The Great Paper Napkin Watch

Do you know why they are brown? They are recycled paper...think about it.

The printed napkins that were just Disney Parks were brown with red print. They were probably made of recycled paper too. I hate a lot of the recycled paper napkins. They fall apart too easily and leave dust or little pieces behind. You end up using twice as many napkins so it defeats the "planet saving" intentions.

I know this is a bump but I thought I would report what I saw on my vacation/CP move in. So we were at Magic Kingdom and ate at Cosmic Rays and the napkins were brown. I didn't realize it until I saw a napkin and thought of this thread. I had already used a few napkins before I realized. After that thought I forgot about it until the next night. The next night we ate at Kona Cafe and the little napkins they use for cups still said Disney Parks. It was rather interesting because it appears it is the size of napkin that matters on if it is plain or has a logo. It led me to believe it might not be a choice Disney made but rather happend. I mean why would they still print the logo on some but not all napkins?

I noticed something similar about a month ago. The larger rectangular napkins were plain brown while the square napkins used for drinks had the logo. Possibly different suppliers? Maybe they have a lot more "old" inventory of the square napkins?

I originally heard the brown plain napkins were a distribution issue and would come back soon (we all know soon can be never or forever in Disney speak) so different distributers makes sense. I'm sure I won't even notice them after next week since I'll be in EPCOT so much since that's where I'm working now and the napkins will just start to look like nothing special haha.

Not to kick a dead horse, but at DLR last week, the only "Disney" napkins were the drink ones. All the ones at the restaurants were plain brown. They still had the red Mickey cups though.....

I'm all for a cleaner environment and if Disney were to come out and say that they were no longer printing on the napkins so they could be recycled I would be all for it. Now, we know that this is just another cheap cut back on their part. So, even if I give them the benefit of the doubt and say OK, why can't they emboss a picture of Mickey or the Castle on the napkins????? As another OP stated even cheap McDonlads embosses their logo onto their plain napkins.

No way. If I wanted to, I could have those napkins here (from China, which is where i am assuming they get them) in less than a month. And I''d have to find someone to make them first. All Disney has to do is shoot off an email, for Pete's sake.

It's not an issue of not being able to get them.

I know! I'm so sick of everyone making excuses as to why they don't have them. Distribution shortage, weather, truck couldn't make it, etc etc etc it's so BS!! Disney is cutting costs in any way they can.

That was probably me. I have a stack of McD's napkins here on my desk (I horde them for the occasions when the nimrod at the drive thru forgets to put them in the bag), and they are white with a repeating pattern of embosses arches.

Granted, as big as McD's is, they probably have their own napkin factory and cut costs by producing their own napkins in their Special Sauce/"Beef"/Napkin warehouse. Something WDW would have done 30 years ago :(

Brown is not really about recycled or not but is about being more Eco-friendly. Brown means they don't have to bleach the paper pulp. Recycled paper products also like to be Eco-friendly... Hence they prefer not to bleach things white.

But you can have brown paper products that aren't recycled. The color is not determinate.

Very true. When was the last time you saw a white pile of sawdust from wood?

Well Disneyland now seems to be suffering from the same 'generic food presentation' problem.

Let's see if the fabled DL fanbase will be up in arms about this, and if they will attack management over it instead of fellow fans who dare complain.

This just in......To save money, Disney Transport buses will just say, "Transport" on the side. Also, Disney to start using plain plastic bags. They will also be selling reusable "grocery bag" style bags. Be sure to bring them with you. Keep this in mind, they will have an RFID chip in them. You can only use them a few times before they disintegrate. If you pay just a tad more, they wont fall apart, however, the logo will fade and you'll be stuck with a plain bag. Hope this helps all of the information lovers out there.

BTW, @Bob Saget, when is the Full House reunion show? Will Stamos be plugging his Greek yogurt? Will Coulier show up so he can have a pay check? Will just one Olsen twin show up as that's all you need? I've got questions....I hope you have answers.
