I've seen the movie and I'm roughly 2/3 finished with the book, but I can't get over how horribly awful and overrated Ready Player One is. Seriously, it feels like it was written by a 3rd grader.

If you're talking about the novel, I agree. I don't think I've ever read a book quite like it; the writing (and Wade's ability to basically do *anything* the plot required) kept making me cringe, but the concept was so much fun I had to finish it.

But, man, do I LOVE the movie despite its imperfections. Pure fun and MUCH better than the book. I've mentioned it before, but as a Spielberg film I rank it right alongside the first Jurassic Park--Flawed, but a really likable, clever, fun thrill ride. Plus another brilliant Alan Silvestri score!

I just can't figure out why they changed so much between the book and movie. Honestly, I wish it was just a movie. Novel-Wade is just 100% unbelievable and annoying. It's almost like it was two different interpretations of one original idea.

Wow was the spiced “ham” Musubi at Bengal BBQ atrocious. A cold brick with dried out spam. To be fair the night I tried I tried Bengal was having a really off night. I also found if strange that they weren’t showcasing the menu item almost as if they didn’t want people ordering that night because they weren’t ready. There was no mention of it on the menu.

The book is extremely poorly written. Excellent story idea, and the world is fun to think about, but I agree, the quality of the writing is poor.

Which is why I'm assuming they changed everything in the film.

The Good Reads reviews give it an average of 4.29 out of 5 with over 636000 ratings. The story itself was good. It was nothing fancy or groundbreaking but entertaining all the same, even though it had some pretty predictable moments. The author's obsession with (often-times obscure) 80s pop culture and video games sometimes got a little to heavy for my taste and our protagonists mastery of so much of it at such a young age didn't always seem feasible. Still it was fun to read.
