Does anyone else prefer Looney Tunes over the Silly Symphony and Mickey shorts?
Oh, heck yeah! But only after the creation of Daffy and Bugs. The earliest Warner shorts can’t hold a candle to early Mickey, but once the Warner directors found their “stars” (and got Mel Blanc on board) they created comedy gold that has aged incredibly well.

Agreed, though Looney Tunes does have lower lows than Disney ever got (the Buddy series and post-'63 shorts come to mind).

I agree that the Looney Tunes shorts haven't always and consistently been great. Also, if I had to pick which contemporary shorts to watch now, it would absolutely be the Mickey ones (despite disliking the new character designs) because the humor in the current Looney Tunes shorts is nowhere near the same as it once was. But the humor in the older shorts is so clever and, yes, gold. I could never get tired of watching them and overall, I'm still picking Looney Tunes over Disney.

I do have a special fondness of the Goofy How-To shorts though.

Let it be known that Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is such an iconic masterpiece that it's literally the first thing in Disneyland to appear as a label on Google Earth, at a whopping elevation of 145 feet.

Absolutely, but I have to say that I watched all of the classic shorts on D+, the vast majority of which I had never seen before, and was surprised how much I enjoyed them. Genuinely one of the highlights of D+ for me.

Honestly, most of the Silly Symphonies I've found to be underwhelming and a bit boring. Groundbreaking from a technical level for their time period, but most of them are little else.

But nothing touches the Golden Age of the Looney Tunes. When they were on, they were *perfect.*

I do wonder if HBO Max should have segmented the really old Looney Tunes shorts from the rest of them. The shorts from approx. 1930-35 don't have much in common with what came after and don't hold up particularly well. I'm glad they're there, but I worry someone will start watching them, assume that the rest of the shorts are like that, and give up.

It’s interesting, I don’t find the early Silly Symphony shorts to be all that entertaining either, but I’d rather watch those than the early Looney Tunes shorts. It’s when they both hit their peak when I then prefer Looney Tunes. And now I have no interest in watching either in their modern and contemporary forms, especially Looney Tunes lol.

I wonder if the company ever plans on issuing the short films on home video. The last time they did was the "treasures" dvd sets that are out of print.

They stopped releasing the "Walt Disney Signature Collection" 4k/blu rays of the vault titles when Disney Plus came out, so my guess is no.

It looks like Disney is moving away from collectable home video releases entirely.

NONE of their films have received a collectible release since Atlantis the Lost Empire. Not even Frozen. I feel like the end of the Treasures line allows them to bury material that has aged poorly. Even then, D+ has only, like 100 shorts.

Not exactly the same but there are companies putting out collectible versions of Disney movies. If it’s behind the scenes features you’re looking for, you might be disappointed. If it’s something collectible, you’ll be very happy...and poor. These sets are usually limited to under a thousand like this one.
