Because I have been working such long hours I decided to leave work at 3.30pm yesterday. (With my boss' permission.)
I decided to walk to the city center in Zurich to get some fresh air and exercise. I checked Google maps, the route looked pretty easy, I just needed to walk up and then down the mountain.

This was at the bottom of the mountain, I usually take the train to the city as it goes through the mountain and only takes 7 min.
My walk started of nice and relaxing but once the actual mountain part started, holy glutonus maximus, it was quite a work out but after nearly 2 hours I made it to the city center. By then it was nearly dark and all the Christmas lights were on. I went to the Christmas market but it had mostly generic things that you find at any Christmas market in northern Europe. Plus it freaked of the Swiss cheese fondue that is so popular here.
I went to the Ecco shoe shop hoping they had the shoes I am looking for. They did have them but not my size :banghead: .
The shop ordered them in the right size and hopefully I can get them on Saturday.
I then walked toward the main street, enjoying all the light.

It was pretty cold and I was getting hungry so I stopped at McDonald's for some dinner. It is very rare for me to eat out, I always prepare my own meals as I am very frugal except on holidays. I had the Big Bang bacon double burger and I have to say it was better than expected. It had a smokey sauce on it that was delicious. No longer hungry I was ready to tackle my Christmas shopping. Since I am in Switzerlan I just got everyone fancy chocolate. The Swiss really have the best chocolate and the shop smelled heavenly as they make some of their chocolates on site.
After spending an insane amount of money on chocolate I walked on main street towards the train station to catch the train home.DSC_0404.JPG
I thought these dangling lights looked so pretty.:inlove:
By the time I got home I had walked nearly 17000 steps and was tired but happy.

We honeymooned in Patagonia and we backpacked around the Torres del Paine loop. The park signs were great because they were illustrative, but the pictures never matched the actual trail. So we were hiking up this mountain that was virtually straight up, and we kept seeing signs that showed us near the top. We were SO RELIEVED the first couple of times we saw the signs because we were so exhausted by then, but the trail just kept going up and up and up and up. We didn't even end up eating dinner by the time we made camp because we were that tired from the hike!

Your pictures are beautiful!!

Thank you, this mountain was very doable and well signed, I am just not used to going up mountains. I climbed a volcano on Bali in June and it was horrible. No real path, lots of rocks and it was in the middle of the night. By the time we made it to the top I could have cried I was so happy, it was worth it in the end because the sunrise was spectacular but I am never doing that again.

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

There are more picturesque mountains than the one in Zurich. If I get a chance I will try and get a nice picture of one. And haven't you been to Switzerland @Mr Ferret 88? Only 90 min. by plane from London, or take the ferry to France and drive.
I haven't been to Switzerland.
Been to,
Austria
France
Germany
Spain
Norway
Lichtenstein

Oh and Bermuda

Wow, I am impressed with your evening. I no longer hike; Haven't done it since I was a kid, but sounds like you had fun. Swiss chocolate is definitely the best, and that is coming from someone who lives about an hour away from Hershey, PA. I have a bunch of Lindt chocolate in my pantry right now.:hungry: The pictures are gorgeous. I was in Switzerland a few decades ago when I was teen. Beautiful country.:)

As long as you don't want any snow!
No snow for my old bones, just beautiful sunshine. I want to have my morning coffee outside every day.

Please take no offence but the one time I ate Hersey I thought it tasted like soap, worst chocolate I have ever had.

The plus side would be that the headless horseman would be an inexpensive dinner guest because he wouldn't need to eat or drink anything :hilarious::hilarious:
Don't forget about the horse, those animals are expensive to keep.;)

I have little self control when it comes to chocolate so having 2 shopping bags full in my home until 20 December and not eat any is going to be a real struggle.

Switzerland is a beautiful country, very clean and organized. I am just finding it a bit boring to be honest. In London there is always something to but here things close early and nothing is open on Sunday. There aren't that many great museums and the few they have are expensive to get in. Hiking is one of the things I can do that are free and I enjoy. Plus I can walk of some of that Swiss chocolate ;)

You're going to love it!

Just take it slow. It can be overhelming the first time!
Definitely! Good advice.

Not that I remember my first time to WDW. I was five months old.
Or my second time. I was 17 months old.
Or the third time. I was about 22 months then.
I think I have memories from trip 7 or 8.

Since I now consider all of you my Magic friends I just wanted to remind everyone to check that your smoke alarms are working. Replace the batteries if you haven't done so this year.
Make sure you have a clear path to at least 2 exits out of your house and practice with your kids what to do in case of fire/smoke. The holidays are a prime time for house fires and I want you all to stay safe.
