The Gaming Industry: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

In the UK physical sales were down 61% from the first game and it got beat in this weeks sales by Call of Duty WWII, a game on its third week. Considering it’s Star Wars this is about as much as you can ask for.

I’m happy. This teaches EA a very important lesson. Without all the controversy this game could’ve easily sold much better :)

In other news, is this just a coincidence? ;)

Edit: More on CD Projekt RED as well.

Wow those numbers are insane for BFII. I’ve decided to wait on buying it and so far have been able to hold out. Hopefully EA feels this for a while and the whole industry learns a lesson from it.

The sheep are finally waking up it seems. Those sales don’t account for digital but like the article said it’s unlikely digital would cover that much of a gap.

Edit: What stinks about this game potentially underperforming though is that it could mean DICE is not long for this world. You know how EA is.

Playing Battlefront 2 on Twitch the past few days and getting the most views and highest donations ever. Last night was my first night ever with over 1k views at one time.

Thanks EA, you might not be getting loot box revenue but you’re allowing me to make money for charity.

What’s your Twitch?

Edit: If sales trends in the U.K. are being followed by the rest of the world they’re not making much money at all ;)

Top brass at EA and other big publishers must be sweating bullets, especicially Activision-Blizzard after those disgusting patents they filed.

But that's impossible!!

Don't they know that games are too expensive to make because of teh grafixzz?? They NEED dodgy loot gimmicks!!

EA is in a really bad position now. I’ve seen one comment that says they hope Disney, FIFA, and the NFL cut ties with them over this crapstorm they've created.

I couldn’t agree more. I want to watch them burn for what they’ve done to the industry.

That would be HUGE. FIFA probably makes more off those "ultimate team" loot cards than actual discs sold.

Belgium said no such thing, the internet jumped the gun:

But in this video there is some really damning statements by the Hawaiian congressmen that has to have Disney cringing. I can honestly see Disney pulling the Star Wars license soon just to protect their own image. Linking children to gambling through Star Wars, thats not any kind of pub Disney wants right now weeks before their biggest movie release of the year.
