The Gaming Industry: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Yes but we still fight on. The game’s progression is still tied heavily to loot boxes.

They are definitely fighting in that reddit sub. That sub is now effectively the let's kill EA sub. Someone established a different sub just so people could discuss the game without being flamed. Although they are making their way there anyways.

After a week, people will forget about the whole EA/DICE loot box consortium and move on to a different topic. People will buy the game. People will buy the loot boxes. Watch the game get a huge holiday discount because ultimately EA wants the loot boxes sold, that's the true money maker.

Micro transactions are what the gaming community has evolved to, like it or not. I would personally love them to go away but its proven far too lucrative. Blame phone games, Facebook, Blizzard, they all deserve blame, but don't forget to blame the person actually buying them.

Me personally, if they increase my personal enjoyment to a game I like to play, I'll buy them without worry or shame.

Just cancel your preorders guys.

About a couple years ago I decided to never pre-order anymore, no matter how good it looks and its worked well for me.

Lately I even stopped buying around release day. If I have the will power to give it a couple months, the price almost always goes down a bit.

I blame both the companies and the people who buy them. There’s plenty of companies that don’t try these practices and are still able to make good money.

I just use Best Buy Gamer’s Club. 20% off all new games for two years for $30. I got it like two months ago and am already close to making back the $30. It’s such a steal lol.

Also Nintendo games don’t really go down in price like third party games so waiting would do nothing.

It's a great program, not available in Canada unfortunately.

I guess you could go with Amazon Prime but then you’d have to break your pre-order rule.

I do have Prime actually. It's quite useful for shipping, especially at the student price. The 20 percent is tempting, but I'm trying to stay in the habit of just waiting for the 2 month price discount.

Well, is there anyone you trust enough that you have no problem getting their games on day 1?

Our current options are deal with micro-transactions, pay $100 for a AAA title, or no more video games.

As a diehard Pokémon fan, I have never been so NOT excited for a new game release. Ultra Sun and Moon just look.... boring. I wanted either Sinnoh remakes or a new generation. I'd also kill for a new Mystery Dungeon game...

I have been playing Persona 5 to quench my RPG thirst in the mean time, filling the gaps with new releases on the Switch like Mario Odyssey and Doom.

There’s other gaming options besides AAA games from EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Take Two, and WB (the biggest offenders) you know. They’re not the be all end all of video games. Even within those companies there’s the occasional game that doesn’t have most or any of this junk with Crash Bandicoot for Activision being a great example.

What did you expect? Game Freak’s A Team is likely working on the already confirmed Pokémon for Switch.
