Nicole, please do not call it by that unless you want me to have a SSE related heart attack. Trust me I puke inside my mouth everytime someone calls it that. :hurl:
 Sorry. If I say SSE to my dad, he won't know what the heck I'm talking about. He only knows it as the big golf ball.

I only call it that around my family, I swear! :lookaroun

I think most people outside of Disney forums would respond more to "big golf ball" than Spacship Earth, after all it is a very accurate description of how SSE looks.

The Big Golf Ball?

Does anyone call it the Geodesic Sphere?

"Buckminster Fuller's Geodesic Domes

Visionary and designer, poet and engineer, R. Buckminster Fuller believed that we must work together as a crew if we are to survive on our planet, "spaceship earth." How did the dreams of a genius turn into a Disney World attraction?"

You beat me to it. I was reading thru this thread & when I saw... . . .. "The Big Ball", the words Geodesic Sphere instantly popped into my head. I think it is deplorable for anyone to call it...... . .. . "The Big Ball". I had a hard time just typing those words.

I just giggle & laugh at the person when I hear them say "the big ball" or the "golf ball" at Epcot - knowing they have no idea what they are really talking about.

I just shrug, laugh, and go on my merry way having my "Magical Disney Day"!

wow - I just rhymed and didn't plan to! haha:lol:

But seeing those pictures - brings a tear to my eye - Oh Happy Day - Spaceship Earth is back to it's GLORY!:sohappy:

Wow, I didn't know my joking statement about the "big ball" would cause a little uproar. Like jmvd20 said, not everyone at WDW is a Disney freak like all of us here. I hear people mess up the names of rides all the time, and all I do is giggle and move on...

It's about time The Ladder was gave a proper home I'm sure it would fit well inside SSE. I haven't seen it in awhile I wonder if its on vacation at one of the other resorts? Nicole, please do not call it by that unless you want me to have a SSE related heart attack. Trust me I puke inside my mouth everytime someone calls it that. :hurl:

What Ladder?

I missed seeing the starless, craneless SSE by just a few days. Sad, but I guess I should be proud that I was one of the last people to see SSE with stars (not that I like them in any way)!

I recall many years ago looking at some architecture books and stumbling upon a book about Buckminster Fuller. At the time I had never heard of Fuller, but as I flipped the through the book I was amazed with the various SSE looking geodesic domes that predated SSE. And then was further amazed that he coined the term "Spaceship Earth." I always thought it was "odd" that Disney constantly showed Ray Bradbury when talking about EPCOT Center in the early years but Fuller really derved a bit of credit but I never recall them ever mentioning him.

As "we go on " is playing(seems fitting), that is one beautiful site!!!! Maybe this means just once we go to disney and there isn't a crane in site?? Not Magic Kingdom , not Epcot, not Animal Kingdom......Its a dream come true!!! Well one can hope!!!

great pics !!!!

Yeah, it probably is too early to get excited about there being no cranes. Isn't Cinderella Castle up next for some work (lights or something)?
