Hallelujah Trails at Avatar-Land

Yes, I hate that Avatar-Land exists, and I hate it even more for the fact that it's called Avatar-Land and not Pandora. Fact is though, the land is here to stay, and all we can do is hope for the best, especially with Joe Rhode's involvement.

I wanted to do something for every major land at Animal Kingdom, and the most logical expansion I could think of for Avatar would be to create a walk through attraction much in the style of the park's other "trails", but featuring the fantastical wildlife and ecosystem that Avatar made famous.

The trail starts at the base of the land's visual icon, which is the floating mountains of Hallelujah. (Don't blame me for the name...were talking about the same film that introduced the world to Unobtainium...) The first few stretches of the trail afford killer panoramic photo ops for the Weenie from a large variety of different angles you can't normally get when not on the trail.

We then turn a corner and see a destroyed mech suit as well as remains of a futuristic rifle, evidence of the military's presence on Pandora. Afterwards, we enter a cave and see a variety of Pandora's smaller creatures in AA form.

We then exit the cave and come upon a cliff with a couple large dragon-like creatures lurking about, the same creatures the Na'vii flew in the movie.

"The Jungle Beat!" A Swingin' New Jungle Book Show for Animal Kingdom's "Asia".

It's time for a bit of a personal history lesson. On top of being a huge fan of cinema, animation, Disney, and theme parks, my other major love in life is music. This didn't start right away though. For a lot of my preteen years I dismissed the entire art form because of the terrible pop songs that were polluting the airwaves in the late 90's and early 2000's.

It wasn't until I spent my allowance money on this little beauty that my appreciation for music as a whole began to show. This was the weekend before my Freshman year of high school, so nostalgia runs very deeply.

After going through the rest of the Beatles catalogue over the course of the rest of the year, I soon grew restless and wanted to know what else was out there in the music world. This is where a friend at the time time introduced me to the "ska" genre. To those who don't know, ska is the combination of reage and rock, mostly built on incredibly high energy songs which use a wide variety of horns and trumpets to give the genre its unique and lasting sound.

What's more, I found out that the genre originated right in Disneyland's backyard of Orange County, California. Ska has a huge influence on Southern California culture, with a ton of well known bands including Reel Big Fish, The Aquabats, No Doubt, and Streetlight Manifesto originating from the area.

Here's a collection of a few Ska songs for reference. I highly recommend checking out these bands in full if you like what you hear!







The reason I'm bringing Ska up in the first place is because this is the genre of music that will be taking over a brand new stage version of The Jungle Book. Out of all the Ska concerts I've been too, one particular song shows up on almost every single set, and that song is "I Wanna Be Like You".

The influence of The Jungle Book in general on the genre cannot be understated, and this song essentially served as a stepping stone to the sound the genre would eventually come to inherit. With the film itself being a key touchstone in the history of the genre, I only thought it appropriate to design a stage show which brings Ska back to one of its core roots.

The "Flights of Wonder" stadium will be demolished, and the show on a smaller scale will live on at Ellie's Conservation Station. In its place will be a recreation of King Louie's Palace, another strong visual icon to add to the park's growing quickly growing list of Weenies.

The show will be a quick, 15 minute burst of energy featuring a live ska band performing the songs and costumed characters filling out the on stage roles. The emphasis will be heavily placed on the music over the story.

Of course "I Wanna Be Like You" and "The Bare Necessities" will be the big show stoppers, but there will also be ska covers of the elephant marching song, "Trust In Me", and "My Own Home".

The Jungle Beats promises to be an incredibly energetic stage show for the park, and a loving tribute to both a musical genre highly connected to Disney as well as one of the studio's most popular and iconic classics. ​

As @orlando678- said I believe the land is officially going to be called "Pandora: The World of Avatar" not "Avatar-Land". Avatar land is just what everyone calls new expansions because of Cars Land at DCA. I pretty sure Star Wars Land is not going to be official name of that either but I cant be certain on that as it is far to early to make any predictions for that. Opinions on the movie Avatar are varied but I will say that the land is shaping up to be spectacular and a fantastic addition to DAK even without knowing much of the details on rides and restaurants located there.

I mean...I'm not totally negative on the idea. I think the IP itself actually connects well to the park due to its wildlife conservation message...frankly I just don't think the IP has a ton of staying power. Highest box office gross ever or not, when ANYONE thinks of Avatar, the thing that almost instantly comes to mind is how cliche the plot is.

There's virtually no memorable characters or set pieces that stand out, what's lasted in the pop culture landscape is the fact that the film is essentially Dances with Wolves/Ferngully/Pocahontas with giant Smurfs. Cameron taking F-O-R-E-V-E-R to do the sequels certainly isn't helping matters, though I believe once a sequel is finally released it can potentially be awesome as long as the plot isn't as cookie cutter as the first film.

Disney's "One Sky" Parade

Yes, I fully admit I'm taking the title of this parade from a popular Kingdom Hearts quote, because frankly I couldn't think of anything better, and the idea of many different societies being inherently connected is the base premise for my parade, so I felt the title fit.

With Mickey's Jamming Jungle Parade now retired, the park could use for a new one. This parade will almost entirely drop the character aspect of Jamming Jungle, and instead focus on the different culture present in Animal Kingdom.

Each float will represent a different country within the park's landscape. The floats will be elaborately designed and will carry performers of said countries nationality performing traditional dances from that country. Arts and crafts as well as puppets of the country's native animals will also be present.

The floats will include...

-Kenya
-South Africa
-Egypt
-India
-Pandora with a giant "Home Tree" as the finale.​

The New "Dino Institute"

Get ready kids, it's backstory time! Without a doubt the land in Animal Kingdom that has the most unexplored potential is Dino Land, which is why I'm saving it for last. Let's face it, in the current incarnation it's a huge mis mash of the realistic science angle of the Dino Institute with the...off the shelf carnival blandess of Chester and Hesters.

Make no mistake, Chester and Hester will NOT be receiving the Good Dinosaur treatment. The comet WILL hit them, and they will die a long, drawn out, painful, and fiery death...with fire! Did I mention it would be painful ;) :p

The land itself will be entirely rebranded as "Dino Institute", and will take on the apperance of a plesant college campus (think Pixar Studios) on the outskirts of a large primevil looking jungle. All the buildings will have a sleek and friendly looking design.

The only holdover from Chester and Hester's will be Triceratops Spin, which will be relocated to the middle of the land and made to look like a large, mobile statue. Dumbo style fountains will also be added to the base of the spinner, giving it a more kinetic look. The attraction is staying simply because DAK is already severely lacking in attractions that cater to very young children.

Speaking of attractions for kids, The Boneyard will also be kept but updated with more Dino Institute references. This is one of the most highly acclaimed "playground" areas in any Disney park and it'd be a shame to have it go to waste.

"Dinosaur" will be renamed back to "Countdown to Extinction and will remove any and all references to Disney's Dinosaur film, including the Aladar statue out front. General lighting/painting and AA upgrades will complete the transition, as well as a storyline that ties directly into the new Dino Institute attraction which we'll get to in my final presentation.

Finally, Lucky the Dinosaur makes her return, this time minus the cheesy looking push cart! Lucky is the first free-roaming AA Disney ever created, and with the lack of the cart her movements will now be more convincing than ever. The storyline is that Lucky is the first dinosaur rescued by the Dino Institute and brought into modern times, now serving as an unofficial mascot.

Now let's get into the backstory. The mythology of the Dino Institute being a scientific organizing devoted to going through time to rescue dinosaurs from extinction will be preserved, but expanded upon.

Essentially the Dino Institute campus serves as a research vessel for studying the dinosaurs that the Institute has saved. Tourists are welcome, but this is definitely more of a "zoo" type set up rather than the more "theme park" set up depicted in the Jurassic Park films.

Speaking of Jurassic Park though, one element of the sequels will serve as inspiration for my new ride, and that element is Isla Sorna, the island from Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 which served as Ingen's dino breeding grounds before they're sent to Isla Nublar, the island from the first film and Jurassic World.

Breeding is out of the question here, but what the forest at the edge of the Institute I hinted at acts on is as close to a prehistoric "natural habitat" as the Institute has managed to recreate. They are far more about preserving the dinosaurs than showing them off, so most of the dinosaurs that the Institute has rescued over the years will take refuge here, and as mentioned before it will also serve as the setting of the land's premier new attraction.

Ah yes, now we finally come to the grand finale of my Animal Kingdom additions. My basic logic for this new attraction is really simple. While Countdown to Extinction is certainly one of the most well done attractions in the park, no one can argue it's not the most family friend experiences in Disney's wheelhouse. That's where this attraction comes in. Primordial River is a boat ride through the natural primeval forest habitat mentioned earlier, and will serve as the premier family experience of Dino Institute. Now kids will finally have a dinosaur attraction of their very own without the scares of something like Countdown to Extinction or Jurassic Park River Adventure.

The attraction will be a slow, ten minute raft ride through the prehistoric environment. Strictly speaking, only herbivores exist here. The Dino Institute knows better than to bring a predator back in time. Oh those silly folks at InGen don't know what the hell they're doing!

Guests will pass by about twenty fully scale AA dinosaurs, including brontosaurus, stegosaurus, triceratops, Parasaurolophus, and Ankylosaurus. The scenes will feature a variety of natural occurrences such as egg hatching, feeding on trees, and large herds coming together...



The big finale of the attraction comes when...shocker...something goes wrong and it turns out that the Institute accidentally brought a Carnasaurus back through time which is now causing havoc on the forest. Guests pass through several scenes of destruction such as the footprints as well as claw marks and trees being torn down. Why did it get sent back?

The carnasaurus reveals himself creeping out from behind a large hill, making for a less intimidating appearance then in Countdown to Extinction. We then see two Time Rovers drive up and a bright flash appears. The dinosaur then retreats behind the hill, seemingly vanishing back into the prehistoric period where it belongs! ​

The wife and kids are out of town for the next few nights, there is beer chilling in the fridge, The Future World Sountrack Series is all queued up, and I’ve got a whole night ahead of me to get digging into these here ideas. It seems like there is a whole lot of greenlighting going on at WDW these days if certain insiders can be believed (wait, one of them is a fellow judge?!?). Uh oh, better shut up and start reading through some of these ideas before @marni1971 talks to people who know things and has me banned from property! I'm sure if anyone from Disney found my manifesto, I'd be on thin ice anyway...

The whole structure of the project would definitely work well in a live reveal format, because we can take the time to milk each and every "Will this attraction get green lit???" and make it super suspenseful! ;)
