I'm really hoping the upcoming reboot goes back to the Figment and Dreamfinder basics. Would be a great way for TDO to buy back some much needed goodwill.
Here's the problem. We as avid fans are not exactly the majority of WDW guests. We remember the original Imagination, but, it has been at least one, if not two, generations since it was in it's glory. Very few of todays guests have ever seen it and just as many have never heard of it.
It would cost Disney millions of dollars to put it back and the only "goodwill" they would get would be that of us. The avid, long time fan. Not that many in the scope of things. Even we have to remember back to what actually happened. Journey had lost it's appeal to many of us. We stopped going there. I'll guarantee you that if the attraction had been as popular as HM or PoC it would still be there and Kodak would never have insisted that it be changed, as per their contract agreement. Journey is a classic example of we didn't realize what we had until it was gone.
If Disney were to spend that much money to redo the attraction, they might just as well dig into their own imaginations and come up with something new that would be equally awesome. Those of us that were lucky enough to have seen it in it's original form are then relegated to our memory. We saw it and you didn't...nanar, nanar, nanar!
It is my opinion that we are remembering it better then it actually was anyway. The beginning with Dreamfinder and Figment along with that song, "One little Spark", was the highlight in my memory...I think that I found the rest somewhat boring.
Our memories are always better then our realities, thus our Imagination at work.
I just wish that they re-imagine it with something spectacular, not on the cheap, that will serve to restart Epcot to the greatness that it once was. It doesn't have to be the same, just good.
