So you throw an attack? If you saw that as an attack, you’re inclined to your feelings, but you’ve attacked others as well.

I knew you were going to pick apart that word. Lol. I know you well friend. But wrote it anyway haha

How about came off aggressively? That’s fair

Dropping back in to say I had breakfast with the retired police friend (delicious omelet, always great stories). She said that when the city she worked for hosted the Oscars, the PD got a copy of the script. Any deviation from it, like ANYONE approaching the stage, would've been met with an officer intervening. She thinks he wouldn't have gotten the chance to hit. And any officer allowing it to happen would've gotten royally chewed out.

I found that tidbit interesting enough to share. Dropping back out to go play with my dog.

I don’t have a Twitter, (though lately I’ve been using the public search option)
Also that’s my cue out of here, with your childish ad hominem, not surprising

You and I both know if Will was White he would have been escorted out. And that’s a problem. People need to be treated the same way. That’s what equality is all about. If he was White he would have been escorted out because the Academy would not have dared to not take the opportunity to virtue signal.
And a good many of those howling about Smith would be up in arms that “It was just a smack” and everything is being blown out of proportion.

Blown out of proportion? So you don’t think Will should have been escorted out? I don’t even think he should lose his Oscar.

Agreed. He shouldn't lose his Oscar, and if they do that anyway he'll ride that martyr train for the next 40 years. His Oscar had nothing to do with his behavior last Sunday, and while hardly anyone saw that movie he was in, I assume he deserves the honor.

They shouldn't have kicked him out, because that would cause even more drama from that overly dramatic family that obviously has issues to work through.

Just don't invite him back to the show for at least a few years. He's done. Both literally and figuratively.

But I can't wait for the teary, carefully curated, and cringey Oprah interview with the Smith family later this year!

Interesting! And it makes perfect sense. If any random guy NOT sitting in the front row VIP lounge section had walked up and slapped a presenter or host, their night would have ended dramatically differently than how Will Smith's evening ended last Sunday...

No kidding. The police protecting the event would be in big trouble if had been a snack bar attendant instead of a front row elite.

I'm now adding the LAPD officers protecting the Oscars to the list of people I think showed great restraint in the moments after Will's violent and profane outburst.

Dropping back out to go play with my dog.

You are officially the smartest one in this thread today! :D

In all fairness, by the time security really wrapped their heads around what was going on, Will had stopped. Not defending him, he was embarrassingly immature, but it was a single incident. And unlike a random person, who has the potential to be infinitely crazy, they know Will has a long career of being a responsible person. So it’s definitely partly privilege, but also partly because there are fewer unknowns.

I still think he should’ve been removed solely on the basis of his poor behavior.

It may have been LAPD deference or their particular orders. Police are trained to react while others are still stunned. And to assess threats; as a commoner his walk didn't look threatening to me but it did to her.

Her city's PD relished taking celebrities down a peg and would most likely have stopped him. She had her share of "do you know who I am" run-ins, enough to have comebacks prepared. I'm guessing Kanye should be glad that the Grammys weren't held in her city the year he accosted Taylor.

Back to my dog.

I was at a little sociable tonight, just a few old friends, and of course The Slap Heard 'Round The World was a topic of discussion. It's probably because we've only had Covid to talk about for two years, and everyone is just so over that and doesn't want to mention it again. And then we rolled from Covid right into a new European war that threatens to ignite World War III and destroy the planet in about 45 minutes, so that's not good dinner party conversation. But this Will Smith Oscars thing is clearly something America cares about.

The general consensus is that Will Smith is toast. I heard this afternoon on the radio that his next movie with Netflix has now been "put on hold", and his next movie that's already finished for AppleTV is now of great concern to the company that was going to release it. Oops!
