#05- Carry-On
[Watched on Netflix]
Carry-On was a shockingly fun thriller following Taron Egerton doing his best Tom Holland impression as he faces off against Patrick Bateman who was shockingly good as this terrorist leader. It's a cheesy holiday action film set in an airport and if that's not your thing I totally get it, but for me this movie was a ton of fun and exactly what I was hoping to get out of it.
#04- That Christmas
[Watched on Netflix]
I did not expect to enjoy That Christmas based purely on the fact Netflix's animation has been really rough recently. That said, I ended up really liking this one. The movie is sweet and emotional with some great character moments and while it does devolve into a pretty common trope of family movies when they need a third act, it's not done poorly at all. While it may not be a Christmas classic, I do think this was a decent enough time.
#03- A Complete Unknown
[Watched in theaters]
The jump between #4 and these top three is a crazy one, these three are all much closer to one another than anything else on the list so do not take this being at 3 as anything less. I'm a pretty big fan of Bob Dylan (though admittedly I do prefer his folk stuff over his rock stuff, I just really like folk music) as well as people like Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, and Woody Guthrie so this movie was pretty much tailor made for me. All of the performances here are award-worthy from Chalamet as Bob Dylan, to Elle Fanning, Edward Norton, Scoot McNairy, and Monica Barbaro. The music here is expectedly great, the emotions are high, and the movie is overall fantastic. Definitely a movie I'd recommend people go see though I can see where if you're not a folk music fan this would be boring.
#02- Flow
[Watched in theaters]
Flow is supremely gorgeous and fascinating with a compelling narrative, tense danger, and high emotions without ever once uttering a single word of dialogue. The animal noises are fantastically done and this movie has some of the best sound, cinematography, and writing of any movie this year. If you haven't already watched The Golden Tikis Nomination Ceremony, don't be surprised when this obscure little movie pops up a lot.
#01- Nosferatu

THE EGG-MAN COMETH AGAIN!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So with that, we close up 2024 and enter 2025. While I didn't hit my 365 last year, this is the year, I feel it! I've got a lot of movies I really want to see but I will save those for a future date. I have a handful of really exciting plans in the works involving film analysis and viewing so stay tuned. Here's to saying farewell to 2024 and to an exciting movie year in 2025!
