Great work, guys, we've got just about half of the entries. Keep 'em coming, you've got two days left.

Regarding the attraction-related mixup with Maneatingwreath, don't anybody worry about it. We're going to do the best to accommodate everyone fairly.

My entry is for the TWILIGHT ZONE TOWER OF TERROR

As you shuffle into the Tower Of Terror Library, something new catches your eye.

There on the back wall, you notice a small decorative mirror that you have never seen before on previous trips.

A quick glance in the dark glass shows your reflection...but then suddenly..."What in the...?"

It is you in the mirror...only now you see yourself wearing a grotesque mask just like one of the character's in the old Twilight Zone episode The Masks.
You turn to grab the nearest person "Honey, you gotta see this!"

But when you turn back, it is only your own reflection gazing back at you wearing a confused expression.

Did you just imagine it?

The room grows dark, as the preshow begins.

You hear Rod Serlings voice...

(this creepy mirror effect can be simply and elegantly achieved with lighting, projection and limited two way glass.)

This hidden gem is for Dinosaur.

In the adventure that lies ahead, guests board the Dino Institute's Time Rovers and travel back 65 million years to the time when dinosaurs were obliterated by meteor showers. Just before you leave, you are asked by the rebellious Dr Grant Seeker to bring back the last Iguanodon. When explaining the task ahead he mentions that he had previously tagged the dinosaur with a locator on an 'authorised field trip'. (http://bit.ly/bObmRF)

That wasn't all that the Doctor got up to when he went back to the Cretaceous period. In a spur of the moment action, he brought back a dinosaur egg that he literally snatched from behind it's mothers back. It was a Carnotauras egg. When he returned to the modern day he was forced to hide it, but realising that his colleagues at the Dino Institute suspected something he planned to take it home. As he was leaving the Institute the egg fell out from his pocket and rolled away- he has been looking for it ever since.

Nestled between some bushes right next to the ride entrance, the Carnotauras egg still hasn't been found. Most guests are too worried about getting in the queue or checking the FASTPASS times to notice it. It would be impossible to find unless you were specifically looking for it. If you are looking for it, and happen to be in the right place at the right time, something extraordinary happens.

A family are heading into the Dinosaur queue when they are a faint growl coming from the bushes, almost like a baby dinosaur. They peer into the bushes and see a dinosaur egg. A hole in the top of the egg cracks open. A baby dinosaurs head peers out and the family are startled. The dinosaur gives another little growl and turns it's head left and right. It then retreats back into the egg, leaving the family puzzled, before they continue into the attraction.

Basically it's a small animatronic hidden in some bushes. It makes a noise every half an hour to attract the attention of guests then goes through the same routine. When it retreats back into the egg the egg reseals itself.

And a word of warning. After Dr Grant Seeker stole that egg from its mother, she has been looking for her child ever since. So when you go back 65 million years you may come across one very, very angry Carnotauras.

(And Dinosaur would be renamed Countdown to Extinction!!!:sohappy:)

Here is mine...

Attraction:
The Twilight Zone Tower Of Terror

Hidden Gem:
Rod Serling Portrait

Derscription:
Located in the 5th dimension scene ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/crack11974/3376823778/)
is a portrait of Rod Serling (http://www.flickr.com/photos/17715931@N00/2186733862/). Using the current technology employed in The Haunted Mansion, the photo will appear and disappear randomly, giving a ghostly effect. Guests with a very good eye will catch this gem in the corner of the 5th dimension room.
Even better eyed guests will notice the small card attached to the top of the portrait reading,

"Rod Serling's Portrait: Please Deliver To Maple Street"

The portrait is in part, a tribute to Serling.

Oops, sorry! I forgot to add the other part to my gem!
Option 1) Have the same crow appear at least once before in the ride, for cohesiveness's sake.
Option 2) Have the other crows from Dumbo hidden in the ride elsewhere, sort of as a secret scavenger hunt.
My apologies once again!

Oops...

All I have to say are these two words:

EPIC FAIL

Sorry about that I didn't read about the selected attractions we could make gems for. :dazzle: I should have realized something was up when all of the attraction gems you guys were coming up with were from pretty much the same attractions. I'll make a new one as soon as possible.

Again I know not listening to the instructions is a big no-no in a competition like this so please forgive me and don't think of me as an idiot...despite the fact that I am one :p!!!!!

Anyhow so I guess I'll make a hidden gem for Splash Mountain, simply because it's one of my own personal favorites.

And I'm pretty sure that Splash Mountain was one of our options, so yeah...:D

I'm kind of working off the whole gem concept of Leota's Tombstone in the queue of the Haunted Mansion. Something's that visible to the public but still has a certain mystery to it. So how could something like this go with Splash Mountain?

Well one of my favorite things in a Disney theme park is the sense of mystery you get in a certain area such as Adventureland, Frontierland, or even Critter Country. Just something as exciting as the vast wilderness or the sounds of distant animals calling to you really gets your senses stirred. So I thought that it would be nice to add something like this to Splash Mountain. Now Splash Mountain is an awesome attraction hands down, it has everything that one needs to make a true e-ticket attraction. It has a good storyline, memorable songs and characters, thrills, and that sense of adventure that one can find on such attractions as the Jungle Cruise or Big Thunder Mountain.

The attraction also has a certain "earthy" feel to it, as if you're traveling in underground tunnels that one would dig in the mud at the park or the sand at a beach. It's as if you never know when you may run into an actual rabbit or an actual fox or bear. Just the giant roots hanging over head, the big rocks wedged into the walls, just everything about the attraction makes you feel amazing, as if you're in some other world. So I figured why not add onto that adventurous feeling? :animwink:

So with this "earthy" and "mysterious" feel in mind I have come up with a "hidden" gem for our beloved Chickapin Hill which is the hill where Splash Mountain takes place in case you didn't know.

It's a pretty simple addition to the attraction, but will definitely be able to become a real gem for park guests to enjoy.

So basically right after the scene where Brer Fox has captured Brer Rabbit in the Laughing Place there is a chunk of empty space seperating you from the final lift hill, the vultures, and the prior scene. Now at Disneyland in California there is the whole "Burrow's Lament" scene where a mother possum and rabbit sing to their children about the dangers of the Laughing Place. Now although this scene has not been seen at any other Splash Mountain in the world (There's only three of them) many fans wish that both mountains in Tokyo and Walt Disney World had this scene or at least one to compare with it. So I chose to create one that can compare with it for the Walt Disney World version of the attraction. (If we aren't supposed to be making the gem for WDW please let me know and I'll change it ASAP)

So I came up with what I consider to be slight competition for the Burrow's Lament.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDDLMLjCLuY

At around 6:31 you can see a craggy portion of the Laughing Place pretty much occupied only by stalactites and stalagmites with bits of darkness in between. Well now a creepy new character will occupy this area. Say hello to Mister Wolf, the swamp's creepy new grave digger. What does a grave-digging wolf have to do with the attraction's storyline you may ask? Well this is exactly what he has to do with the attraction.

Mister Wolf (Whom will pretty much resemble a grim Marc Davis fox with grey fur and yellow eyes, if you're still confused take a look at the foxes dancing on the riverboat on Disneyland's version of Splash Mountain or the finale of America Sings' Old South portion of the show) now sits on the front porch of his river/rock-side house rocking back in forth in his rocking chair with his rusted old shovel leaning against the wooden panels of his house behind him. The old wolf hums a melancholy version of "Everybody's Gotta Laughing Place" under his breathe as he sharpens a pair of rusted knives against each other. An old lantern flickers for light as a dim candle glows from within the window behind him. As nearby Brer Fox and Brer Rabbit finish their little bit of dialogue between each other Mister Wolf gives a slight evil chuckle from within his throat, sharpening the knives with one loud *SHING*.

A sign appears bolted to the rock right next to the wolf's house, reading:

"MISTER W. W. WOLF GRAVE DIGGING SERVICES
ESTABLISHED 1872
Specializing in funerals, plot picking, coffin making,
body storing, cremations, burials, secret disposings,
illegal storage, and pretty much anything else you can
think of that is macabre and unsettling."

A list of names with check marks next to seldom numbers of them rests next to the wolf's rocking chair as he slowly rocks back in forth. He will appear to the far left of the rocks just before Brer Fox is seen in the video link posted above. Just picture him sitting there as the nervous guests go by him and his grim humming and chuckling...not to mention the whole knife-sharpening gag.

By the way I know this didn't really compare with the Burrow's Lament scene at all. Also earlier in the project I mentioned that it would be located in between the dead space between Brer Fox and the vultures. Well instead I changed my mind halfway through typing this on moving the gem to a different area of the attraction. Sorry for any mix ups folks, I'm just doing my job here.

And in case you're still confused on what Mister Wolf will look like, here is a picture of a Marc Davis fox:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_A4grLYnNd.../s320/20080521+15+America+Sings+Act+3+Fox.jpg

Only he'd be much scarier than that.

And again I'm TERRIBLY sorry about the mix up I had with the rules and guidelines for this project. PLEASE don't hate me for this slight goof. :lookaroun

great entries so far........maneatingwreath.....even though the jungle cruise was not an option i love your story. :sohappy: i also liked that you chose the jungle cruise because of your memories. because of them i feel a stronger connection with the story. i think if more imagineers dug into their memories we would see some more interesting stuff like yours.

The Imagineer: Season Two Project One
Hidden Gem
Attraction: Tower of Terror (DCA)
Pitch: Vault with stacks of books, and a pair of broken glasses on the floor in the first story of the boiler room. An homage to the famous Twilight Zone episode" Time Enough at Last".

For the first project, I decided to use the Tower of Terror because of the wealth of material the Twilight Zone has to offer. I decided to go for the one in DCA simply because it's the only one I've been to. My concept is simple, an homage to the classic Twilight Zone episode "Time Enough at Last". I'll give you guys a quick pitch if you're not familiar. The episode involves a bookworm trapped in a world where everyone around him condemns his reading. One day, while taking a break at his work, as a bank teller, slips into the vault to enjoy some private reading. During his exile, there happens to be a nuclear holocaust, and he em emerges from the vault the last man on earth. At first he wanders this desolate wasteland alone, and becomes depressed and suicidal. Then, he sees the ruins of a library, with stacks upon stacks of books still in tact. Unfortunately, he carelessly breaks his glasses in the process of celebrating. "That's not fair", the man said desperately in the episode's closing line. "There was TIME now!"

My idea for an homage to this episode is to take place in the first story of the Boiler Room. It will be right underneath the first turn from the downstairs queue. The concept is simple, a vault hidden within the midst of the boiler room. In the vault, piles of books. Two details are less obvious. The broken glasses lying on the floor of the vault or the scribblings on some of the covers of the books of the phrase "there was time now!".

That's basically my pitch. I hope you enjoyed it.

@Plutoismyhero, unfortunately, sign ups are over. If you want, though, you can try this practice project and I'll talk to the man in charge. Most likely, you'll be put on the standby list, which isn't as bad as it sounds. We get a lot of dropouts.

New Hidden Jem at Dinosaur! At Disney's Animal Kingdom!

The Basic Idea:
As many Disney fans know, the original name of the Dinosaur! ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom was Countdown to Extinxtion. This hidden gem would pay homage to the original name.

What It Would Require:
This gem would require 2 screens on each row of seating for the time rovers.

The Gem:
Part of the attraction is the voice of your time rover's computer. Toward the end of the ride, when it is absolute mayhem, the computer announces "Meteor Strike in 90 Seconds". At this time, your scientist commands the computer to "Abort mission!". You make it out just in time,as the computer counts down with an announcement every 30 seconds. The hidden jem would have the top part of the screen reading "Countdown to Extinction 1 Minutes- 30 Seconds" at the first announcement, counting down from there. It would definately be a hidden gem that only hardcore fans would recognize.

Benefeits:
The screens would also allow for "live" video of the scientist who sent you on your mission as he communicates with the computer and you. Further plussing the attraction.

Here is a diagram showing the layout and design of the screen.

Thanks to all who have posted so far. Remember you have until NOON EST Tomorrow (Sunday Feb 14th) to post.

So far, i have that Alexx, comics101, Jeany031, pianofrost, and mewhunter67 havent posted a project.

@plutoismyhero, i have PM'd you some information.

Now im sure all of you are wondering how we will be judgeing this one, well since this is a PRACTICE round, this will be a very simple YES/NO Judging session, as we are looking for the "Top 16" to participate in the competition with the others going on the "Standby List".

Onto the Judging Process (NOTE JUDGES this is for you to understand the most, if you have questions feel free to PM me), this will be very simple. We SHOULD have 19 projects when this is allover. So you as the judge will "rank" them (1= best and 19= least best), in your opinion, and then JUST SEND ME your bottom 3 (#17-19) and then as our judges (TrevorA, Myself, TheMadHatter, and bamsk8er49, Disneyson said he will be away) we wil see which three projects got the MOST "least votes" will go on the waiting list.

Hidden Gems for Splash Mountain.

Greetings fellow Imagineers,

After many hours of careful consideration, I propose adding some hidden gems to the wonderful ride of Splash Mountain.

First, I would add to the magic of this ride by incorporating a new tradition that has popped up in recent years: Pin Trading. I would like to place a couple of trading pins on some of the minor characters throughout the ride. These pins will be Disney related but not any specific Disney Characters that might detract from the ride’s main theme or prevent riders from seeing them as Hidden Mickeys or any other hidden characters. Adding these pins will create a unique hidden gem for the small yet growing population of Pin Traders---that is, if they are vigilant enough to spot them!

Next, I would like to honor one of Disney’s lesser-appreciated animated motion pictures. “The Fox and the Hound” is a creative work of art that has yet to be honored by Disney’s theme parks. With that in mind, I’ve asked Boomer (a woodpecker) and Dinky (a finch) to take a vacation at Splash Mountain, where they will find lodging on a tree in the scene where Brer Fox and Brer Bear are watching Brer Rabbit. *http://disney.satarma.com/zimages/clipart/Birds.jpg*
These two characters will fit seamlessly into the ride’s them, and to many riders, they will just be two more birds, while others will be able to spot them as part of Disney’s unique magic.

Finally, I would like to add a personal touch to the ride. Being a puzzle- and code- appreciating person, I think placing a coded message in the ride would be fun for those who can spot it while taking part in the adventure. As I’m sure you’re aware, along the path of the ride there are lanterns. What I propose to do is take one of the lanterns visible during a long stretch of the ride and have it flicker as if it was faulty. However, this light isn’t just randomly flickering but flashing out the Morse Code message of S.O.S (dot, dot, dot---dash, dash, dash---dot, dot, dot).

I hope you enjoy this hidden gems.
Thanks
Pianofrost.

You cannot have JII without Figment, Jeany031. He is a critical element in the ride. If you do not have Figment, people will hate the ride, and start a riot. That is what happened with the 1999 version.
