The Mandalorian

But now that I’ve said all that...

I love the Mandalorian. I’m super sick of talking about the new trilogy (which is why I disengaged from that discussion in January 2018).

This show is amazing so far. The critique about the score faded in episode two, starting to become more memorable.

Fair enough, but the true Rogue one criticism is the characters are the bigger problem then the tone or story beats. The criticism of the trilogy is more to do with story beats and moments being unearned. The characters are interesting, just where they take them is what people have an issue with.

I think the critical side of the fan base strongly over-exaggerates nearly every little flaw, some of which aren’t really fair critiques, in this case.

Rey is a memorable character, Jyn is not.

That doesn’t mean people have to like Rey and believe me we’ve heard very clearly people don’t. But not liking her doesn’t mean she’s not charismatic. Jyn was anti charisma.
I thought the jyn character was the main problem too...daddy issues then leading to her telling a group of hardliners that that had set up pretty well what to do after a 2 minute speech?

Bad sell there.

But there is NOTHING to the sequel characters at all. Really bland copies of the OT characters using different demographics just to point of use different demographics.
I know you’re a big fan of Rogue One and I feel like I actually argued this with you pre-Last Jedi!

I’m not criticizing the movie or the side cast. Just Jyn and to a lesser extent Cassian. That was the only movie that I ever read the prequel novel for beforehand, so perhaps that colors my disappointment with Jyn in particular. But long form story telling in a novel lets things be built out more and Jyn’s character didn’t really align to the trajectory the novel set out.

It just shocks me to hear the Rogue One cast (which lets be frank needs to start with the leads) were so much better than the new sequels. Frankly I think that opinion has more to do with every other aspect of the movie people prefer (the story, the tone, the supporting cast). No kid is buying Jyn merch after that movie.

Wait...What about “till the last Jedi”? The mains did NOTHINg at all in it...and the useless dern and usual suspects click character??

They literally (almost) carried a corpse through and didn’t edit the movie...and now the corpse is in the sequel with more airtime than the main character of the entire story...

...I feel like Disney is punking the world at this point

I wasn’t so keen on the score trying to obviously go “the good; the bad and the ugly” in the first episode...

But I find it sticking in my head...which means it’s working and is appropriate for Star Wars

I like it so far. I feel the Mandalorian is a anti hero like dead pool, and it seems to me the Mandalorian is starting to have protective feelings for baby yoda.

I wonder if Disney will create baby yoda merch?
I can't imagine them not although I am surprised it was not available the day after Disney + went gold.

I think it was less than 12 hours before the t-shirt sites had Baby Yoda shirts up.

I like that. But what about Yolittle?
When he's an adult, he's stuck with it. He might end up with a Mandolorian name, considering he's nameless and a foundling. He doesn't even have a note pinned to his outfit with any information.

He reminds me of that alien baby from the Warner Brother cartoon, "Rocket Bye Baby", where the dad in the maternity ward falls asleep and has a dream his son and a baby from Mars got switched. We always called him "Yob", but I think in the cartoon, his name was "Mot".

I really hope he turns out to be more of a hero than an anti-hero. The whole anti-hero thing is so played out at this point.
I think he will. From my amateur analysis of interviews, the first couple episodes... he is starting out as an anti hero and will continue to grow into more of a hero than not. To me, it sure feels like that is how this is being set up.

I think the timeframe of the series is fascinating...

Prior to 2015...one would Assume that the galaxy would be somewhat stable...and would of course face threats or dissension.

The Mandolorian seems to be what is often portrayed in dystopian fiction: “the war is over!!...now what?”

The early indication is that the fall of order and rise of freedom isn’t as easy as the people had hoped. It’s a great concept for a series setting

What is the time frame on this Mandolorian series? If Baby Yoda is 50 as a baby, then this takes place hundreds of years before our Lucas versions of Star Wars?
