Walt Disney World 40th Anniversary

The WDW Magic Kingdom 40th celebration revolves around the theme of Celebrate The Magic, which is a tribute to the biggest resort in Florida, and is Walt Disney’s last major project. The MK hub is magically changed to fit the theme and will look amazing for guests who pass through Main Street and stand in the middle of the land. Special gold ribbons and glittering (Pixie Dust) are added to all of the surrounding trees. A massive 40th banner is suspended above the center of the hub.
Logo:
picture.php

Castle Decorations:
-glittering patterns and gold streamers are added to castle spires and sides
-tip of spires are top with spiraling gold metal that climbs down the side of the spire
-a large gold/white/blue sign saying 40th is on the front of the castle. It lights up at night and changes colors.
-The entire Castle will be covered with an assortment (hidden in the daytime and only visible at night) of LED lights that can create individual patterns such as stars, mouse ears, etc.

Main Street Expo Hall 40th:
The Main Street Expo Hall is redone to match the 40th anniversary celebration. As you enter, you are surrounded by a mural of Roy Disney and Walt Disney working in the Magic Kingdom and planning it out. As you pass through the hall you pass various glass displays holding original rid models, ride plans, and construction pictures. Also added is the Main Street Expo Hall Theater, which shows a history of the Magic Kingdom, with videos of the changing park and how it grew. It will also highlight feature plans for the park. A small character meet’n’greet will be placed next to the exit.

Refurbs:
The Enchanted Tiki Room:
Replacing the Enchanted Tiki Room under New Management is The Enchanted Tiki Room, a throwback to the original but slightly modernized. The exterior is repainted and new signage is added to the front. Also new are a group of Tiki statues in the queue, and a group of tropical plants that match the exterior décor of the Tiki Room. Replacing the outdoor bickering birds is small set (that comes out similar to the current pre-show) full of birds who explain to you the history of the Tiki Room and how Walt introduced Audio Animatronics to the world. The theater itself is newly updated. New benches, Polynesian scenes, and lighting are new. The center of the room is inhabited by a large rocky display which is used for later show effects. The script mostly follows the original but new songs will be introduced (including the original Tiki Room theme).

Signage:
picture.php

Big Thunder Mountain:
The Big Thunder Mountain will receive some major aesthetic changes for the celebration. The queue will be repainted to a darker brown. A map of Frontierland and the mountain as well as old newspaper ads will be adding to the land’s atmosphere and expand the storyline. The inside cave at the beginning of the ride will get new shadow and bat effects. The lift hill will finally be silenced and any bumpiness will be removed with a small track replacement. Animatronics will be added to the flooded town scenes and more animals will be added to the mountains landscape. The geyser effects will also be upgraded to include more steam and water. A few cactuses will also be added to the mountain.

Plectu’s Fantastic Galactic Revue:
Replacing the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor in Tomorrowland, Plectu’s Fantastic Intergalactic Revue resurrects an original concept for the land. Rather than using the video screen technology used in this location, PFGR uses lighting, animatronics, special visual effects, and projections. The show is a combination musical/fantasy/animatronic styled show. The exterior of the building will remain the same, with the exception of the posters and signage. The inside queue will be repainted and all of the Banners used for the Laugh Floor will be switched with ones supporting the current show. The pre-show video explains how the traveling theater owned by Plectu has finally arrived in Tomorrowland. It is being hosted at the Tomorrowland Convention Center, right after Monsters Incorporated moved to another planet to promote their teleportation doors and laugh technology. The inside theater looks mostly the same, with the exception of the doors and laugh machine. The stage is hidden by a massive purple curtain with projection of planets and the show logo. The show itself will consist of several musical numbers and little sketches similar to Kitchen Kabaret. Some animatronics will even interact with the audience, similar to Mr. Potato head in TSMM. The show lasts about 20 minutes.

Signage:
picture.php

Peter Pan:
The classic Peter Pan attraction in Fantasyland gets a refurb leaning more towards the technical aspects then the aesthetics. The boats will be far larger and will be able to seat more people, cutting down wait times by alot. The queue will now also be partially enclosed, allowing for special lighting. Most of the show scenes will simply remain the same with only small additions of lighting and paint.

Parade/Restaurant/ODV:
Walt Disney’s Parade 40th Anniversary Special

Story:
This night-time parade will feature a recurring theme; the history of Walt Disney animation. In part, the parade will be a tribute to Walter Elias Disney himself. One upgrade to the parade is the 40th anniversary overlay. The floats will be redressed with new lighting and the 40th anniversary logo. Each performer who is running next to the float (CM’s included) carries a banner for the 40th celebration. Each parade float represents a portion of animation, going from characters like Steamboat Mickey and moving all the way to Princess Tiana. One unique feature is the fact that parade floats will go from having a white color scheme (to represent the black and white era of the animation) to full fledged color and ending with a marvelous display of lights, sounds, and colors, not to mention a full ensemble of characters.

Opening:
The parade opens with;
Narrator: Here is our show, the magical Parade Fantastic! This tribute to Walt Disney’s animation will take you to the past and all the way to the future of our animation. The Tomorrowland Skyview Diner 40th Anniversary

Using the former TomorrowlandSkyway location is the Skyview Diner. The restaurant is located above the current restrooms and serves as a look-out of Tomorrowland. The location is also partially covered so you can't see the 7 Seas Lagoon or any hotels outside of the Magic Kingdom. The 40th Anniversary overlay will include added banners and an upgraded menu.

Story:
While not explaining much up-front, theming shows that the back story is as follows;
"Famous restaurant entrepeneur Zaphod Glort has come to Tomorrowland and has brought some business with him. He has just recently opened a futuristic, skkyview restaurant that looks out over Downtown Tomorrowland. The restaurant has received lots of endorsement from Tomorrowland and has even received positive reviews from alien critics. As it seems, business is booming and the empty location of the Skyway parking garage is now full of hungry customers from all around the galaxy."

Theme:
The exterior of the open ended restaurant will reflect the rest of the land's look. Neon strips run along the sides of the roof. Massive, metallic legs will support the building while the bathrooms are hidden underneath. Stairs will run up both sides of the restaurant while a small balcony will let guests enjoy their meals outside. Roatating beacon lights are also supported by small spires on some parts of the roof. Elevator access is also featured on the far left side. There is also a small downstairs area/court located next to Space Mountain's entrance. Behind this court is a large waterfall that changes colors and some mettallic umbrellas. The 40th anniversary addition will be neon logos supporting the theme of the celebration.

The interior is fairly unique. Above guests heads is a huge glass window that shows the "sky". The sky effect is actually an LCD screen showing spaceships and large planets floating above everyone's head. This completes the effect of Tomorrowland being a space-port.

Props and Elements:
The props and elements used are the following;
-Map of Tomorrowland (Land itself, Tomorrowland Towers, Progress Community, etc.) located at top of stairs/etrance to restaurant.
-Portrait of Zaphod himself. Features "Founder and Head Alien" underneath picture.
-Tables are designed to mach with rest of land. Mettalic supports.
-Color scheme features purple, red, green, and blue.
-Neon lights are a reddish tint. Inside neon changes colors.
-Waiter/Waitresses outfits are multi-colored. Reflect restaurant's color scheme.
-Critic Reviews (each one boasting a little inside joke such as a review from A.E. Spinlock)
-A news clipping from the Tomorrowland Times

Rocket Tower Plaza Snack Port 40th Anniversary ODV:
The Rocket Tower Plaza Snack Port is going to be located across from the Skyview Diner and Carousel of Progress in the current Stitch Stage location. It is fully outdoors. A special blue lighting scheme will be used to represent the celebration. Banners and logos hang from the metallic ceiling.
Story:
Restaurant mogul Zaphod Glort’s new business is doing great in Tomorrowland. It has already won over the title as best sit down restaurant in the galaxy, beating out the Tomorrowland Noodle Station and Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. One thing he has noticed, however, is that Tomorrowland is a city on the go. Many visitors don’t have time to stop at the Skyview Diner because they need to catch the TTA or board their personal rocket ship and blast off to a different location. To solve this problem, Zaphod has just opened a grab’n’go vending area that specializes in snacks rather than major food. Now robots, aliens, and humans can grab a bite to eat then hop on the Metroliner to get to their next location.
Theming:
Of all the strange architecture in Tomorrowland, this has got to be the most bizarre. The vending port is designed to look like a small scale UFO has just landed in the middle of Tomorrowland. The circular building is lit up by lights in the roof above guest’s heads. A neon ring goes all the way around the structure. The metallic walls are a dark blue that blend with the surrounding. On the very top of the building is a rotating beacon (similar to the ones in the Avenue of the Planets) that tells people it is there. Small screens on the walls show animated aliens and robot landing their ships at the vending port, grabbing their meal in a few seconds, and zooming off to whatever galaxy they are from. The screens also show the TNN (Tomorrowland News Network) news station that broadcasts to every resident in Tomorrowland. The screens also show a brief 1 minute clip of Zaphod himself welcoming everybody to his snack port. 40th anniversary Theming includes banners and logos.
Menu:
-Pretzels
-Popcorn
-Mickey Ear Ice Cream
-Turkey Legs
-Space Cookies
-Space Ice Cream
-40th Anniversary Celebration Surprise (roast beef and bun)

Original Attractions:
The Forbidden Jungle Trek:
The newest addition to Adventureland is an E-Ticket adventure ride that is occupying the space of the former Swiss Family Robinson Tree House. The ride is presented by a high speed race through the jungle in old vehicles that look like they were pulled from the 30’s. An EMV ride system will be used for the vehicles.
The story is as follows: a famous explorer and friend of nearby Resident Shrunken Ned is Dr. Archibald Crane. He has journeyed into the jungle after his plane crashed nearby (wreckage located in the Jungle Cruise) and has become lost. Fortunately, a nearby jeep service owned by Shrunken Ned has the provided transportation needed to get into the jungle and rescue the Dr.
The queue is located in the jeep rental location and is a mirrored design of Jungle Cruise’s queue. New decorations adorn the walls though.
The ride starts out in the jungle, passing by animatronic animals and even the Jungle Cruise boats. Soon the vehicles speed up and enter a temple. The inside is similar to the Indiana Jones Adventure. The ride finally takes a thrilling turn as the vehicle dip and dive through the ruins. Located throughout the temple are a plethora of booby traps; such as fire pits, poison darts, sinkholes, and collapsing structures. The Theming inside is a mixture of moss, skulls and skeletons, and strange idols. The ride ends off with you rescuing Archibald and escaping from the collapsing temple by diving down a 20 foot drop into a lava pit which blasts you to the outside.

Diamond Caverns:
Located in Frontierland on the Tom Sawyer Island is Diamond Caverns. The ride is basically a smaller version of Big Thunder Mountain. You sit in small mine carts which pass through beautiful diamond caverns and race through rocky tunnels.
The story is as follows: A group of mining settlers who have worked in the Big Thunder Mountain all of their life have finally decided to expand their horizons and search for more royalties. They have eventually discovered some diamonds on Tom Sawyer Island and made a fortune. Soon, former workers from The Big Thunder Mountain flocked to the island and began digging for diamonds. One industrial addition was the mine carts which were used for collecting diamonds and traveling deeper into the caverns. You yourself get to take a turn for riding in the carts and passing through the caverns.
The queue is indoors, behind the Tom Sawyer play and explore areas. The tunnels lead to the mine cart loading areas. The ride is a slightly fast pass through where you go through underground tunnels and into the diamond caverns. The top speed is 20 miles per hour. It is similar to a roller coaster, mostly a mouse one.

Enchanted Forest Exploration:
In Fantasyland (and replacing the Ariel’s Grotto area as well as the current Pooh Play place) is Enchanted Forest exploration. You sit in a suspended “fairy cart” and fly above Pixie Hollow where you meet Tinkerbell and her Pixie friends. The story follows the Tinkerbell adventure films that Disney has been promoting and has you finding some lost treasure. The ride is simple, but beautifully themed. Towering trees and Pixie Hollow glow at night with firefly styled lighting. The pixie animatronics are the first suspended animatronics used in the parks. Other sets are more indoors, such as the destroyed Pirate Ship, inside Pixie Hollow, and a few others. The shop is called “Pixie Hollow Gifts”, an indoor shop built in the center of a fairies’ tree. Also featured is a Fairie Meet’n’greet.

New Land (Treasureland):
The newest Land to be added to the Magic Kingdom will be Treasureland. The land is located outside the berm of Fantasyland, replacing Toontown. The land is an equivalent to Adventureland in style, but is designed and featured like something out of an old serial or even an adventure treasure book. The land features old fashioned buildings and circles around a massive skull which houses the main ride. Also located in the land is a small play area where kids get to search for treasure, a few gift shops, and a restaurant. Be sure to look at the ground. You might even find a few hidden treasures (or a pair of mouse ears)

Land Poster:
picture.php

Rides:
The Lost Treasure:
Located in the massive Skull in the center of the land. The Lost Treasure is an E-Ticket thrill ride that hurtles you through a crumbling ruin and trying to get a lost amulet that is considered sacred by any resident of Treasureland. The ride is very well themed, with detail going from tiny lettering telling the story of the ride and amulet to massive caverns through which you pass. Your ride vehicle is similar to an EMV jeep, but is on a track.
The queue is full of surprises. It starts outside and carries on through darkened tunnels. Lettering on the walls explains the history of the ride and the amulet. Hidden artifacts show the history of the land and explain why the skull is the way it is. Small booby traps surprise guests (including blasts of air and loud noises). The load platform even trembles itself as if the structure is very weak.
The ride lasts about 5 minutes, and speeds up through various show scenes with strange mystical effects, animatronic insects and creepy creatures, bubbling pools of hot lava, hanging vines, blasts of air, sensory effects, etc. The top speed is 25 miles per hour.

Treaure Hunters Coaster:
Formerly Goofy’s Barnstormer is Treasure Hunters Coaster. The mini-coaster is mostly the same. Only major difference is the queue, which is designed to be an interactive treasure finding experience. The track is repainted to a light brown with highlights of green. It is a fun coaster for little kids.

Los Puerto’s De Boat Ride:
Rich treasure finding immigrant Daniel Costa Puertos has bought up land in Treasureland, and has cordially invited you to take a relaxing boat trip through the canals of Treasureland. Unfortunately, even treasure stealers are planning on sacking the gold bank and are going to make off with valuable jewels and diamonds owned by Daniel. Your job switches to try and stop the thieves. The boat ride is similar to Pirates of the Caribbean, but ends off with a 30 foot plunge into a canal.

Shops:
Treasure Hunters United- A small gear shop for all of your “treasure hunting” needs. Sells clothes, refreshments, and similar items.

Jewels, Diamonds, and More- A small shop used for accessories and bathrooms. Located near Land’s entrance.

Seeker’s Shop- A gift shop for “The Lost Treaure”, this shop is located inside of the skull. The shop is made to look like it has appeared out of a storybook, and will include items for any needs.

Restaurant:

Diamond in the Rough:
Treasureland’s only real restaurant is the Diamond in the Rough. It is themed to a small outdoor beach where you can enjoy a relaxing dining atmosphere and a unique, Spanish flavored cuisine. The restaurant is supposedly owned by Daniel Costa Puertos.

Breakfast:
Poached Eggs
‘X’ marks the Pancakes
Waffles
Bacon
Grits

Lunch:
Pulled Pork
Salmon
Hamburgers
Hot Dogs
Sandwiches

Dinner:
Fried South American Fish
Steamed Shrimp
Chicken with Mashed Potatoes
Breakfast Platter
(Also includes the lunch menu)

(Deserts are same as those served in the parks)
