I’d pay full admission price just to see the original, unedited version of RDCT again.

Randomly thinking about that firework show at the moment. It’s been nearly 20 years since Disneyland’s 50th and I’m shook.

I'm the same, but with the original Fantasmic!. Or if Indiana Jones had every effect working with all of the dialogue variations back in place, I'd pay full admission.

It's interesting how much RDCT and F! have influenced more modern Disney fireworks shows or night time productions, yet none have come close to topping those two.

I wanted to love the current Fantasmic! show, but I don’t. I don’t hate it either, I think it’s fine. But it was certainly better before.

I agree. Nothing since then has come close. And it’s been years and years.

Something I can’t figure out is why the DLP version of POTC decided to use the supposedly inferior DL version of the second show building. Apparently Mark Davis revised and improved the entire layout and staging of the Ship/Village sequence for MK. You can differentiate between the two styles just by their floorplans. Original is angular and shaped sort of like a piano, while the remix only has right corners.

Consequently, when Pirates was replicated at TDL, even though the ride starts off just like the DL original, the second showbuilding is a copy of the “superior” MK layout. Yet, for some reason imagineers replicated the DL version of the second showbuilding at DLP.

My best guess it was that west coast arrogance that we hear is popular among imagineers. The design team just went on autopilot and assumed everything about the DL Pirates is superior to the MK version. 🤷
It’s because the DL original is, to most, “Superior.” Marc Davis was a genius, but sometimes when an artist revisits a masterpiece and tries to improve it with streamlining and restaging, a lot of the original’s charm and atmosphere are lost. Sometimes quirkiness is better than right angles.
(edit)
Wait a sec— The Paris version is very different in many ways from the previous 3. Are you saying Paris used the DL show building for a completely different set of scenes?

I’d have to disagree with him there.

What’s the climax at MK? The jail cell?
Originally the treasure room, before they removed most of the stuff in there and added Jack Sparrow.

I doubt he considered the speed ramp as part of the ride experience, ergo it's not really anticlimactic as you're not expecting another drop or show scene after that.
I guess it’s impossible for a designer like Davis to experience a ride from a guest’s POV. The atmosphere, the sounds, the smooth transition back to the present... that trip up the waterfall is a perfect way to end POC.
