Immunity Challenge 1: Streetmoshpere

View attachment 585147

During the main challenge your teams were asked to create a whole new parade, but there's more to entertainment than a huge spectacular like that. For this immunity challenge, if you chose to do so, is to pitch a Streetmoshpere concept for any theme park of your choosing. This immunity challenge is completely optional, and if you choose to submit something it must be done in a private message set up with @tcool123 . Some of you already have a PM, but if you do not please feel free to start one with me as my computer is on the fritz. Due to this reviews may be delayed but should be out before I go to work tomorrow!

The immunity challenge is due on Friday, September 10th at 10 PM EST. Please use one to two sentences, and you may use an optional supplementary image.

Tcool's Reviews

I would like to start off by saying thank you to everybody who signed up to participate in the Imaginarium. I am grateful for all of you, and without any of you this competition would not have been able to happen. I'm glad both teams were able to work on their parades, and come up with such great concepts. Let's keep the ball rolling with challenge two and buck that trend of the Imaginarium fizzling out in the second challenge! Before we move on though let me tackle these reviews!

- Fantasia in Bloom - Team Imaginators -

First off I think tying this parade as a seasonal offering, and giving DCA their own Flower and Garden was great move! The Spring Has Sprung event was a neat way to kick off the celebration. The approach with the food, beverage, and merchandise were all logical. It was great to see all the excess flowers actually get a use from their existence! Now onto the meat and potatoes of the project, the parade.

I think the approach of doing the parade as an homage to the Rose Parade is smart given that the parade is played on national television, and is easily recognizable. It is a great way to play into the California theme of the park while mixing a healthy helping of Disney magic. The attention to detail down to the logistics of how this parade will work is admirable, but I do have concerns if the sharp increase in demand from Disney would be able to be met from local suppliers for the two month process. Having the parade go around the route twice is a smart play allowing to spread out crowds throughout the day, and of course would add great smell to the places in the park it will pass by. And yes I found the hidden @Outbound .

I think choosing Fantasia as the theme for the parade was a good play as the artistry and whimsy of the two films lends itself well to the material used for the floats; in addition I think the more classical music pairs really well with the idea of flowers. Each unit is wonderfully designed, and the usage of art aids in cutting down the words needed to describe each float. I like the detail of knowing what flower goes to each float, but one thing I wished was utilized more was what the flower symbolized. I feel like having that throughout could have added a deeper meaning to each float.

I have to ask in the Pastoral Symphony are the performers really throwing anemones? Aren't those sea creatures, and wouldn't they stink up the route as they rotted in the California heat? Perhaps the roller skaters from the Nutcracker Suite will pick them up? (all kidding I am aware there is a flower of the same name) Speaking of the Nutcracker Suite there seems to have been a large disconnect between what was written and what was illustrated. I am aware both were from different users, and for future reference (this goes for everyone!) communication and teamwork are key! They're not only important in an imagineering competition, but this is a great place to build those skills for the real world. That said both concepts sound and looked great!

I think Carnival of the Animals sticks out in its placement due to its more goofy nature of the design, and while yes it is Fantasia and representation for the sequel it does clash a bit with the rest of the units. With that the remaining floats are all very grand with some large wow moments with the whales, dinosaurs, and of course the firebird and spring sprite. I think each float will be visually and striking thanks to the medium the parade was done in, but I do wish it was more clear if the animatronics themselves on the floats were also covered in natural material or just simple skinned animatronics.

The website was very well put together with the fonts and logo chosen conveying the light and airy feeling of Spring, the attention to detail and typography did not go unnoticed! The video presentation that was put together was nice, and conveyed the music and parade order well. I believe the opening song was an original track, but correct me if I'm wrong? Either way kudos to all of you for your hard work! Overall I think this team had a thought out and well executed parade that suffered hiccups here and there such as inconsistencies with descriptions and images alongside descriptions of the animatronics. However with all that said this was a really strong and solid parade.

- The Sunset Showcase Parade by Team Innovators -

I really enjoyed the logo for the parade as it felt real, and incorporated that Sunset Boulevard motif thanks to the usage of the sign. The day to night concept is really unique, and one I think Disney should explore as it allows for two unique experiences while not needing two whole separate day and night parades. I do think the Panic at the Disco choice is a bit of an interesting route given it's the first time for a theme to be totally nonDisney related (When Can I See You Again was for Wreck-It Ralph after all), but I think the song conveys the goal of the parade well. The backstory of the parade is a neat and smart way to tie together a mishmash of floats that on paper don't seem to go together, but the setup and logic are sound and there. Now onto the parade itself!

Showstops are a great way to diversify a parade, and make each unit more unique. I think the way the characters are handled here as well as the utilization of the parade's theme and the float's theme were great. I am a bit concerned about the day/night gimmick as while yes there are different units it may be disappointing to guests that only Oliver & Co has a float rather than Sorcerer's Apprentice. While the effects for the latter sound really neat I really do feel like a float is missing as the broomsticks come off as the performers leading said missing float. Another concern that arose was the inconsistency with the storyline featuring the conductor who seems to be present in most floats changing their
interpretations completely, but at other times it's just regular floats that celebrate and recreate scenes from the film they're presenting.

With all of that said I do think the floats are really well made, and took some really good approaches for franchises I didn't think I'd see in a parade such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones. The visuals for the Indiana Jones float were really done from the literal artwork to the written work describing the vivid changes from day to night alongside the action sequences was a really neat way to embrace the concept of this parade. The way the Star Wars float was handled was smart it is hard to encapsulate the best scene for a float from the franchise, but having three fights happening at separate times throughout the float was a great to incorporate various scenes from the films and fan favorites.

I think these floats represent my biggest issue with the parade: Comedy and Horror alongside the Romance and Finale floats. They just feel very disjointed together, and like they're from different parades. Don't get me wrong all four floats are good, great even! I think the Comedy and Horror floats are really unique, and fun spins on the movie tributes. Meanwhile the Romance and Finale floats are classic Disney fare that pleases everyone! However it feels like Betty and Ace were tacked on, and what about night when they were both shown sleeping earlier? I think the concepts shown in the parade were really unique, great and ambitious. When it came down to it it just feels like two different parades with similar themes where combined which is a shame because I really do love the concepts shown here, and I think a Citizens of Hollywood parade where they interject themselves into the leading roles is a novel concept while a celebration of film and their characters without the citizens were also really great!

Overall I enjoyed the parade it had really solid visuals, it was really unique, and it was a bold move to tell a story like this through parade. With that said I do think the parade had some kinks that didn't fully convey the story that was sought after which is a shame as I really would love something like the original idea fully explored.

Please note that reviews from @mickeyfan5534 , @Outbound and @Disney Warrior are still being written. However the results will be posted momentarily as they are guest judges providing for more feedback for the teams.
