the MANY problems with Genie+ and paid FastPass (or whatever they are calling it)

I wouldn't spend too much time and energy gaming this out. When TRON opens, the Magic Kingdom's operating model is going to change drastically.
I hope they tweak Genie+ to allow you to book the night before instead of 7am as well as allow you to choose your return time (maybe limit to resort guests as a perk that doesn't take $ out of their pocket) instead of getting the next available (so i dont have to rope drop)

I still don't get where people are coming up with this theory that "next available" means you have to rope drop. It doesn't make any sense. One has nothing to do with the other.

If you want to sleep until 10:00, check the app when you wake up at 10:00 and book "next available" then.

Yes, that is my expectation, along with 8am or even 7am openings most days for a long period of time.

There is no "penalty of having to rope drop." Rope dropping gets you shorter wait times, period. This is true under standby-only, FASTPASS, FastPass+, MaxPass, or Genie+. People who get to the parks early wait less. That's just a fact. It's not a unique feature of Genie.
It is a penalty with Genie+ because you have to take "first available" return times and if you get one and dont use it at opening then you have to wait the 90-120 mins and will be that far behind

What are you talking about?

If you're not going to rope drop, don't book your first Genie at 7am.

This is one of the biggest things that Universal's system eliminates -- you could show up at 2 PM and get the same experience as someone who shows up at 9 AM (solely with regards to wait times, that is). It's also one of several reasons it makes no sense when people compare Genie+ to it.

The Universal system is tremendously good for guests, and that's why it costs so much money. Charging less would eliminate the benefits. Genie+ is not intended to offer the same experience so of course the pricing is different.

Give it couple of months in true Disney fashion they will raise it to 30 bucks and higher
It may also become seasonal, like everything else. They'll be trying to maximize income from Genie+ while also keeping their use small enough so the standby line feels OK to most people. Even if people boycott now or refuse to buy Genie+ initially, people will begin trickling into it over time, and the more it gets used the high the price will go (my speculation).

correct.......then you are behind on your day as some availability will be taken up

Let me explain it this way.........If i could book first ride at 8pm the night before and I got Space Mountain return time noon, then your second ride could be booked at park opening and i got Thunder for return time at 1pm, then id have 2 of the rides i wanted booked for as soon as i arrive without waking up at 7am and without getting there for park opening

I cannot do that as Genie+ is currently constituted because
1) i have to wake up at 7am
2) I have to take next available
3) id have to wait 120 mins or until i ride to book second ride

Dude, you genuinely don't seem to understand how Genie+ works.

Space Mountain is paid, so set that aside.

If you want Noon Big Thunder, just wait until the "Next Available" slot for Big Thunder is at Noon, and book it then. It won't be at 7am, and you won't have to get to the park for opening.

75% of guests don’t rope drop? In what made-up land are we pulling random numbers from today?

And someone already knows exactly how Genie/Genie+ will work? Wow, that’s some next-level clairvoyance. Please let us know what tomorrow’s winning Powerball numbers will be as well! We can all split the winnings.

Ha.......they got you right where they want you.......

I dont agree but to each his ow
Do you expect it to be just like ROTR, Boarding Groups and then paid FP (or whatever they are calling it)?

I think it will be Tron and SDMT

And Genie+ will be effective here (except i hate the cost, the 7am start time and the penalty of having to rope drop)
I'll be amazed if they don't make Tron a virtual queue. It'll be the rush between getting a boarding group for ROTR, Ratt and Tron every morning.

LOL..........Dude, you obviously dont understand Genie+

First I was assuming once Tron opened

Second, if i wait until the next available slot for Thunder at noon since im not going into the park until then (that could be at 11am), then my "clock" (the 120 mins i have to wait) for my second ride isnt until 120 minutes after 11am, or 1pm............Now i cant book my second ride until i either ride Thunder at noon or wait until 1pm and i have only been on 1 ride since i arrived and availability for my second ride might not be until 5pm, thus making me wait another 120 minutes.....

Are you sure you know how Genie+ works?

How many guests rope drop at a single park each day based on the total for the day? MK averages 60k guests per day

how many of those 60k are there for the open?

I think about 12k (so rounding up to 25% would be 15k) are there for the open and the remaining 48k enter at different time's throughout the day

you disagree?

I have no idea what number of guests rope drop, but it has to be a relatively small percentage overall. If 25k people were rope dropping every day, there would be no benefit unless you were one of the first few through the gates. The people who were in the middle or end of the line would end up with hour+ long waits for all the best attractions even at rope drop.

Agree......my guess is its about 20%-25% of the total guests that enter the park daily

SO Genie+ is penalizing 75%- 80% of the daily guests because they dont rope drop and cannot pick return times (have to take first available)

So I would tweak it by starting by allowing resort guests only to pick return times and then have resort guests only pick their first ride at 8pm the previous night instead of 7am day of and then if thats working add non resort guests

The window isn't going to be marching forward as fast as you seem to think it will. If you go to book something at 1pm, you're not going to see next availability at 5pm.
