Disney Virtual Kingdom
20160606_104416_zpsyp8oqrmn.jpg

DisneyQuest has been touted as an indoor Interactive theme park since its inception in 1998 at the formally known Downtown Disney West Side. The large 5-story infrastructure housed arcade games, virtual simulators, among other elements as part of the Water Park Fun and More Option on the Park Hopper Pass. Over the years and almost approaching its 20th anniversary, the technological age has progressed far beyond the limits even a few decades ago.

For instance, when DisneyQuest first opened, this might have been the cell-phone you were using, (if you had one)

and your e-mail

With this noticeable progression, a theme park based around technology and the virtual realm deserves a contemporary update of the highest caliber to ensure the continued success. Especially with the 2016 re-design of Downtown Disney to the praised Disney Springs, the seemingly untouched West Side could use some refurbishments as well.

Therefore, over the next few years, DisneyQuest will go down for a large overhaul in theme and design, re-opening as...Disney Virtual Kingdom.

Thematic Overview
Disney Virtual Kingdom will be 5 floors of the latest advancements in technology, with a specific Disney flare, and a true kingdom of activities that will encourage young and old, families alike, to come explore what is inside.

Rather than focus on one specific demographic or genre interest, there is something at Disney Virtual Kingdom for all Disney fans alike. From sprawling Tron Lightcycle Go-Kart Tracks, to a virtual 1970s Magic Kingdom, this update will be sure to please everyone in the family.

Facade Refurbishment
20160606_104518_zpspvhozdvq.jpg

As part of the major changes to the now re-named Disney Virtual Kingdom, the seemingly generic teal blue design of the original DisneyQuest building will be replaced with a futuristic, metallic blue design, complete with a large overhanging cover that will cross over the West Side walkway, guiding guests inside.

The architectural design of the building has also changed, as the front of the building will have large glass panels that allow onlookers in West Side to peer in at the massive elevators that travel in plain sight throughout the 5 floors of interactivity. In addition, the 5th floor will be reshaped with a massive planetarium dome, that will not only bring a new experience for guests on the 5th floor, but also add to the aesthetics of the building itself.

At night, the building comes alive with a glowing neon blue facade, and a glowing violet planetarium dome, completely remodeling the West Side and blending in with the modern architecture of the new shops surrounding it.

The 1st Floor, Disney/Pixar Adventure Arcade, is a more "kid-friendly" area of the building (though it can be for anyone - even kids at heart) Inside you will have a plethora of arcade style games and events to choose from based on Disney or Pixar Animated films, such as

Each of the cars will have their own color and the track's color palate will change depending on how long you have left in the race.

The 3rd Floor is probably the most unique floor in all of Disney Virtual Kingdom. A first of its kind, virtual water park.

The virtual water park is designed to include a number of water based thrill attractions and digital entertainment, all embodying the confines of a water park. There will be no need for bathing suits however and no actual swimming on this floor (while Disney Virtual Kingdom is a large structure, we wouldn't want the chlorine smell or anything like that being involved and potentially hinder the experience on other floors an in the common areas)

Instead, as the title suggests, all the water based experiences will be virtual

1 - Restrooms

2 - Lockers

3 - Digital Dive Water Coaster

20160606_174205_zpsnztagj2j.jpg

During the day this is a nice location to get a quick bite to eat, offering fish and chips, and a variety of other fast food items common around the Disney parks. Located on the 3rd floor it is in the center of the Disney Virtual Kingdom Building and offers guests a relaxing spot to eat throughout the day, as our planetarium restaurant on the 5th floor is only open for dinner.

4th Floor - Virtual Magic Kingdom
20160606_104937_zpsmbxbrldx.jpg

The 4th floor of Disney Virtual Kingdom will be a nostalgic Disney fan's dream. Imagine being able to step foot back on Main Street U.S.A. in 1971? See the sights and smells once more? Or what would it look like if Western River Expedition was built in the 1980s?

Those questions and dreams will be realized in Virtual Magic Kingdom, which will be a combination of the Oculus Rift Technology, combined with 4D effects and a massive virtual reality room, in addition to some virtual rides as well.

Virtual Magic Kingdom is a look back at the past years of the theme park, allowing you to go back in time to the early years, and to the Magic Kingdom that never was.

Turn your head to the left and see the old Frontierland train station where Splash Mountain sits today, our journey to Thunder Mesa to the sprawling mountain range of the Old West.

5 - Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
The classic Fantasyland attraction in Walt Disney World is given new life in Disney Virtual Kingdom.

Ride along with Mr. Toad on this simulated experience surrounded by projection screens as you travel through the adventures of Mr. Toad and relive all of the classic moments from the now extinct attraction.

6 - 20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

20160606_105229_zpsb9wlmbw7.jpg

An upgraderd version of the original Cyber Space Mountain, this new version transports you into the Space Mountain building (in black light form as seen above) and gives you a variety of options in order to make your roller coaster experience more customized.

These updates include:

Larger lift hills, front flips, Zero-G inversions, and more scenery to choose from, as well as a custom sound to choose from based on a library of options.

8 - Delta Dreamflight
Although of the same name and sponsored by Delta, this will be a new attraction that will travel the virtual realm and into outer space, a journey through the technological advancements and to the stars (a hint at what is to come above on the 5th floor)

5th Floor - Planetarium
20160606_105104_zpse6socokt.jpg

The 5th Floor will be a virtual spaceport, with an all-encompassing cafe under the stars, located in the large planetarium dome built atop of Disney Virtual Kingdom.

During the day, the planetarium is home to a 30 minute show narrated by Neil Degrasse Tyson about the journey towards the stars and how we use technology and advancements in computer science to get there. It will be a story of how we have progressed from the space age in the 1960s to the possibilities of exploring Mars and other galactic territories based on the advancements in science.

At night however, the planetarium seating is morphed into a dining experience under the stars, as you gaze up at the illuminated dome above you as shooting stars pass overhead, and classical space music is played in the background.

In addition to planetarium location, there is also an interactive moon walk station where you can walk as the astronauts did with little gravitational pull, experiencing what it's like to walk on the moon.

Giftshop
Under the large, arching, overhang in the front of the pavilion is a quaint gift location, selling merchandise specific to Disney Virtual Kingdom, including collectable pins, t-shirts, accessories, and more.

Conclusion
Overall Disney Virtual Kingdom will hope to be a beacon of the future for generations to come, an ever evolving arena of technological prowess and the latest in virtual reality experiences that give guests of the Walt Disney World Resort something that they can't experience elsewhere. Disney Virtual Kingdom will hope to bring new life to the West Side of Disney Springs and offer a contemporary adventure into the virtual world.

Another classic Fantasyland attraction, in 20K you will board a simulator submarine and dive down into the depths of the ocean, to explore with Captain Nemo. But beware of the sea creatures of the deep and the treacherous Giant Squid.

7 - Cyber Space Mountain

This is amazing.

Elevator Description
The Elevators in the newly designed Disney Escape will be an attraction in and of themselves. While a short ride to the top of the 5 story building, the elevators will slowly rise so that each floor tells a story.

As you board the elevators, the lights will go dim and whether you are going up or down, a narrator on the elevator will give you a brief description of the floor that is coming up next.

A small panel on the upper right hand side above the numbers will show a detailed map of the floor you are going to and the narration will describe the elements on it. Furthermore, the elevator itself will be engulfed in theme, as the lights go dark, and projections will illuminate the walls with certain designs that will blend into the floor once the elevator doors open on that particular floor.

Once you’ve arrived on your designated escape room floor you’ll be directed to a large holding room for groups awaiting their chance at Disney Escape. Each floor will have their own specialized holding area themed to that escape room with HD video screens giving some basic do’s and don’ts and what to expect about the rooms themselves. Be sure and pay attention, the holding room and video may hold clues that could help, or hurt you in your escape. Once your room is fully prepped, one of our Escape Guide’s will direct you to your awaiting room and get your adventure started.

So what will you choose? Think your sleuthing abilities are up to snuff? Then test your mettle in our Muppets & You and The Great Baseball Diamond Caper room. Maybe you want to channel your inner Boba Fett? Then the Quest of the Bounty Hunter is right up your alley. Do you think Dr. Jones gets away from one too many booby traps too easily? Well show us what you’ve got and escape Indiana Jones and the Curse of Time. Or just maybe you think you would be the greatest scarer of all time? Then prove it in The Scare Floor Escape.

Here’s a little more detail about what you can expect from each of our escape rooms at Disney Escape.

Muppets & You and The Great Baseball Diamond Caper room
meep-muppet-meep-up.jpg

As the Muppets have locked themselves in an enclosed baseball diamond and have a show to do in 15 minutes, it is your job with a group of friends to assemble Beeker's failed contraption and get the Muppets to their show.

Along the way explosions and chaos ensues, as Statler and Waldorf heckle you from the side. The banter back and forth increases as the escape room timer dies out and you have to race against the clock and against all the Muppets that are getting in your way.

Such as Fozzie you doesn't seem to be fazed at all that they are trapped. Or Miss Piggy who is trying to interfere because she claims she thinks you're doing it wrong. Or Sam who continuously sings God Bless America and thinks that they are trapped because the world is going to end.

All this funny and chaotic endeavors come to a head when you finally fixed the device that gets the Muppets out of the room, much to the dismay of Statler and Waldorf who claim that being trapped in a room was better than watching the Muppets show.

Star Wars Escape Room: The Quest of the Bounty Hunter
image_991736d0.jpeg

In this adventure, you, will be a bounty hunter and be tasked by Jabba the Hutt to find a cure for a disease that Rotta the Hutt has contracted.

Enter the Star Wars galaxy as you are transported to Tatooine and are approached by a massive Audio-Animatronic Jabba the Hutt, who with his servants, sends you on a mission to explore the dunes and caves of Tatooine to uncover the cure, said to be hidden deep within an abandoned Sith outpost.
Boba-Fett_61fdadfd.jpeg

You trek through the dunes and are greeted by Boba Fett who claims that he is going to reach the cure first and take the reward. He speeds off and you try and follow him as a sand storm approaches and you have to run for cover from the storm. After passing the first level of the maze by unlocking a cave door, you are inside a Mos Eisely cave.

Sandtroopers come out from around the corner and ask you where you are going. You interact with the Sandtroopers for a while before they point you in the direction you need to go.

Once you reach another door to the next level, you have to solve a riddle that unlocks the door. Failure to unlock the door results in a loud roar, a hint to the Rancor and what is to come if you don't succeed on the mission. After some time if you don't solve the riddle, the door will open automatically and you will enter the next room.

In this room is the climax of the escape room design, where the cure is located and Boba Fett has already retrieved it below Jabba's Temple. You race after him and soon Stormtroopers arrive and say that the Empire has struck a deal with Jabba and you as the bounty hunter cannot bring the cure back to him. You then see a panel where if you solve a small puzzle, it activates the Rancor from his pit and it attacks the Stormtroppers and Bubba Fett and you get the cure and achieve your mission.

If you don't solve the puzzle, the escape room game is over and the Rancor comes for you instead. However as this is supposed to be family friendly, the game will end before the Rancor actually gets to you.

Indiana Jones and the Curse of Time
Harrison-Ford-Wont-Be-Replaced-As-Indiana-Jones.jpg

(There may contain elements frightening for young children such as loud noises and some scary scenes, to be advised before entering the Escape Room)

In 1947, Indiana Jones embarked on a mission to find the Lost Tomb of Pharaoh Yensid. Cartography pointing towards the temple had been lost over the years, however small traces and clues still exist, and Indy was tasked with finding the Lost Tomb. Inside the Tomb was said to be a treasure for a thousand men, a treasure that Yensid had buried and hid before his death so that nobody could inherit his spoils. However, Indiana Jones isn't the only one after the Lost Tom, as several other nations send their best soldiers on a mission to find the treasure before Indy.

Join Indy on his mission as he runs into tomb raiders and thieves attempting to steal the treasure, as you travel through this Indiana Jones themed Escape Room.

The first room looks like you're in the jungles of South America, surrounded by thick grass and plants, covering an ancient temple. Your first mission is to discover a clue that you can use to track down the Lost Tomb in Egypt. As you enter the Temple, you hear footsteps behind you and soon, tomb raiders are hot on your tail as you run throughout the room. Soon, one of the tomb raiders fires a gun behind you, sending rocks flying from out of the ceiling. And then you see one large boulder in front of you coming towards you. You have to figure out the clues to unlock the escape door before the boulder reaches you.

Once you are inside the next door, you find the map that you need and you are transported to Egypt, where you are surrounded by deserts and sand.
indysnake.jpg

You walk inside a large Egyptian style structure and hear slithering from behind you, Indy said "why did it have to be snakes?" Soon projection images of snakes surround you and you have to run to escape them.

As you approach a long corridor, you look at the map you picked up in South America and enter in the riddle to gain access into the Egyptian Tomb before the snakes get you.

In the final escape room, you see the tomb and the tomb raiders can be heard in the distance. You make a choice with Indy that the treasure was never a goal, only a myth, noticing that there is no treasure other than the adventure. However soon the walls again begin to crumble around you and you narrowly make your escape before the tomb raiders approach.

Monsters Inc: Mike and Sully's Bedroom Escape
b6f7372e10eb42cfcc233b0b2ef40d31.jpg

In the dark of the night are the creeks and groans that keep us up at night. Another world beyond the monster infested closet. An laugh energy rationing? Journey into the real world with your favorite monsters Mike and Sully to laugh the energy out of some lucky kids! But wait, who locked the closet door? Maybe the fiendish monster Randall, back for revenge!

Using the surrounding kids toys in the room such as simplified Rubic's Cubes, toy keys, and even bouncy balls, your goal is to quickly break into the child's toy-chest to find the key to open the closet portal (obviously filled with Toy Story eater eggs!). Good luck, and watch out for those parents!

Upon completion, you are then brought to another level in which Randall (via screen) shows that he has once again kidnapped Boo and is hiding in one of 3 doors in front of you. One leads to a trailer, one to a Hawaiian bungalow, and the last to the bedroom of an ill-tempered teenage Youtuber (with references to the Disney co-owned III Maker Studios). One will lead to the outside world, where you must then locate Randall in hiding.

This seems like a daunting task, but you aren't alone. As you venture through the rooms, you also get to interact with numerous agents from the CPA, who are also trying to locate Randall and arrest him.

Hope you find Randall, or you might just be banished to the Mountains!!!

Team Slytherin Presents:

DisneyQuest has delighted guests for years in the past years... but recently, it has fallen into disrepair and disinterest. Arcades as a whole have lowered in popularity with console and especially mobile gaming, and anything bigger than a resort arcade is becoming increasingly unnecessary. That's why, Disney Quest will shut its doors later this year, to be demolished and to make way for a new venue that will give guests a great extra activity in Disney Springs. Introducing... the Disney Springs Broadway Theater!

LosAngeles-Kerhart-143.jpg

The Disney Springs Broadway Theater is a deluxe venue for traveling Broadway-caliber shows. Years after the formation of the city of Disney Springs, several of the citizens came together to form a Theater Club, that quickly escalated in popularity. Talented actors, actresses, singers, and musicians came together, and the population of drama experts sparked the creation of this massive theater, with around 2,000 seats.

The lobby of this theater is relatively large and open to the public. It includes ticket booths, a cocktail bar, restrooms, and a gift shop full of Broadway musical merchandise. Traveling shows visit and perform at the theater often; but when no shows are in town, there is performances of an exclusive "Tangled: The Musical" several times a week!

Tickets range in cost for each traveling show, but for "Tangled: The Musical," they are generally at around $75-$125 for adult tickets and $60-100 for children tickets. In order to not compete with nearby entertainment options next door, several new Disney Springs Entertainment Package are offered. The base package includes tickets for La Nouba and Tangled: The Musical at a base of $150 for adults. There are several upgraded packages, including a $200 package that also includes a ride on the nearby "Characters in Flight" and a meal at select Disney Springs restaurants.

Shows:

The Disney Springs Theater offers a multitude of shows for all ages. Most of these consist of travelling Broadway shows (Newsies, Lion King, etc.), making Disney Springs the official hub for Orlando-area Broadway performances.

When no travelling shows are present in the area, however, a slew of original Disney themed Broadway-caliber musicals will rotate throughout the year. For opening night, the Theater Club is proud to produce...

DCL-Tangled-Musical-Logo.jpg

"Tangled- The Musical" is a wildly funny and adventurous musical, retelling the story of one of the most loved modern animated films, "Tangled.", being inspired by the recent Disney Cruise Line show.

This isn't a cruise-level show however. Unlike it's predecessor, "Tangled- The Musical" is an hour and fifty-five minutes long, split into two 50 minute acts, along with a 10 minute intermission. Being the longer show that it is, Disney has hired the songwriters from "Frozen" to implement eight new songs for the musical. But don't fret... all of the original songs will remain too (Let's just say that the "I Got A Dream" segment is simply amazing). The sets and technical lighting are of Broadway-level quality.

With "Tangled- The Musical", families can find an affordable, yet top-notch show, recreating and implementing pure Disney magic.

Conclusion:
With the Disney Springs Theater, Disney Springs becomes a pinnacle for live entertainment, delivering Broadway-level shows of the highest quality, as well as serving as a stop for popular travelling shows. While Disney Quest proved over time to be outdated and far behind the times, Broadway is without a single doubt.. timeless.

Curtain Call!

The Grid
Disney Quest is a shadow of it's former self. What were once top of the line games are now clunky relics. That is why we of Hufflepuff House are proud to announce that in 2018, Disney Quest will now transport you into The Grid. Sam Flynn, after a successful trial run in Shanghai, has opened the Grid further in Disney Springs, Florida. This time, we enter through a recreation of Flynn's arcade. Classic games line the walls as we're beckoned further in. We see a broken down Space Paranoids machine come to life as we're digitized and sent into a recognizer, in reality an elevator, ready to be sent to the Arena. Floor two of the Grid is The Arena. Numerous digital battles take place that you can bet on with virtual money, called bits here, as well as disc battles people can participate in. The next floor is full of lightcycles. These iconic vehicles take us all over The Grid on a surprising tour in a simulator titled The Lightcycle Grid Run. Guests board lightcycles and are taken on simulated high speed chase through The Grid. With the latest advances in simulator technology and randomized experiences, The Lightcycle Grid Run is a brand new C-ticket level attraction that is sure to keep guests coming back. Also on the floor is the quick service End of the Line Club. This recreation of the strange locale from Tron: Legacy provides unique yet familiar food options. Floor four and five are taken up by an all new E-ticket level attraction titled Tron: Resurrection. Board Solar Sailers and join Sam Flynn and Quorra as they race through the Grid to find Tron's code to save the grid from the despicable Edward Dillinger Jr. and his army of viruses. In the end, with a happy ending at that, Sam and Quorra are victorious and resurrect Tron to keep the Grid safe from attacks once more.

Need I say more?

Ravenclaw

I think choosing an escape room theme is not only something that Disney could actually do well, but a type of entertainment that's coming on the rise. So, good job on thinking outside the box for this makeover!

I feel like the Muppets was an excellent IP choice, though I feel the area could be themed to something more Muppet-y than a baseball diamond. Maybe a backstage room or something. Though the Muppets are a franchise, I feel like if you're pushing a new concept, you should also push popular and new IPs, and the Muppets are slowly loosing it's current popularity due to the failure of the new series. Overrall, this idea seemed fun and entertaining, but I feel like you could have chosen a different theme.

The Star Wars Escape room would target tons of fans to come over and play, I think this would be the main draw for Disney Escape, just because the IP is so strong. Fantastic work on theming and storytelling, I really enjoyed this escape room concept!

Another great IP for the Escape room concept is Indiana Jones! This had to be my personal favorite out of all the concepts. It seemed like you we're actually on an Indiana Jones adventure! You really mixed all the great scenes from the Raiders of the Lost Ark with Disney style storytelling in a way that made it all work together. Great work!

I feel like Mike and Sulley's Bedroom escape would be the most popular escape rooms for families. This seemed detailed, fun, and a great thing for families looking for an interactive activity at Disney Springs!

Loved the Gift shop and the pins... Nice touches!

Overrall, I really enjoyed this concept Ravenclaw! Very out of the box! Though, I wish you has one more family friendly, today's family IP driven franchise in there instead of the Muppets.

Slytherin

It makes total sense to me to put in a theater when La Nouba is just across the way!

The makeover really makes this place look special. Love what you did with that!

I feel like you could have picked a different storyline than tangled as your "base show" when others aren't around. It's not that I don't like the film, I just feel like with all the IPs and Disney Animation you had in your back pocket for this challenge, you could have picked a stronger story than something already on the cruise ship. Though longer and more like an actual musical then it's cruise cousin, I feel like the time isn't enough to make it unique enough to Disney Springs to see. I would've loved to see you adapt a movie that hasn't been turned into a show yet.

Overrall, I thought the concept was great! Traveling shows for Disney Springs could really make the place popular, great move. Though I'm a little disappointed with the stage show being something similar to what we've seen before.

Hufflepuff

e0531-the-office-20101210040226451.gif

I'll be honest Hufflepuff, for having a week I was a disappointed seeing a paragraph posted, especially after seeing King's google doc elements left out.

I feel like the grid is a great theme! Tron would work well in that area theme wise. Flynn's Arcade looks Disney Springs-esque. Everything seemed to go well together, I just wish there was more of a written and visual description to really immerse me in the setting.

Overrall, this project seemed to have potential, but it was weighted down by the later post and little content.
