We do the same thing.
There is a Lowe’s that marks plants down all the time.
The lilies that I posted were $1 each last year. We bought a bunch, red, yellow, orange.
Also, I bought flats of marigolds for $2.50 this year.
They just needed to be deadheaded.
They are healthy and beautiful.
I always shop the clearance areas at stores.

I used to have lots of beautiful lilies, then three years ago a menace came into my garden, a beetle that looks like it's painted with red lacquer, and it eats all of my lilies. 😥

2 of my spinach plants were growing well.. but now an animal dug into the ground near the roots, plants are falling over as a result. Should I add more dirt to stabilize them?

@Willmark , hoping your back issue has healed, and that you can return to your gardening.
I have been healing per the ladies admonishment here.

All of the fruit failed to root but everything else has done well outside of the lettuce. Bought more of that.

We got a great deal on trees. Four apple trees all 10 feet tall for $70 each! That’s a steal! and four black berry and blueberry bushes.

Are we allowed to send cuttings in the mail? I have so many "volunteers" ( because I'm really bad at deadheading) I'd be happy to share some Phlox, variety is David, a tall white mildew-resistant one, or some of my tall red monarda, and I have a giant hosta that has thrown off a lot of children 😁.

I've also got some rhubarb that needs dividing, and some catmint. And heirloom raspberries. They spread like crazy, but are biennial and take some management. Canes that grow this year will not fruit until next year and must be left Canes that requires this year need to be cut down in September. They are very flavorful.

Lettuce can be finicky. It needs to be sown very early. I've grown it successfully in the past but haven't done it in a few years. What kind did you plant?

Good to know, never tried lettuce.

Off hand I don’t remember which. I think as John Parkhopper noted it’s been too hot around here. Going to shoot for a September planting.

Update, the berries all failed from the starter shoots so we bought actual plants. Too hot to get them all in the ground today (humid). Trees will be by this weekend. As you can see almost everything is growing, including the weeds!

I have an area set aside for the next toad house that I’m letting the weeds grow up in. Some redesign to the bee area within the next week or so too.
