Even my kids understand that. My mother in law saved some of her favorite ones
Sure, but from what I can tell you are still living in the "do it yourself" 1960's. My parents had bound books of RD "Condensed". I read a few, but was just more aware of them than anything. I'm pretty sure that if I were to ask my kids (in their mid 40's) they would just look at each other and wonder if it were time to put the old man in a home.

All the men in my household are upset, and think this whole thing is being over reacted to. I don't think that. I don't understand the mass rush out to the store for hand sanitizer. Soap and water works fine. Aerosol cleaners are scarce in my house. Although, I guess they are quicker, rather than a bucket of sudsy water. People clean differently nowadays.

I am just a couple of years older than your girls, and had Reader’s Digests to read in school and in doctor offices. They were actually fun to read.

Good morning I watched Frozen 2, made my coffee and pancakes for the guys so they can just pop them in the toaster oven when they get up. I may make them eggs to go with them. what have you guys been up to this morning?
Good morning! I took my daughter to McDonalds. She'll be a cashier today from 8am to 3:30pm. Then I went to Shop Rite to get 5 items. I overheard one supermarket employee say that when she arrived at 5:30am to prepare the store for its 6am opening, there were approx. 50 people in line on the sidewalk. I'll be going to 11am church in a couple of hours.

My poor attempt at humor adapted to Sonny and Cher's "The Beat Goes On" you can boo if don't like

The virus goes on, the virus goes on
Hysteria keeps pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da
Sanity was once the rage, uh huh
Fear has turned the page, uh huh
The coronavirus is the current thing, uh huh
And the virus goes on, virus goes on
Hysteria keeps pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da
The grocery store's the supermarket chain, uh huh
People not shopping smart uh huh
And men still keep on marching off to the store
So they can keep buying more
And the virus goes on, the virus goes on
Hysteria keeps pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da
Grandmas sit in chairs, coronavirus scares
Boys stopped chasing girls to get a kiss
The virus keeps a going faster all the time
And the virus goes on, the virus goes on
Hysteria keeps pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da
And the virus goes on, yes, the virus goes on
And the virus goes on, and the virus goes on
(on, on, on, on)

With all the bread flying off the shelves and people worried about being quarantined in their houses what's the flour status in the stores. Do people not know how to make bread any more, will certainly have plenty of time stuck in your house. The wife makes bread-- nothing better than a fresh loaf of bread out of the oven warm and a stick of butter.
No flour at our grocery store, but they haven't had it for weeks, even before all the panic buying. I wanted to get some 2 weeks ago and couldn't. What's weird is that most people here don't bake. A lot of people don't even have an actual oven. So I have no idea why all the flour is gone....they must be having some sort of production issue with flour. There are signs everywhere in the store about not being able to be fully stocked the way it usually is, but most things were available. There was toilet paper today, though I already had some, so I didn't need any. I also went to the store less than half an hour after they opened, so that might be why they weren't out of things. They WERE out of the pizza my son likes, so I hope my husband finds that at a different store. And I had to buy the expensive brand of the ontbijtkoek (kind of like gingerbread, but more healthy) because they were out of the store brand. But I got everything else.

And now the school board has decided to close all the schools under their jurisdiction, so my daughter doesn't have school, but they are looking into elearning. I haven't heard anything about my son's school yet. The government is meeting as we speak to decide whether all schools should close. So he may or may not have to go to school tomorrow.

It's strange....the Dutch CDC (RIVM) has been updating the confirmed cases and yesterday it was at 959, but I guess today, they said 6000 people have it, but most cases are so mild that they aren't going to the doctor, so they aren't on the map. So where do they get that number? I'm so confused.

I'm in my early 40s and I use the phrase "Readers Digest Condensed version" quite a bit. Your kids might know more than you think they do.

I don’t think the medias agenda is to make people more at ease unfortunately.
I feel like we're getting mixed messages. Like, first they said that people under 50 didn't really need to worry about it, and teenagers don't really get it, so they don't need to close schools. But then they canceled my daughter's trip to London...a bunch of teens, who are supposedly not at risk. Then they said they GET it, but it's mild and they don't really feel it much. But now they are saying that's exactly why we need to close schools....because they won't necessarily stay home if they just have a slight cough, but then they could spread it to people who have a lot of contact with people in high risk groups without even knowing they ever had it. Not to mention that with schools, it's not just kids, but also teachers...some of whom fall under high risk. But all the health professionals are pleading with the government to close schools to prevent the spread, and the government says closing schools won't help. If health professionals say it will help, what expertise does the prime minister have that overrides that? And about that people under 50 don't need to worry....another health official said that more than half of the people in ICUs are under 50. So which is it? And they also said the youngest patient in an ICU is 16...and one person in ICU is a marathon runner and has always been really healthy, but now he is in ICU. So it's NOT just older people and people with immune system issues? I don't know who to believe. I'm certainly not panicking, but I don't get where they are getting their numbers as all of them seem different.
