I also think they are harkening back to the Iwerks designs for another reason, come 2024 Steamboat Willie and that version of Mickey is due to enter the public domain, currently using a version that is similar is going to strengthen their case to potentially keep that copyright as it is so associated with the company (I think they will win Mickey and the fab 5 but will lose the rights to the lesser known characters including Snow White when that copyright is up.)

That is an astute point.

For real! I’ve gotten a lot more picky over the past seven or so years and now I rarely buy anything from the parks.
I used to make many impulsive purchases while at Disney (pins, collector items, etc.), nowadays I'm cautious and more aware of the value of my buck and if I choose to spend some money, I'd pick experiences or a nice meal.

It’s funny people are making the Iwerks comparisons because I absolutely love the Iwerk’s Mickey. In fact, I make a special point to always visit the Main St. theatre on my way out to watch the cartoons.

The only difference between those and the new cartoons is that the Iwerks cartoons don’t look like utter garbage.

But... you know... that’s just my opinion.

Yes
Bootleg Mickey is stylistically designed to be that way. They can’t undo it but they can diminish the effects of it. They may have gone too far.

Of the three Splash Mountains, only Florida has the vultures wearing top hats. Why is that? They look better with the hats.

Ok here he just looks homeless
Yeah this doesn’t look good either. The only character design I don’t dislike is Donald. But even that is an inferior design to the classic animation.
Well to be fair the original look of Goofy wasn't some aristocrat, he looked rather downtrodden as well:

Not saying you have to like it or the original version, as I know a lot here like the 40s-50s version of the characters. But as I said previously this current iteration of the characters is an homage to the Iwerks versions. Which as some have theorized could be to keep the characters from losing their copyright status.
