You really think with all the success the company has had in recent years they're gonna pull a 180 with an outsider, or promote someone who knows the inner workings already?
If it was gonna happen with an insider one would think it would have happened already. Its the reason your predecessor parted ways with the company, because the board wanted to "broaden the scope of its succession plan" for Bob's successor. This is corporate code for looking outside the company.

What is that assumption based on?

Based on that fact that Bob's contract has been extended several times, and the previous heir apparent resigned because the board again wanted to "broaden the scope of its succession plan".

Sorry even if they were to look inside, there is no guarantee its you Bob. In fact I would say Alan Horn or even Christine McCarthy have a better shot.

Bob has been extended so he could oversee things like the Fox merger. Not because they couldn't find anyone to replace him yet.

Oh well. We know nothing.

His contract was extended before they even considered buying Fox (again to "broaden the scope of its succession plan", there is a reason why I keep quoting it because its a public statement), it was extended again after the Fox acquisition.

Again its the reason Staggs resigned. Learn your own companies history....

“I’m expecting my contract to expire at the end of 2021,” Iger said Thursday during Disney’s investor day presentations. “And I was going to say ‘and this time I mean it,’ but I’ve said it before. I’ve been CEO since October of 2005 and as I’ve said many times, there’s a time for everything and 2021 will be the time for me to finally step down.”

Until the board decides to extend it again.
