The Miscellaneous Thought Thread

When you think about it, the brief period from April 1984 (the full completion of New Fantasyland marked by the re-opening of Alice) through September 1985 (the closure of Inner Space) was basically a small golden age for Disneyland. Those were the final days before IP theming barged in with Captain EO and Star Tours, and the park featured a top-notch line-up of attractions in addition to a gorgeously remodeled Fantasyland.

Even the replacement attractions at the time, such as America Sings and Big Thunder, were wholly original experiences instead of ham-fisted IP content. And of course, you have the "secondary" elements such as the park not being flooded with unnavigable crowds at all times and not costing ungodly amounts of money, and Disney not being nearly the unthinking corporate monster it is today.

I am aware of the stupid PeopleMover Tron tunnel, by the way, but that was only one small part of a single attraction, and at least Tron is actually a Disney property. Really, it wasn't too different from something like the 20,000 Leagues exhibit from the fifties.

Every attraction in my personalized, ideal version of Disneyland:

This is classic Disneyland at its theoretical peak; basically the park circa 1972 but with the additions of Space Mountain, New Fantasyland, and several other things. I think there's a thread somewhere on this forum for posting exactly this kind of thing, although I can't be bothered to find it at the moment.

Premier Access signage at DLP we can probably look forward to at DL. Tacky. In America they would be better served calling it something else and making some adjustments to the size and location of these signs. What happened to Disney parks in the last few years? Just miss after miss after miss.

I doubt if the system makes it over here (hopefully not), it'll be called Premier Access. The name was certainly chosen as both Premier and Access because the French translation of both those words are spelled very similarly, therefore they don't need to print two names for it on a sign or have a name that a person who can only speak either English or French will understand. It's the same reason why Haunted Mansion was changed to Phantom Manor for DLP.

It's the name they've been using for Disney Plus movie purchases here in the states, so I think it's on brand if they used it in the parks here.

I'm not sure if anyone else here is aware, but there's a YouTube channel called "Patrick's Movie Corner" which hosts a bunch of grainy VHS rips of classic Disney films, and they've all been up for like two years now. It's kind of a miracle that the channel is even allowed to exist, but I guess those uploads are just too low-quality for the mighty algorithm to recognize as copyrighted Disney content.

Anyway, I kind of forgot about this until now, but roughly 75% of the comments on every single one of those uploads appear to have been written by deranged maniacs and schizophrenia patients. A lot of them are insane, incomprehensible dribble, such as scripted, out-of-context conversations between weird characters who have nothing to do with the film. Plenty of other comments are extremely blunt, braindead observations about the bit of the movie in the video, or some random quote from it, written in a sort of catatonic, expressionless way. Lots of random, unlabeled timestamps as well.

It's seriously one of the strangest things I've ever witnessed on YouTube. Who even are these lunatics, and why are these types of comments apparently endemic to this one specific channel? Seeing a normal comment on Patrick's Movie Corner is like seeing a janitor in a psychiatric ward. Absolute insanity, all around.

This is how I feel in the comment section on Reddit.

Sounds awful. Why encourage it by giving it views? There are so many Youtube Channels that are actually intelligent, informative and worthwhile.

Also: Don’t ever read the comments on YouTube. Ever. Like... .... ever.

Ever.

Coming soon to a park near you
I think the stupidest thing about this is that you still get a time slot. Imagine paying 10 bucks per person for a ride and you have to show up during a certain window of time.

Someone paying a premium shouldnt have to plan out their day. The whole benefit of VIP Line Passes at any themepark is that you want to get a lot done in a small amount of time without having to worry about anything.

This gives them the option to add additional premiums likes Six Flags does with Flash Pass. Pay one price gets you a time slot later in the day. Pay a bit more and you get an earlier slot. Pay even more and you get near instant access.
