The fate of "Journey Into Imagination"?

Figment isn't taken advantage of nearly enough in Epcot in general, he's such a beloved charater for so many of us. He's sort of the official character of Epcot to me (sorry Duffy, you just don't cut it).

I agree with everyone that this attraction is due for some much needed attention, but that being said, it's honestly still a must-do attraction for me because there is virtually no wait to get my Figment fix.

Mark my words. We will NOT get the original back in its original form. It just won't happen. Sure, we got the Tiki Room back but reprogramming bird AA's is different than completely rebuilding a ride essentially from scratch. However, I DO have hope for a return of DreamFinder and something SIMILAR to the original attraction. I want something new but with that hint of nostalgia for the original ride. Something that is a good mix of modern technology and familiar "Disney magic." Let's hope TDO comes through...for once...

We need time for things to happen.

I couldn't agree with you more! They really have something with a super likable ORIGINAL character that originates from the ride | attraction! Something you hardly see anywhere else or at least not to this level.

I honestly wouldn't mind if it wasn't a scene for scene the original ride, as a matter of fact I think they could do something pretty amazing with technology that is miles away from when this ride first appeared, use Figment (and dreamfinder) in a prominent purposeful manner and make both nostalgic WDW geeks like us and the average guest more than happy without too much effort.

It's really not that hard, it's just that we know how complacent the powers that be have become and we always hope for the best and always seem to get the worst.

I'm sure Disney is using the excuse that it's a fire hazard to open the second floor. Then my question is: Why did they build it in the first place??! I'm just tired of Disney making excuses for being lazy and closing attractions, restaurants, etc and leaving them to rot in their skeleton. This is another Horizons waiting to happen.

This attraction definitely needs an update. I just wish they would change up the smell lab. Can't they have a GOOD smell in there once in a while...and what IS it with Disney and nasty smells? Between the skunk smell in EPCOT's Imagination, the Stink Bug smell in Animal Kingdoms It's Tough To Be a Bug, and The Chili Cheese Dog in Stitches Great Escape in The Magic Kingdom, not to mention all the sweaty, smelly tourists, I need alot more GOOD smells like the Main street Bakery smell. :)

I started going to Epcot in 1982 when it first opened and I miss the original Epcot so much. JII was fantastic. I still remember the song as sung by Dreamfinder; in fact my brother and I would do a whole routine at family gatherings where he would wear his Figment hat and I would dress up like the Dreamfinder and we would perform the opening scene of the ride (I know, we were Disney geeks). I loved all of the imaginative scenes and how cute Figment was in each one. Image Works was also awesome. My sibs and I never wanted to leave. And Magic Journeys - great song and show; I even loved the Kodak Pre-show and the "Making Memories" song.
Let's not forget the wonderful World of Motion, Horizons, Wonders of Life pavilion, and the original Living Seas (I loved the preshow). Oh and Kitchen Caberet in the Land.
Haven't thought about it much until now but Future World is really not as good any more.
Now, I am going to go listen to my original Epcot album and relive the good old days.

Well, it is a handy excuse, and it does have limited handicap access, but it did have access, maybe just not enough elevator space. Besides the fact that every sign I have ever seen clearly states the "in case of fire do not use the elevator" so they would be in danger in any building anyplace.

If I were to guess, as Imaginations popularity started to decline (which it did) Imageworks was a very expensive area to run. It required a lot of man power and had very little obvious return. I think it just proved to be unable to support itself so when they had the opportunity to shut it down, that's what they did. I don't see it coming back ever. This is another Horizons that has already happened, they just didn't knock it down. It is to big a space to leave empty. They can hide the old WoL pavilion behind a lot of planters, they cannot do that with Imagination Pav. It has a lot of room and place to make it a really good attractions again, but they would be wasting their time to think that they could ever duplicate the original enough to make people happy.

Very true. Wonders of Life was another one of my favorite pavillions as a kid.

Just went on this today.... Walked right in and sat down. The cast members seemed genuinely surprised to see me.

Can't wait til the Imagination Institute is gone for good. Hopefully they will renovate the topside and put in a new elevator to comply with ADA.

Remember... Imagination needed more track with its old ride system, with todays new system they can cram allot of the original ride onto that track, but the line on the other hand could be a nightmare.

I can take or leave the ride as it is (although the Imageworks sucks) but I do find it irritating how the one part of Epcot that really spoke to me, and inspired me the way Epcot is supposed to got changed up so much.
I mean, from a technical stand point the other attractions were pretty impressive but when I was six, a ride about energy didn't do it for me. Neither did a ride about how the world sucked until GM came and invented the car. (World of Motion) but a ride about a magic man and his cute talking dragon showing me different colorful ways to use the imagination? Now that was something my six year old mind could get behind. Just a shame that the one ride in Epcot that stood out to me as a kid got changed up so much
