So I finally used MaxPass last weekend on Veterans Day. It was really glitchy and it was down until about 12 noon. I purchased it around 10am and got an email confirmation but it wasn’t actually working until noon. They really have to get that Wi-FI working asap. My battery died at like 3pm because of how many times I tried refreshing my phone to see if the app was up.

And why AFTER you have already purchased and you want you try to select a FP it takes you right back to that same screen making it look like they want you to purchase it again?

Anyway MaxPass is super convenient but it just requires too much burying your head in your phone and takes you out of the moment. Especially at night when your fast passes are starting to pile up and you have to start making decisions like which ones you ll be able to redeem and still fit in dinner, if you ll be able to let your friends see the fireworks and which fast pass should you select next since your eligible again. Just too much prioritizing and thinking at a Theme park for my taste. I guess it was A combo of the app being glitchy, the fact that it was a busy day and the pressure of trying to let your guests from out of town see as much as possible with a one day park hopper.

When I used it in July it worked very well for me. Very easy and quick to get FPs (although I'm a techie so maybe I understand it better than most). I never experienced the issue of going to the same screen like you did, so possible it was a glitch for you. And my battery lasted all day with moderate use, I was using an iPhone 7 Plus on Verizon. Battery life is really based on usage, network, and phone (everyone forgets this last one).

Possible you just got it on a bad day, which are hopefully few and far between. I'll try it again when I go next month.

The app is easy to use... when it was working. Perhaps it taking me to the screen to purchase again was part of the glitchiness.

I have an iPhone 7 with ATT (Disneyland’s carrier). The battery was drained from refreshing my phone a million times because of the app not working. I’m guessing too many people tried to purchase at th same time on a busy Vererans day and it went down. Anyway the fact they are selling MaxPass but are not providing reliable WIFI to guests is baffling.

I just think they are offering WiFi in select areas for now to prevent the flood gates of people just logging on. I have a feeling they will introduce more WiFi access points as MaxPass grows larger. The locations right now appear to be tied to areas with attractions that offer MaxPass FP, for example in TL with both Star Tours and Space Mountain.

I had no issues connecting to the Disney WiFi when I was in the areas it was offered.

I was a huge fan of the original pre-1984 weird, nightmarish version of the Alice in Wonderland dark ride, and I felt offended when it got downgraded from a C Ticket to a B.

It kind of annoys me that they have a "population" tally. It's really tacky and makes me think of the McDonald's tally of people served. It's also not in any way accurate.
Mickey wouldn't lie. Oh, wait, nevermind-- He lies all the time. Especially to Minnie.

Well if this is the case it doesn’t really make sense. The whole point of MaxPass is the convenience that comes from being able to book anywhere. I guess if 4G is working it’s not an issue but if one is relying on WiFi and they need to get to the nearest E ticket to book that’s kind of annoying.

Well actually think of it a different way. Its giving you the ability to book a new FP for another attraction while in line after you redeem your previous one. So for example the ability to book HM while in FP line for SM.

One of my main issues with the MaxPass is that you have to spend too much much time with your face buried in your phone planning and prioritizing. I guess this isn’t really a MaxPass issue but a FastPass issue really. However, the issue becomes more apparent because with MaxPass you end up with more fastpasses/ possibilities which = more decisions and planning. The issue gets compounded on a busy day which ironically is when you need MaxPass the most. On a busy day you have less time to get a FP for the poplular rides so for the first few hours any planning gets thrown out the window in an effort to grab GOTG/ Space/ RSR FPs before they run out. As a result, at the end of a busy day you may have four fast passes accumulated over a 2 hour span that would require some major zig zagging across the parks. Which is the same time where dinner / nighttime entertainment is happening.

I guess what it comes down to is that it’s stressful trying to do too much in too little time. Trying to make sure your friends get on all the major attractions with 1 day park hoppers on a busy day is rough. With that said, Max is very convenient but I feel takes away too much from any spontaneity in a visit which in my opinion is where the real magic is. Not an E ticket check list. Unfortunately MaxPass is still just a bandaid on the bigger issue which is the crowds.

I don't know what the currently tally states, but last I looked at it was 650M. And I think they update when they hit the next 25-50M.

If you believe the attendance numbers by year published by TEA they are sitting at ~690M as of the end of 2016. So they probably will change it when they hit 700M, unless they already have.

So yeah its probably pretty accurate to the nearest 25-50M.

As you kind of indicated this is not an issue exclusive to MaxPass but really with FP as a whole. For people who don't want to plan or want spontaneity, FP is not going to be for you. This was true before MaxPass and its true after MaxPass.

True but I feel MaxPass makes the issue worse as your face is constantly buried in the phone to see what new FPs are are available as you try to to chart out your day or select your next FP. It’s the stress of trying to maximize your day as well as plan out a day where you’re not zig zagging across the park like crazy. And those two objectives really fight against each other. For me with paper FPs, aside from trying to get an FP for GOTG/ TOT or Space/ Splash, the rest of the day was spontaneous and I didn’t really make it a point to go out of my way for anything else.

Anyway if do purchase MaxPass again I’m going to shift my mentality from “FP relay race” to just a more convenient way to spend the day at the park, get the hot FPs like Space/ GOTG and get a couple more fast passes without having to walk over like maybe IASW holiday and Star Tours with the new scenes. I think if you go into the day thinking I’m going to use MaxPass on 3-4 attractions and keep the rest of the day spontaneous you can have the best of both worlds. A lot easier to do when your an AP and don’t have the pressure of seeing everything.

Just like with everything in life, it all depends on how you use it. If the intent and goal is to get in every attraction in a short period of time, it'll help make that happen. If you just want to pick up a couple FPs for the popular attractions only but keep the rest spontaneous, it can help with that too. You get what you put into it. If you stress and constantly try to get a FP, then yeah you'll be buried in your phone. If you say hey I just got done with ABC I wonder if there are any FPs available near me, then you just check once in awhile.

This is how I did it in July. Its not a race across the park. Its just seeing what I could get in the lands we were in. If none were available, were there any in the next land we wanted to hit. Like while waiting for Indy, I got a FP for Splash for an hour later which is where we were heading. I wasn't constantly checking, I only checked based on where we were heading next. Or in one case, it helped determine where we headed next.

Think of MaxPass as a tool. You use that tool based on your needs and wants.

Agreed. I’m sure it also helps using it on a day that isn’t insanely crowded.
