The Fountainview has a new purpose!

The Land, France, Norway? Let me see where can I currently get IceCream that's not frozen into a Mickey Shaped bar :veryconfu Nowhere that I can think of. So let's be happy we are getting something new that's not already offered.

Actually, they also serve scooped ice cream at The Land. Though arguably not as much of a selection as Fountain View will most likely have.

France, Norway - World Showcase isn't open until 1100 (too late for breakfast) unless its the character meals

That is the problem now. I still can't believe the confusing "9-7 but not everything, oh and that half doesn't open until 11, and the park is open until 9, but somethings close at 7 but in this half only, but not everything over here" timing would stop.

Since this place hasn't had a refit inside and has just added Ice Cream how do we know it's not going to sell the original line up of products plus Ice Cream? This would make sense as it could then have longer hours where as before it only opened mornings because I assume the place did nothing later in the day.

Hey, it's better than nothing. At least they're using the space...
I think it's a pretty good idea, I know we'll buy ice cream from carts every few hours, so maybe we'll try this next trip.

Yes, but that's a huge hassle for Guests.

I hope that WDI has better signage in the works for this area. The "Ice Cream" sign looks like it's straight out of Toontown.

Yep. Ice cream is a huge impulse buy throughout the day. And, with its proximity to Character Connection, you will likely have many kids coming in and out that beg for it. An espresso bar in the Florida heat next to a kid's spot sort of spells its own disaster, especially when there are better versions for the adults to be had across the lagoon.

While Fountainview had its great points, I think this is a good step overall.

Now, that sign certainly needs some help, but I have some faith that the permanent location will have more creative a title than "FountainView: ICE CREAM HERE!"

The test period for Fountain View: The Ice Cream Parlor will begin tomorrow (I'll be there for sure! :slurp: ). They will have hand-scooped ice cream, soda floats, and other ice cream treats.

Hopfully testing one of each...of course only for research, so you can report the findings to your friends at WDWMAGIC! :slurp:

Yup buy that's not in the park. That's like saying let's close the Ice Cream shop on main street and just offer it in the Contemporary Resort. :hammer:

Plus have you seen how busy Beaches & Cream is? It's not like I could just pop in like will be able to do in the park. It's a 10 min walk so 20mins return plus trying to get served takes 15mins at least so 35mins to get an ice cream? No thanks I will take a newly reopened Fountain View Ice Cream shop. :D

This is a great way to reuse the cafe without closing down the space for good. The only other ice cream stand around there is a cart right next to the pin station and you can get "wet" while standing in line there because of the mist coming from the fountain. I can see this becoming something permanent as long as they add some nice outdoor sitting areas.

I can't help wondering - why ice cream

Um, 'cause I've heard it gets kind of hot in Central Florida sometimes...

Sorry, couldn't help it...I will miss the coffee and pastries, but I am excited for the ice cream. There was actually an "episode" when I visited WDW with my parents in May 2005. It was about 7:30 at night and my dad was craving ice cream. All the carts were already closed, and until now, there wasn't any place to get "real" ice cream (like the Ice Cream Shop on Main St, and aren't there 2 places to get ice cream in DHS/MGM? I know the dinosaur has soft serve....anyway). My 50-year old Dad had a hissy fit because he wanted ice cream, quite the *amusing* meltdown.

He ended up paying $3 for a sundae crunch bar out of the machine on the long trek to the bus stop. He really had to have his ice cream. My mom and I were thoroughly amused.

Guess you had to be there :D

So, pardon me for asking, where exactly is the Fountainview located in Future World? Is it near Communicore East or Communicore West?

I say this because as of Aug. 19, today, Sunday, it has been 14 years, yes FOURTEEN YEARS, since I last visited Walt Disney World.

As well, was the Fountainview just the "Fountainview"? If this is sort of "new" since post-August 1993, what used to occupy that space?

Oh, and by the way, I will be finally making my return trip to WDW this fall, in October. So, in about 60 days or so, it will be 14 years and TWO months away from the mouse house.

So, does anyone know what used to house Fountainview before it was "Fountainview"?

I, too, am gald to see this area reopened, but I will miss those pastries. France just doesn't open early enough for breakfast.

It's difficult to eat breakfast in EPCOT early in the morning.

Years ago, when WS opened the same time as all of EPCOT, we would go back to the bakery in France.
Now WS doesn't open early.

Later, we would have breakfast at the Garden Grill.
That was really great.
Now they don't have breakfast at the Garden Grill anymore.

EPCOT needs more breakfast places for ordinary (non-princess) guests.

Tks.

I am actually really surprised that the pastries haven't started appearing in carts. I would think that trays of sweets would easil lend itself to this type of sale, and that would be a very small cost compared to an entire restaurant for the morning. It wouldn't solve the issue of getting eggs, bacon, or other items, but it would be easy to grab a croissant, pastry, donut, or other quick bite. Heck, they could even do a waffle stand!
