The Hall of Presidents: Closed for Rehab Starting January 1

Excellent idea

I think that the attraction would be interesting and more to the point, for Liberty Square, if it concentrated on the Revolutionary War period and the key figures of that time rather than showing a continuing line of US presidents.

The only way the current attraction with just the presidents could be made more interesting is to have the animatronic figures be bobble heads but that might not be considered proper.

:king:

I love this idea. Just the founding fathers and the forming of the nation. It would then feel less like a cheap rip off of The American Adventure. That is a great idea RiversideBunny. You have your moments.:)

Are we sure TTA is going to be down in Jan?

I was just thinking the same thing. Couldn't they just throw up some tarps/construction walls around SM's track portion and have a temporary announcement saying "Space mountain will be relaunching in 2010. Be sure to come back and experience this exciting flight through the galaxy,"?

I never saw anyone (Lee, Marni, Jedi) on here say that TTA was getting a major refurbishment. I thought it was just getting a light sprucing and would only have to be closed for part of SM's rebuild/refurb. Am I wrong?:veryconfu

The concensus is yes because the TTA runs through the mountain and disney would't want to give away refurb secrets AND more importantly they want the guests to be safe, so passing through a work zone is not an option for them.
Back to HoP: Will the attraction be more Lincoln-centric? As an Illinoisan myself, I know the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth is Feb. 2009. I also know the US mint is redoing the penny to celebrate this, and also I know that Lincoln was Walt's favorite president, so could Disney be doing this referb to celebrate that? Just my two cents...

As of now, don`t expect new cars or longer track for the TTA. A retheme yes. And it will have to close for a large portion of the SM rehab due to engineering work on the lift hill area.

But then how many detailed presidential AAs are you getting rid of?

...YES! The Country President Jamboree-- see your favourite Presidents croon along to country songs! ;)

Thanks marni!

I really don't think HOP and TTA being closed is going to upset much of the general public. More than likely, the only thing the average joe is going to care about is that Space Mountain is closed.

They added more photos at the end last summer to update it. And while the song is corny it fits the attraction. It runs every 45 minutes because its a 25 minute show and they need time to shuffle people in and out of the theater. I suppose they could rush it a little more but the theater his hardly ever full anyhow so why run it more frequently? I'd imagine it also has to do with timing it to other performances at the pavilion like the Voices of Liberty. I always have to see them sing on every trip even if i don't make it into the theater.

A new show (beyond those minor film updates) would (hopefully) create more interest in the show, making continuous operation more likely. I don't want them to run it continuously now; I want them to create an entirely new show that will be more popular (and yes, relevant to today's audience ) and THEN run it continously to fit the crowds of people wanting to see it in.

Philharmagic, Muppets 3D or any other theater show passes people through in mere minutes. You don't need twenty minutes of downtime between performances for things to run smoothly. It's just an unpopular attraction that I really hope is on the refurbishment slate very soon.

I saw somewhere else that it's supposed to be around July. Is that about right?

I'm dying to see a post about "how HOP being down will ruin their trip and how they might just cancel their trip all together because of it".:lookaroun

That settles it! I'm not going. My trip is ruined. How dare WDW they ruin my trip by closing HoP?

Funny thing-

For years we did not go to HoP because we found it boring.
Years.
Then on one trip we decided "OK. Let's give it another chance."
We walked up to the entrance where upon a CM dressed in colonial garb told us politely that the attraction was down for technical reasons.

The one time that we decide to grace HoP with our presence, it was down.
Bummer, dude.
Go figure.

:)

I think I've posted on this before, but I really hope they change the show around a little bit. As far as I'm concerned, as the show stands now they could easily rename it "Slavery, and how we overcame it." Slavery seems to be the main theme throughout the movie. As horrible as slavery was, it doesn't have to consume the premise of the film. There were in fact some other things in American History that happened. I think Disney is trying to be as P.C. as they can.

Nowonder you like going to the place of dreams, LOL! Anyone who thinks this country is going to elect another republican after what we just went through for the last 8 years is definitely in dream land.

Here, if McCain wins, I will pay for everyone on the wdwmagic.com boards to go to Disney World!

Careful...you might just get everyone here voting for McCain so we can all go to Disney on your tab!!!

Ugh, I really do hate it when Disney goes PC. Besides, what does slavery have to do with the presidents other than Abe Lincoln?

Valid question. In the earlier days of HOP, slavery wasn't addressed until you got to the Lincoln era in the film. Now they've thrown it in the earlier colonial section as well.

Again, on an attempt to be P.C. myself, I think slavery is awful but it's just thrown in your face so often at HOP now, when I'm watching it I feel like "Ok! I get it."

The fact that the Civil War was started over slavery is actually a misconception, it was only part of the issue. It was also about state power vs. federal power, which most of the Southern States (Confederates - A Confederation of states with a weak central government) supported more power to the state.

It turns out that through most of the war the nations of Europe supported The Confederates due to the amount of cotton the South provided for textiles in Europe along with other crops. It was not until Lincoln, in a very smart political move, issued the Emancipation Proclamation stating that slaves in the Southern states were freed thus making the war about slavery. BY that time in Europe almost every nation had abolished slavery so therefore they could not support the Confederates in their efforts to keep the institution of slavery.

Other than that there was arguments during the writing of the original Articles of Confederation (The United States First and failed first attempt at a constitution, it lasted a couple of years) and our current Constitution in which the Founding Fathers just decided to put provisions in to gently ween off the slave trade but not slavery itself, so early Revolutionary America has some things to do with slavery but not much.
