If it cannot adjust for things like jaywalking, it stands no chance at becoming an adopted technology.
I don’t trust them. They are computers and can also be hacked. Whose to say that some sick computer genius would hack into a system and program someone’s car to drive off the road? As @Goofyernmost said, computers have a knack for crashing. They also seem to only last a couple if years before
they burn out.

I’m saving this so I can come back and comment later. Stuck at work right now and have a mandatory First Communion meeting at school at 7pm :(

T is at his first outdoor soccer practice of the season.. he had baseball tomorrow and it’s supposed to snow. This weather stinks!!

Being stuck at work stinks worse though. :(

Good question! I believe that someday after a lot of accidents and deaths they will find a way to keep it perfectly safe, but, in order to do that one might as well take a train because it will require designated paths that no one can "accidentally" cross into. I trust technology, but, I don't like the lack of human backup. How many times has ones computer crashed? That can happen with a computerized vehicle as well. Perhaps more electronic backup is involved then in your home computer, but, if nothing else the mess with the ski lift in Georgia loudly lets us know that things fail and with vehicles it can be very catastrophically.

Technology aside, I spent my life loving to drive places. From the fact that I was standing at the door of the DMV on my 16th Birthday to get my drivers license to the fact that to this very day I love road trips. I really cannot get behind just sitting on my butt and doing nothing 24/7 which is what this is all coming too. At the risk of jinxing it, I have driven literally millions of miles just with my own vehicles, not counting the years that I drove buses for a living without one single accident (at fault or otherwise, 54 years and counting). I'm still not tired of it. Why do we need to let machines do everything for us completely? Granted motor vehicles were at one point one of those "machines" that would never replace a horse, but, it depresses me that one more skill goes by the wayside.

Yup and yup. First of all, here's a new story from today--pedestrian killed in Arizona from self-driving car. Woman was crossing the street, outside of the crosswalk. I work in a large city and I see stupid stuff all the time--people constantly jaywalking, or just staring down at their phones, oblivious to the fact that they just stepped out into a street full of moving traffic! :banghead: Just maybe someone in a regular car might have seen that woman, and slammed on the brakes in time. Too late now.

As for the "fun" of driving a vehicle (car, bus, motorcycle), it's not for me; but most men I know love to drive. Hubs hates the thought of anyone but him driving, and he basically doesn't trust (many) other drivers, let alone a machine driver.

And I also have a personal issue with GPS being the only way to find places anymore, when in your car. Hubs likes GPS, but I like paper maps. It's like a little treasure hunt to me to find routes to places. Also, sometimes GPS may not work in certain mountainous areas, like what happened to us a year ago, out in the Berkshires in western MA. Well it was a darn good thing I brought along my dinosaur paper map to refer to, once we got out of GPS range! :p :hilarious:

Well, and yesterday I had a migraine all day, which didn't help. I ended up sleeping for 3.5 hours in the afternoon. Plus I've been running in between buildings for the past three weeks, which doesn't help, and I'm still doing that this week. It would be better if I could just stay in my building instead of running between buildings. Next week I'll be in one building.

I work in a large complex of buildings as well. Sometimes I'm running in multiple directions; but most of the time, I just stay put in one spot. :)

Just wanted to extend a sincere shout out to @donaldtoo, his family, neighbors, friends and colleagues. (Saw the most recent news update about Austin at 4 AM this morning. Decided not to mention it first thing this morning in Chit Chat; but by now, I'm sure most people have caught up with the national news stories.)

Also heard they cancelled a big concert (as part of South by Southwest) tonight, due to some hoax caller (I believe they may have caught the caller--I'm sure he's no relation to the other larger crimes going on down there).

Just sad all this is going on, and hope that the Austin law enforcement and federal authorities can catch this horrible person asap.
