The fate of "Journey Into Imagination"?

Not quite. The Chinese are a bit different about the subject of death than we are, and to have a house full of ghosts would be completely tasteless to them.

So Disney turned it around...it's still a creepy old house, but instead of 999 Happy Haunts, we get a "Ripley's Believe it or Not!" style museum, where all of the artifacts come to life when the curator's pet monkey opens Pandora's Box. It's an amazing attraction in its own right...especially since it's scored by Danny Elfman.

That is freaking amazing...but I still prefer our Haunted Mansion...

Figment isn't taken advantage of nearly enough in Epcot in general, he's such a beloved charater for so many of us. He's sort of the official character of Epcot to me (sorry Duffy, you just don't cut it).

I agree with everyone that this attraction is due for some much needed attention, but that being said, it's honestly still a must-do attraction for me because there is virtually no wait to get my Figment fix.

I loathe Duffy. In part, because he was Figment's pathetic replacement, but he also has a crappy back story, and a basic teddy bear, really??? for EPCOT? They couldn't imagine anything better? (Oh, they already did, his name is Figment!)
They need to put it all back the way it was... but updated and newer/better effects. End of story.;)

Just walking into this pavilion makes me feel out of place, I hope the refurb goes well. I hope Figment stays. I also hope that they integrate newer technology to create a wild imagination that is fun and exciting, and not to have figment as a pest.

If Eric Idle burst into your house, destroyed your possessions and took a dump on your kitchen floor, wouldn't you be a pest to him?

Figment may be annoying in the current ride, but I'd say he's in the right.

.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason the four other surviving Pythons don't really have anything to do with him these days....

They made it for Tokyo DisneySea and it was insanely popular in Japan so Disney decided to introduce him everywhere... in Epcot, Disney California Adventure, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris... But it's unusual that Disney would introduce a new character...

...since Disney hates Figment and Dreamfinder because they aren't the Fab 5, Disney Princesses, Pirates, or some other sort of Disney franchise.

The Imagination ride has underwent all these problems because Disney doesn't like attractions that aren't:

  1. Based on intellectual property (IP) or a franchise - Ex. Mickey's Philharmagic, Toy Story Mania!, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular!
  2. A thrill ride - Ex. Soarin', Tower of Terror at Tokyo DisneySea, Rock'n Roller Coaster without the Aerosmith music playing
  3. A thrill ride based on intellectual property (IP) or a franchise - Ex. The Barnstormer, Radiator Springs Racers, Star Tours

Kinda not true at all. Figment and Dreamfinder are more Disney then most of the others that come from the stories and books of other people, not associated with Disney. Besides, they were under contract with Kodak to change the attraction over time to keep it current. Since Kodak paid a huge amount of money to support the building and operation of the pavilion they just changed it. Chalk it up as an Epic Fail, before that expression was popular.

The rest of the post 1 - 2 - 3 I'm afraid that I do not understand any of what you are saying. It's not that I agree or disagree, I just have no idea what you are trying to say. Yes, that could be me completely, but I have to admit I do not.

Disney nowadays pretty much is obsessed with building either attractions based on successful franchises or thrill rides...

I understand Figment is an original Disney character but he originated in the theme park. Some people are going to Disney expecting everything to be Disney Princess and Mickey Mouse...

And others are going to Disney expecting every ride to be a Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith or a Sum of All Thrills...

And Disney is catering to both.

Disney needs to stop freaking out whenever a franchise is popular for a few months. They get so carried away. While I love Pixar, I'm so tired of those films being the only things I ever see anymore. literally all merchandizing in done for Brave, Cars, Princesses, and Pirates. It's too much and I just want it to be less about them

I would love to meet Dreamfinder outside the pavilion again! I was there two days ago and it was DEAD. Not a soul near the jumping fountains, no one in line for JII, horribly heartbreaking.

I know how you feel. Every shop is basically just Princess and Mickey merch now...

Can they at least shine up the glass pyramids and paint it blue and purple again? Kodak isn't sponsoring anymore so they don't need their colors! lol

Well, unfortunately, no one goes to theme parks for original characters anymore. Everyone wants some form of familiarity and to feel like they're in their favorite movie or TV show now. I think we can thank Universal for that.
