He paid for my phone through college. I had to pay for the device. My mom wanted the ability to contact me. But he was really cheap about it. I was on a 10 cents a minute plan with no texting for a long time. Then we added a 200 texts per month plan for about $5 per month extra, but my mom was the only one allowed to text me. Once I got to college, they switched me over to the $25 unlimited talk and text plan. I didn't have data until June of 2016 when I intended to get it for just a month when we went to Disneyland since DL is very behind on the times and has no in park WiFi. That was $40 per month. I had my dad's blessing on that one (it made it much easier to check wait times for rides. And baseball scoresYour dad paid for your phone? Lucky you!
I never have a phone with a contract because it is so much cheaper to get a pay as you go. I bought a new phone last month because my old one was so old the Disney app wouldn't run on it anymore. My new one is a Sony but I don't like it as much as my old LG.

My mom got an LG after she got rid of her last Samsung. I was a bit distrustful of Samsung after the whole thing with the exploding phone batteries. Her LG was so nice that I got an LG. My last two were HTCs. Nice features, terrible battery life, and they started carping out after less than two years. I love this one. It's an LG X Venture. Nice and thin, but shock resistant, dust resistant, water resistant, and it has a finger print reader, which I didn't even know until I set it up. I like that it takes me less time to unlock now. And now I don't have to worry about it when I go on Splash Mountain. And I can take it in the bath tub with me.
