My sister showed me this today and I about fell out of my chair!!

First off, dont read any further if you dont want too know any spoilers pertaining to the ending of the movie!!!

You ready??? Ok, good

This was on moviemistakes.com underneath the trivia section on Pirates 3...

According to the article:

"Despite what seems to be indicated in the film, the captain of the Dutchman is not cursed to do that job for eternity. The scenes about the specifics of the curse were cut from the final version. The captain of the Dutchman must do the job for 10 years at a time, coming ashore on his one day every 10 years. If the captain's true love is waiting for him when he returns, his bond to the ship is severed and he can leave being captain and live with his love on land. (all of this is confirmed by Mr. Elliott and Mr. Rossio in the forums at wordplayer.com)."

Heres the link to the article... http://www.moviemistakes.com/film6773/trivia

This too me is awesome, and makes total sense in my opinoun. Dont know if this is what the makers want you to believe, but if Mr. Elliot and Mr. Rosio said this, then I guess I'll take it as the ending...I love it!!!

I figured this out the second time I saw it. I think Tia Dalma vaguely mentions it in the movie.

It makes sense that it is that way. They can't (in my opinion) have Will and Elizabeth separated forever, especially if they wanted to do a 4th.

That doesn't make any sense though because Bootstrap says the Flying Dutchman must always have a captain. So where does this new captain come from?

Nowhere because the curse is lifted, due to the long lost love being there waiting for him after 10 years.

I asked this in another thread and got no answer.

If the Dutchman's curse is lifted by the captain joining his true love, then who ferries the souls of those who died at sea? If the job is so crucial that the Dutchman MUST have a captain to do it, then who does it after the Dutchman goes away?

Yeah, here here! I guess people will have to just start being more careful at sea now, won't they!

I replied on the other thread...and someone said it above...the curse on the Dutchman is broken, so no one is bound to be captain the Dutchman...but if someone offerred you a part time job being the captain of a ship that can fully submerge itself under water and leave you completely dry when you emerge again...I'd take it for minmum wage for sure!

i think she did
i think that's what Davy and Tia were talking about when Tia was in the brig...
"why were you gone" "'tis my nature"

this would make so much sense
but they need to dumb it down a little more and make it slightly more obvious for the emotionally charged like me  I cried so much whenever they cut out his heart and then again for the final scene.

I don't see how that really answers the question. Essentially, what you just stated is the reason behind the question.

Your point is that no one has to do it anymore. Got that. But doesn't the job still have to be done, even if no individual is required to do it? Sounds like you're saying they'd have to find a volunteer captain.

Edit: I see your reply on the other thread now. That makes sense. I slept in and this was the first one I stumbled into today. ;)

If Calypso gave him the job in the first place, maybe she was the one doing it previously. Besides she has plenty of time in between storms!!:ROFLOL:

Uh, yeah...the green flash of light kinda' gave it away, don't you all think.
Good point.

I want to know what the kid will be called, I thought at first perhaps it would be another William (two generations already, might as well keep it going) but now I think maybe he'll be named in memory of Elizabeth's father (his name escapes me at the moment though....)
