. I've got a few friends who already escaped out there last year, and they promise that I'll fit in.

But, I am updating my wardrobe this summer at Fashion Valley, just to make a splash upon arrival.

Welcome to the dark side! It doesn't need to be Star Wars related, but the ride is a whole lot more fun when there are things to see.

Lol.

I think it’s really the soundtrack and the lasers for me. I’m not sure I really need the stuff to see inside Space Mountain outside of the stars. Especially if the stuff to see looks corny and like Nintendo 64 graphics. Less is more IMO if those are my options.

Disneyland was SLAMMED yesterday. Busiest day I’ve experienced since they reopened and just about as busy as some of the worst days I experienced during the 60th and that was pre Galaxies Edge with the extra capacity and better crowd flow it provides.

The reports of going back to full capacity in May could very well be true. Weekdays also seem busier than weekends due to the So Cal passes and lower tier Keys who are blocked out on weekends. Weekdays in May have been busy the last few years as people with those So Cal 3 day tickets are trying to squeeze their last days in before they expire.

I know this is sac-religious but I think I enjoy it more than the “original.” I just feel a lot more energy. On second thought is it really sac-religious? It’s the 2005 version on its second soundtrack (3rd iteration if you count the original with no soundtrack).

Actually I see your point. Hyperspace has a bit more energy. I think they could add a few asteroids and space projections to make SM more interesting, but of course that's too much to ask.

The 05 soundtrack is a masterpiece IMO. The set up & the big reveal (entering the open dome space) are hard to beat.

I think I said this in the last Hyperspace Mountain thread, but if it hadn't overstayed its welcome past the Season of the Force, it would be far more beloved than it is among regulars on this board. There was a time early in its run too that said HSM was case in point about how what Star Wars really needs is a nice rollercoaster that isn't overthought to death.

Sure, the projections are wonky at times and the tunnel being completely dark is odd, but you can't tell me when the music is blaring and the lasers are blasting that it's not a good time.

I agree. It’s the music and the lasers blasting for me. It could be that it’s a nice change every once in a while but I think I do enjoy it more than the “original.” We’ll see how I feel in July.

The new 2005 version of Space Mountain originally had a lot more projected asteroids and other things. Somehow that all disappeared when Ghost Galaxy was programmed. I wish they would just bring back Rock'it Mountain like they originally intended for nighttime.

This sounds like pre pandemic, where for years and years the busiest times were the weekdays and weekends were nice.

I can only conclude that Disney's operating procedure is that on week days that they can't attract people with full price tickets they cram in as many discounted admission people as they can to make up for it.

My guess is they make most their money on food and parking on weekdays.

That appears to be the case. Monday was a madhouse. We were there for my nephews birthday. Stayed at the hotel Sunday night and went to the park for a few hours and it was already pretty empty/ pleasant at around 8pm.
