The Great and Powerful Oz question.

For my part, I loved the original movie, and as for Wicked...well, I've never seen the stage show, but after reading the first few pages of the book, I heaved it into the trash... :D

You really threw a book away? Seriously?

I hope you were just being dramatic. You could have donated that to the Salvation Army or Goodwill if you didn't want it anymore. Heck, just leave it on a bus and let someone find it.

Never, ever throw any book away. It's so wasteful and deprives someone else of the chance to read it.

Maybe someone found it in the trash...

If you're going to do this...can you do a thread link? Otherwise, it's pointless ;)

This is something this poster likes to do to me...to say whatever I've said is already posted. S/He does not include a link, just takes that slap at me.

This was me seeing how it feels and returning some of that medicine.

I hope someone found it. But more than that, I hope before someone would throw a book into the trash that they'd donate it to someone or just leave it on a seat on the bus/train or on a park bench.

Maybe it's because my parents lived through the Great Depression, but I'm horrified by the thought of just throwing a book into the trash.

I don't think much of it. If someone wants to read, books are free at the library. Anyways...

It's shameful to waste something that's perfectly good. I hope that you're never at a point in life where you are destitute and in need of things that other people so casually chuck into the garbage. What decadence!

Yeah...I could still get books from the the library...

So anyways - I am excited for DL if this is indeed in the blue sky stage for them. I do hope that the movie does well. I think this is the type of movies/entertainment Disney does exceptionally well - fantasy, far away worlds, feel good movies. I think often when they try to get away from that formula, it backfires. And of course I am always hoping they have a fit movie that could be great inspiration for the parks..

Nobody remembers the other time Disney did Oz?

Count me as another person who liked Return to Oz. I appreciated the fact that it was darker and closer in tone to Baum's books. Some of the effects were also pretty well done for the time.

That being said, I saw it for the first time as an adult... I probably would have had a different impression of the movie had I seen it as a child.

I think the point is valid. Donating a book to the library, especially a book like Wicked, is much better than throwing it away, because that way the library can either A) put that book in circulation, freeing up money for other books/media or B) sell the book for revenue to buy new books/media.

They could also always dispose of it themselves, but there's a better chance it'll go to better cause if you donate it.

As someone that's been following the Disneyland Oz rumors, what I'm picking up as most likely is that the land will be built between Frontierland and Fantasyland. The Frontierland side could be set up with a Kansas prairie-style opening, and then you transition into the more Fantasy-ish city of Oz. If you ask me, this could actually be a pretty nice fit, but it would be the nail in the coffin for any real Frontierland expansion since such a land would likely consume the remainder of Frontierland's unused land.

If this were coming to Magic Kingdom, the arrangement would have to be revised since Liberty Square is occupying that area instead. But of course this is all speculation anyway.

Hi there! According to Entertainment Tonight who has been pushing this upcoming movie all week it is the story of how Oz came to be in the land of Oz and become the "great and powerful" - it's also the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West came to be....she wasn't always wicked and she wasn't always a witch....plus there is a bit of a love story in there. Not sure how but they mentioned it! So I guess you could say it's a prequel! :)

I think I must have missed something??? Everything I was saying came from ET so I guess I have missed something lol
Oh, just the part I highlighted is pretty much the summary I would give to anyone to ask what Wicked is about. Wasn't a knock against you at all :) ... I was just amused that at least some of the plot is going to focus on that (though I'd gotten that even from the trailers). Though they don't have the rights to Wicked (Universal does and will have a film out think 2014, as someone in the thread said) so I'm sure it'll be different. But still, obviously are trying to indirectly capitalize on the popularity of the Broadway show (both with that specific plot line and just with making above about Oz as a whole).
