And now to add some positivity to this thread. I recently checked out the animated short "The Brave Locomotive" which just got uploaded to Youtube today. It's produced and directed by Andrew Chesworth (who worked on Sergio Pablos' "Klaus" animated film) and been in the works since 2008. It's inspired by the 1950 Disney Animated Short "The Brave Engineer" from 1950.

This alongside Klaus is why I love and dearly miss 2D Animation. Highly recommend checking this out sometime because you can tell this took years to complete.

Reminds me of Little Toot from Melody Time.

You had me at “Klaus”! Checking it out now.
(Edit)
Thank you for posting about this: That was absolutely wonderful! It captured the feel of the classic Disney tall tale shorts perfectly while successfully revving it all up a notch. That was a genuine tug on the heartstrings! And beautifully done from start to finish.

(And wow, it sure snuck in one very dark gag; I don’t even want to think about the fate of that nasty guy with the whip) 😄

I've been seeing reports from a few places that Disney has decided to shutter the Beasts Library in California Adventure on Dec. 10th. The space will apparently now be used for their Imagination Campus classes or whatever.

I have to hand it to 'em, they are really dedicated to destroying what little good remained at DCA.

That's a shame, I remember it being a highlight of opening week DCA, as was the voice over grotto. More than anything with a meet and greet, Turtle Talk, and drawing class left it feels like the Animation Building's days are numbered.

It still has all of its main attractions. What makes you feel like it’s day are numbered?

It's true that they are, but I'm not sure that their combined value will be enough to secure the future of such a large space. More than any of those, I'd be really sorry to see the lobby close.

Well that’s true but a different issue. Personally, I wouldn’t take losing the Beast’s Library as sign that its days are numbered. Now if they shuttered the animation class or Turtle Talk then I’d agree.

It’s kind of like Storybookland over at DL. You fear because of how much real estate it takes up that one day they might make the stupid decision of getting rid of it as much of its value doesn’t show up on the “stat sheet.” I take “days are numbered” to mean a decision has been made and/ or it’s on the short term chopping block.

I’d like for the animation building to survive a Hollywoodland retheme and be lumped into BVS.

I suppose it probably won't go away soon. However, I do have the feeling that what's there remains only because they have an idea of how valuable the real estate is and are waiting to decide something significant to do with it. For example, I imagine there are internal discussions about the future of the entire Hollywood area. The building also appears to back into Avenger's Campus, so a new entrance to the facility could serve as a land expansion for that. I'm not sure the legacy notion, seen at Storybook Land, really covers anything at DCA as far as they're concerned. As for the building's current offerings, the guest capacity of its attractions compared to the size of the building itself surely makes it expendable.

Agree on that. They don’t consider anything sacred at DCA. Personally I think Grizzly Peak should be untouchable though.

Yeah, I suppose I wouldn’t be surprised if the Animation Building was gone in 5-10 years for something Marvel related. Id like for it to survive a Hollywoodland retheme. It would work as part of BVS. Would actually make more sense for a Disney animation building to be in Burbank and not Hollywood. Besides I don’t think the building is all that big right? What would we get there? Something on the level of Webslingers if we’re lucky? The park doesn’t have a lot of classic Disney IP so that’s another reason I’d like for it to stick around. I’m like 99% sure I won’t enjoy what replaces it as much as the video loop in the Animation Lobby.

Finally made time to start on the Walt’s Camera Lego set… and the first thing I see among the pile of pieces spilling out onto my table (besides Lego Walt) are three transparent panels which will form the iconic Old Mill scene once mounted in the Lego version of the Multiplane Camera.

My respect for the creators at Lego was already sky high, and now I wish they were in charge of Disney Parks.

I don’t consider myself a Lego fan by any means…but this, this right here is just beyond cool for a Walt fan.
The fact they actually thought of making ‘cels’ for the various scenic elements for the tiny ‘Multiplane Camera’ takes this to an another level.
Bravo, Lego.

Disney Jollywood Nights at DHS is a complete joke!

What is/was that? I saw it mentioned over on the WDW side, but I didn't take the time to find out what it was.

Is it an after-hours party? A promotional event? Their version of Date Nite at Disneyland? What is it exactly?

It's a new Christmas Event held at DHS during the Christmas Season (similar to MVMCP) during the evening but its actual entertainment offerings are very lackluster for a ticketed holiday event. It's gained infamy over the WDW side for the introduction of a new Walt Disney World Exclusive Character (Ollie the Gingerbread Man) who only appears on signs.

Disney even created a survey dedicated to Ollie after the opening night to guests that attended.

Also the Character Variety is also a major letdown since it only contains The Sensational 6, Phineas and Ferb, and Powerline Max. Instead of rare or unique Disney Characters like Oogie Boogie Bash at DCA and the overseas Disney Parks.

If you are really curious, here's the main thread dedicated to Jollywood Nights (the link contains opening night reports)

DHS's Christmas Offerings and entertainment was free to guests all day and weren't locked behind a paywall prior to this year. The only somewhat decent offering is The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along Show (mainly for the Jack Skellington Puppet and Oogie Boogie).

Sea World Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa has better Christmas Offerings then Jollywood Nights and MVMCP at MK. Since both parks has Christmas Entertainment that's actually available to guests that ain't locked behind ticketed event. Bonus Points for both parks having a section dedicated to Rankin/Bass Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer which guests can meet the characters.

Sea World Orlando's Twitter even poked fun at Jollywood Nights not long after its opening night.

Heck, Dollywood has better Christmas Offerings than MVMCP done these past couple of years since they also Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and friends and better Christmas Entertainment and shows. I still love this video recorded from an indoor section at Dollywood showing Clarice (Rudolph's sweetheart) having an intimate moment with an infant. Especially since you can hear Clarice's song "There's Always Tommorow" echoing in the background. It's super adorable to watch! 🥰

Holy holiday schnitzel. They've complete lost it at WDW. These are not good hosts, nor good showmen.

If you have to send out a survey about a plywood cutout on a lawn, you have just proven that you have no idea what you are doing, why you are doing it, or what your customers think you should do. You've lost it. And WDW has seriously lost it.

These are people that should just be selling toothpaste or tires or commercial freezers. Because they clearly aren't showmen.

Aside from that survey self-own embarrassment, that Jollywood Nights thing looked really boring and dumb.

I forgot to mention the best part about the first night for Jollywood Nights. A large majority of attendees including vloggers and Disney Mommy Vloggers were left feeling very underwhelmed. You know this wasn't planned out properly when Disney Vloggers and Disney Moms weren't impressed.

Patchy the Pirate perfectly summed up a majority of WDW fans thoughts on execution for Jollywood Nights.

Here's a Presentation from the creative team for Jollywood Nights.
