I distinctly remember a refurb wall up in 1997 because I could not get my photo Op.

Cool stuff though...They should really bring it back.

Thats whats kinda ironic about the whole thing. I'm sure one of the reasons the monument was taken down was probably because it had the old logo on it. Now, we're seeing that lovely design making a reappearence in the park, from directional signs to fencing. Funny how the monument, if it was still there, would fit right in again, huh?

I can only assume since it was phased out from 1994 onwards slowly but surely (don`t mention the plaza paving!) it was decided it was out of place at the entrance. Funny how what goes around comes around.

Regarding the 1997 photo, I`m afraid I do have an explanation. That is a MKIV monorail. The photo may be copyright 1997, but was taken in 1982. I`d say end of September. The sculpture was late in arriving at the park - it was in position just in time for the opening. A close look will show no American Gardens covered stage, now Showcase entrance stores, the Seas plot is still dirt, and that the Centorium extention isn`t built, further placing the photo to at least pre 1985.

As an addition, I wasn`t sure, but it looks like that is the Stargate Restaurant extention being built - something being done around September 1982. Any chance of a larger sized pic?

Yep...What's even more odd is that roughly around the same time, signage was put with the EC symbol on it.

The Original EPCOT Fountain was removed in 1999 with the Millennium Additions to EPCOT and it's entry plaza.

With the addition of the Wand, stripes on the SSE legs, and LaL the futuristic and green look gave way to mirror LaL. The fountain now is made of the same marble that LaL is to give the plaza unified look. The stripes that mimic LaL on SSE are there for the same reason.

(Make it what you will, but if LaL needs THIIIIS much help being assimilated into a setting, it really has a problem)
I am surprised those stupid stripes on the legs of SSE are still there.

I believe it was sold as surplus. I think I remember that. (Wish I had it.)

Yes it was sold on ebay.

Yeah, they had it at MouseSurplus, and I got to TOUCH it!!!

I hope when they redo the entrance plaza like Martin has alluded to, that they install a new cool prism sculpture or something. With the EPCOT logo!

SirNim, I'm trying to decided whether I like your avatar or not. Creative, as always.

Nice!

How much did it end up selling for?
