I like daylight savings in the summer. The weather is so nice and it allows dh to enjoy some daylight and go outside when he gets home at 6. Studies have also been done that show that there is increased depression when there is more darkness.

Wait,... more concrete defenses because of the occupation or before it was occupied? The underground hospital is cool! We have some structures underground but not many.

Busy day/week/month ahead, but wanted to mention:

The new location of the old store finally took off last month. We went from being about 25% down from the year before in August and September (which was already down from the previous year) to up an amazing 50% from the previous year in October (after we hung the temporary banner pending "real" sign installation.)

This did not affect the other location, which was also up around 50% from the previous year. (Was last October really bad? LOL.)

Not counting chickens, sometimes there is a temporary interest in a new place that will not sustain over time. But I am very relieved that we weren't down again, and that things seem to be clicking. Part of the increase (about 20% at one store and 10% at the other) was one guy from Mexico who comes once a year at different times and loads up to sell them there. But we are definitely seeing an influx of new faces at the new location, and seeing more mainstream and younger-skewing SKU's moving, which was lacking at the previous spot.

It's really good. (No jinx!!)

The official grand opening with ribbon cutting, city officials, etc. is 11/22, and then Black Friday is a week later. We have a lot to get done to spruce and fill things up by then, so I'm busy busy!

And I didn't want to tarnish that post with "meh" news, but this restaurant job has been rough for B. He is still working six days a week, and this week he did an 18 hour day and then a 13 hour day in a row (only getting paid for 8 each day.) And then his first paycheck bounced. Yes, really. That hasn't been resolved yet. On top of that, the owner is pretty much nuts - abusive, firing staff left and right (almost daily) and then expecting the salaried workers to make up for it. (I am old and I will not feel bad about yelling at an employee if they did something completely out of bounds - it's a no snowflake zone, but this guy is seriously abusive. It's taking a toll.)

On a hopeful note, a large venue in the area just fired a certain manager. That job is right in B's wheelhouse, and several people who work there contacted him about it right away. He's already sent a resume. We'll see.

That's awful... at this point I'd say not worth it.... if he does get his check... then my opinion is take it and run. It's not worth killing yourself (B) over!

On the positive side, we were approaching the brink of broke with him being out of work for two months, so this has served a purpose.

It's also better IMO to go on job interviews when you have a job than when you don't.

He's got the perfect response for "Why are you leaving" questions at the interview. (My check!)

And it's motivating him to keep looking rather than just settle in, which is very good.

This other place would be a very good opportunity, big company, benefits, etc. and he already knows the gig. Hoping to hear back soon.

Hmmm you are probably right, I didn't think about that (being able to answer interview questions).... but it would be hard for me to stay and tolerate abuse and long hours.

Prayers for a new job. Paycheck bouncing? Aren't there bad ramifications for the owner for that? I think payroll has a higher priority than even rent payments for a business owner.
