Definitive? It's not even the special edition. Throw that out.
I can go even further into the Star Wars void...how about this Star Wars and Story of Star Wars Reel to Reel collection? I can confirm I don't have a reel to reel player though. I have no idea what it's even worth, nada on fleabay

You would buy laserdiscs and your favorite music (in the giant CD box) at your local Wherehouse music store. It looked like this:

I remember when my local Wherehouse switched from vinyl to the giant CD boxes. It was weird. I also remember my dad complaining that everyone stopped carrying replacement needles for the record player.

tl; dr? I'm old.
I got a couple at Wherehouse but directly across the street was a Tower Records that had a slightly better selection.

Talking about Laserdiscs, The Wherehouse, and Tower Records sure brings back some nostalgia. My friend worked at The Wherehouse when I was a teen. My first job was at the only west coast Media Play here at the Great Mall in Milpitas when it first opened up in 1994. Media Play was owned by Musicland Corp. who also owned Suncoast Video and Sam Goody.

We sold laserdiscs there. The laserdisc claim to fame is Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Supposedly the animators put in a few frames of Jessica Rabbit's yoohoo which at the time was viewable on the laserdisc because you could move frame by frame without any jitter, unlike VHS (unless you had a really expensive player). I believe there were a couple of other things in that movie that you can only find on laserdisc. Pretty sure Disney cleaned them up when DVD's came out.

In Hollywood? Do they still sell them? I got a collection of 120 movies and a player about 5 years ago for $40. 2 months ago I got a set or 300 movies and another player for $70. Have to list all the ones I don't want (about 60% of them) on ebay or get rid of them as they are taking up a lot of space.
Yep! They’re upstairs tucked away in the movie section. At least, as of January this year.

I have mine on a 120" projector and zoom in the letterboxed ones and it still looks great!

That being said, I do hear a lot about people needing upscalers and comb filters to make analog media look nice on their displays.

After reading about the issues people face online, I did pick up a DVD recorder that upscales to 1080p, but after using it for some time I realized the films actually looked better without it. It all depends on your device's digital to analog conversion process and whether you need to introduce another device in the signal chain.

The Star Wars Definitive set is awesome. I've been watching the CBS Widescreen Edition LDs since I got them 5 years ago. However, I just bought the definitive set and it looks and sounds so much better.

I know it has DNR heavily applied, but I still find the picture to be a huge improvement. Even the 2006 DVDs that are sourced from the same master are dirtier and darker than the Definitive Collection (like they let the master rot outside in the sand).
Someone was kind enough to burn the definitive collection from LD to DVD for me many years ago...including bonus features.

Wow! Custom cases too with nice printing.
Yeah, pretty cool. I popped them into the computer this AM and they don't look that great. Will have to try them on the Bluray player and see how they look. Honestly, I probably don't have much reason to go back to them anymore given I have far too many versions of the OT at this point.

Has anybody been watching the DuckTales reboot lately? The most recent episode Let's Get Dangerous" just got uploaded to the official Disney XD Youtube Channel today. The episode is also on DisneyNow where it can be watched for free. It appears this episode might be a Backdoor Pilot for something Disney Afternoon related.

The Ducktales reboot has bowled me over with its cleverness and ingenius (but true to the spirit) reimaginings of the characters. The way the writers managed to deconstruct and then resurrect Darkwing Duck in a believable way that incorporates him into Duckberg was brilliant, so I’m looking forward to seeing this new episode.

The new Ducktales is a great example of the *right* way to subvert fan expectations and end up with something smart, true-to-character, and very, very entertaining. And Mark Beaks is the funniest, most despicable villain ever to be created at Disney.

Wow, this is way more fun than talking about California politics. 😃

Can't wait to see Kit and Molly's appearance this Season. I'm very curious to see how they will handle Molly since she's all grown up alongside Kit (as revealed in the Season 3 Poster). Especially after seeing how they handled Gosayln and Webby.

I'm no Roger Rabbit expert, but if I recall correctly, the baby flips someone off and it was taken out of other video releases.

What were the most popular titles besides Roger Rabbit on the format at your store?

Snopes talks about the alleged scenes:
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/who-stripped-jessica-rabbit/

It's been 25 years since I had that job. I honestly couldn't remember what was popular. We had an entire two-sided isle dedicated to laserdiscs, so I'm sure we carried everything that was out at the time. But to be honest, I don't recall selling a lot of them (I was a lead cashier at the time).

Speaking of that, since the other lead cashier didn't want to work on Sunday nights I always had to close. There was this guy that came in every week (and always right at closing ) and would purchase like 7-10 classic movies on VHS. I guess he was a collector. He would always special order ones that we didn't have on our shelves. I sometimes think about that and wonder if he's old a gray still watching his outdated VHS tapes on an outdated VCR somewhere. I mean, all physical media formats will one day be outdated, but this dude spent literally thousands of dollars on these movies. Maybe he started his collection over with DVD, then again with Blu-ray.....or is a premium subscriber to the TCM channel or something lol.
