Apparently I cannot let this Gymboree thing go. How upset are you @Tuvalu about our beloved Gymboree. Anyway I did some digging and found out why they could not stay in business.
This would be the second bankruptcy for Gymboree in less than two years. It filed for protection in June 2017, after six years without posting an annual profit. At the time, it had more than $1 billion in debt left over from a leveraged buyout by Bain Capital Partners in 2010, and it operated more than 1,280 stores.

It's officially official it's going to get extremely bad here tomorrow. 8 to 12 inches of snow if ice mixes in and maybe 2 feet and a few if it stays all snow. I'm on the rain/ice/snow line. The best I can hope for is it starts as snow so the roads will be cleared faster:bawling::arghh::brb::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: Come here little groundhog:angelic: Stay safe everybody or at least get to Ferret's house before it starts;)

That just sounds ick. I hope you and everyone getting this snowy/icy weather stay safe and warm.

We got 2 inches o snow overnight, but some should melt since the temperature will rise to 42. Going to be frigid on Monday though with a low of 5 and a high of 15. :coldfeet:Of course it is the only day of the week that the weather forecast has a sun instead of clouds.
Brick NJ received only a dusting. Spent 5 minutes clearing off the car and was then all set to drive dd to school after that.

I know . . . :( Really made me wonder about the future for retail, in general. What we'll all miss is the in-person, customer service. It's just not the same when ordering online, and never talking to anyone.

Wired Magazine did a spread a few months back about the future of retail. The upcoming generations want custom clothing and shoes and are willing to pay for it. Even for their kids. Wired is proposing that we'll end up with measurement pods similar to the scanner TSA uses. We'll go to the physical location, get scanned, and order all our clothing online. Because they'll have the exact measurements of our bodies, we'd have clothing that fit us. We wouldn't need to try things on.

I feel so bad for the employees. It does make me wonder why so many brands can stay in business and why some cannot survive. Where do people buy kid clothes from? Department stores are dead. The malls are dead. For little kid clothes Gymboree was great. High quality items that I could pass down and they always looked new. The sales were always amazing too. I wish they could have just become an online shop.

I buy 100% of A's clothing online. Most of her dresses and shirts come from H&M. Her pants and shorts are either H&M or Carter's. I do usually pick up her shoes at Target, but I've bought them from Amazon about 50% of the time too.

And we ask for hand me downs from friends. I see a lot of young people do this. The snow suit A wears is too big for her, but she can wear it for a couple years. I got it from a coworker who's daughter had outgrown it. I've read a few articles that showed this is normal now, asking friends and family for discards rather than buying new clothing for their kids.

I'm absolutely positive they wouldn't have made the decision to close up shop flippantly. It's even more difficult for them to stay afloat being that their flagship brand is theirs. Which means their overhead is not just mall leases which are insanely expensive, but also manufacturing and disseminating their own private clothing line. They could try to reinvent themselves as an online only offering, and maybe creating a subscription box model which is ever popular these days, but it's a hard fought battle. I'm sure they've run the numbers.

I am so sad since I was just starting to be able to shop there again for the next generation of my family. I still have Em’s winter coat from age 3-4 packed away (says a lot about the quality) and hoping Tuvalette might be able to wear it next year.

My youngest just found a dress that my 17 yr old dd wore when she was 8 and it looks like new. My other dd wore it as well.

I have sold my kids used stuff on Ebay. Gymboree was very popular. I buy jackets big and most everything I buy is clearance or on sale. You think many younger people don’t buy new clothes? I don’t mind hand me downs between my kids. I am just so particular about how I care for them. I scrub every stain, wash cold, and hang dry everything to avoid shrinking. A bit obsessive in that regard, but it keeps clothes looking new. I do buy new items every year for each of them because it is nice to have something no one else has worn.
Custom clothing? Maybe @figmentfan423 can make some extra money.

I, initially, thought it was a C-130, but, never got a chance to get a clear look at the nose...

Anyway, I’ve never seen anything quite like that on the side of that highway before, even when our Air Force base was still open...!!!!! :cyclops::hilarious:;):)
Headed for the graveyard or to be reassembled on that backlot tour in DHS. Oh, wait! Probably not! How about some air museum in the area or a lawn ornament for some of those places that you have designed for people with too much money. :)
