My dad paid for my phone
pink princess phone, land line. Back then it was considered fancy
My dad bought me my first smart phone. It was actually ridiculous...I was coming to the US to help him set up his will and everything, and my phone didn't work in the US, so I asked him to get me a cheap phone that I could use just for the 3 weeks I was there...nothing fancy. Just something I could use to call him and ask what time I was supposed to be at the lawyer's office, or ask where we were meeting. He went and asked my brother, who is a tech geek and who also had an insane need to squeeze every penny he could out of anyone, for advice on a phone. I had said I didn't want anything fancy...it was for 3 weeks and I just needed to be able to call and text. What does my brother do? Recommends a $250 smartphone!! It took me the entire 3 weeks just to learn how to USE the darned thing and it drove me nuts with all the beeps and pings and what not that I couldn't figure out what they were for most of the time. One sound for a text message, another for a facebook message, and I STILL don't know what half those things were. Such a waste of money!! I came back home and I dumped it in a drawer and when my husband asked me if I wanted a smartphone, I said NO!!!! The only reason I ended up getting one is because I kept losing my shopping list or forgetting to bring it to the store with me and I told my husband someone needed to invent a notebook on a string that I could hang around my neck to write my shopping list in. He said "Or you could get a smartphone and get an app for grocery lists." :cautious: I still said no, but I was on the board for choir and I was the only person without a smartphone and they communicated with Whatsapp, which meant I missed a LOT. So I finally broke down and got a darned smartphone. I am still not tied to it like most people seem to be nowadays, but it can be useful. I enjoyed playing with it today while we were waiting for DS's God parents to arrive and it was too dark to read. (my in-laws like candle light)

I was VERY anti-phone-in-the-face until about a year or two ago...now I use it for everything...shared family calendar with all our appts, etc., shared contact lists, texting with my oldest (we got him an old iPhone for when we're at Disney because if we get separated, I can use it to locate him in seconds), texting with hubby/friends/family, e-mail, grocery lists, GPS, reading when I'm waiting for anything, etc. etc. I even caved and bought an FM transmitter so I use it for music in my truck.

Also, I am TERRIBLE at remembering birthdays and appointments or anything that isn't "a normal thing", and it has basically saved me from winning the bad mom of the year award at my sons' schools.

Even better - we're using scheduled alarms to help get my oldest used to doing his own stuff without me reminding him constantly.

Speaking of Chicago, I watched a very nice parade on tv today from the "Magnificent Mile". It was on midday here (a repeat of an evening telecast out in your area recently, I guess). That was a very festive parade (they had some Disney in there, too--advertising of course, for the parks). From what I could see on tv, that area looked like a really nice business and shopping district.

I watched that tonight. I got home and turned on the tv to watch while folding laundry and it was just starting. It was fun to see the Disney characters in the parade. I thought it was kind of funny that I was watching a parade with Disney characters from Chicago, @Gabe1 's neck of the woods, and she is actually in Disney!

We went to a Brazilian steakhouse last night for our anniversary. My daughter is newly potty trained so when she says she needs to go we have to take her, even if we know she doesn't need to go. So her and I walk to the bathroom, and as soon as we get inside it she says "no I don't want to go potty" so we turn around and walk back out.

We get all the way back to where the tables are and she stops dead and says really loudly, "YOU DIDN'T WASH YOUR HANDS!!"

As ALL the people at the nearby tables turn to look at me judging me, and I'm standing there too embarrassed to put the words together that you don't have to wash your hands necessarily if you didn't actually use the bathroom, she adds equally loudly, "I DIDN'T WASH MY HANDS EITHER!!!"

Toddlers are so much fun...:hilarious:

:hilarious:
Oh, do we remember those days...out of the mouths of babes...!!!!! :hilarious: ;) :)

Also, happy anniversary!!!!! :)
Mine and DWifeys 29th is tomorrow...!!!!!!! :joyfull:  :)
