I live by the idea that I will not TAKE the right of way...I wait until it's GIVEN. You can not assume that someone else will stop just because you have the right of way...I'd have been flat many times over if I had just taken it because I was supposed to have it. I tell my kids the same thing...wait to see what the other person does.
I had to take a defensive driving class for a job once and there were so many people who really don't know what they are doing. We were asked, if we were on a highway and there was a car coming from the other direction and we had to swerve one way or the other, would we choose to hit the tree on the shoulder or the small car coming from the other direction. I was the ONLY one who said tree. Everyone said they'd choose the car because it's smaller. :banghead: They couldn't believe I would choose to hit a big huge tree. The instructor asked me why I said tree...I said "Science...the tree is stationary. I hit it only with the force from the speed of MY car. If I hit the car, we hit with our own force, AND that of the car coming at us." The other people in the class left with a bit more information that day...but most people never take such a class. So most people still think it's better to hit the other car. Or maybe that's just Wyoming drivers.

Actually...

I sort of thought that, but the public transportation system here is on a regular schedule this Friday. (Usually they go on a modified schedule if it's a holiday, but they list the holiday as November 11, which is definitely Saturday.)

Our community no longer observes (with days off) Veterans Day. Instead when they created MLK day they traded Veterans for MLK.

Very true, and there are so many simple things that people never even think of. Defensive driving is not necessarily just for you, the others on the road need to think of the small things as well. One example we used was lets say that you are driving down the right lane on an interstate type highway. As you approach the entrance ramp, what do you do? Most people said just keep the course because you have the right of way. The answer is that you do one of two things or perhaps both, you either cover your brake peddle and be prepared to apply them if the person decides to just move into your lane and/or if the lane to the left of you is open, you move over to that lane. You don't have to, but, it may very well prevent making contact with someone that is on a different cloud or your vehicle is in their blind spot. A couple of minutes in that other lane can prevent a collision, injury or death. You had the right of way, but, you opted to minimize the risk by driving defensively.

My belief is that more emphasis should be put on testing and training defensive driving for getting a drivers license. I just found out that here in North Carolina they don't even test parallel parking anymore because so many people didn't know how to do it. I had to parallel park a 42 foot bus to get my CDL. Nailed it first try. You never know when you are going to need to get out or into a tight spot. That is all part of defensive driving, preparation and anticipation. It helps if you can have the same mental thoughts that I do. That is that every single other person besides myself is an absolute, drunken idiot and picturing what type of stupid thing they are liable to do. Seems like an awful way to think, but, just keep it to yourself and you will live to old age. (which in itself is nothing short of an adventure)

Oh my! Do you know my pop...?! That's always been another one of his that, I know, has saved me major grief, if not my own sorry darn life ;), over the years, and I've posted this before... "Drive like everyone except yourself is an *******, and you definitely stand a better chance of a longer life".

More perfect advice from him..,
"Green, actually, doesn't mean go. Green means check yourself in every direction, then go."

I love my pop...!!!!!!! :joyfull: :)

I was just thinking the same thing. I don't think Disney and Fox goes together.
Wow, theres rumours now floating that Disney might acquire most of Fox assets (Fox Television, Fox Movie Studios) to reduce the range and capacity of Netflix and not to get Fox's things.

Neither did Disney and ESPN or Disney and their Speedway. But now they are trying to create their own version of Netflix, first pulling their films away from Netflix and now purchasing Fox Movies and other baggage Fox companies. It will be interesting to see if they can pull it off.

This could really upset Fox's way of doing business. Iger was pretty angry when he quit the Advisory Committee and got beat'n up pretty bad by Fox and Fox also took Disney to task. So Iger could have his revenge and get a Movie Studio to replace MGM. Interesting. Very Interesting. If Disney pulls this off this could be a major news media coup! Much broader than just the Disney vs Netflix. Never underestimate what Iger is plotting.

Great post @Goofyernmost. It always makes sense to move to the left when you are on an interstate and you see an aggressive driver speeding up the ramp and showing no signs of yielding to your right of way. I don't want to waste emotional energy "playing chicken" with such drivers.
If I'm on I-95, chances are I'm going someplace far.....and I have my family with me. I typically travel 68 - 75MPH depending on the road and conditions. If I'm driving (for example) from NJ to Florence SC...that takes concentration! Again, I'm not gonna burn mental energy on "holding my ground" when moving to the left is no big deal.

Yep, if at all possible, I just casually move left. Or, just tap my brakes and let 'em merge. Definitely, no biggy either way...it ain't rocket science for me...! ;) :)

Well they have official sanction now. You have heard of America First. America is made up of individuals and now it will be ok to take care of ourselves first, the hell with the rest of the people. Not a new idea at all, just one that is now encouraged.

Indeed. It saddens me to think this is true. Makes me sadder to believe you are correct. But given how we evolving it makes me unsettled. It is certainly a tank of liberalism. The push now is the to heck with anyone who gets in the way of illuminating compassion. Out with caring and well being for all no matter what their special needs may be. Hurts my heart. As a woman who has had children in hospitals, I can't imagine my kids living in a world with the logic to go backwards 100 years for the great land we live in. I can't imagine my special needs DD being denied all she needed to become a successful professional she is now. Blessed she isn't the one in the crossfire of being ignored now. I'm so blessed she was born in the 90s and not 2017. So much I don't understand why. Your post, wisdom of age. :inlove:

I usually have a few gifts by now, but this year, I'm just not into it. I think once we get closer to Thanksgiving, I'll start to put some effort into it.
I much prefer shopping at stores than online but hate lines so I try and get done early. that being said I may or may not have popped into a store or 2 a day or 2 before Christmas just to take a look at all the panicked people:oops:

The swelling has come down a lot, just a little swollen. So that is good news. He is getting around okay, he has some problems with the steps in the front of the house so he hasn't left the house much. He is lucky that he can do a lot of work from home.

Mount Laundry has been 95% conquered. And you are right I will need some ME time, I will get a few hours tomorrow and Thursday as he has some church stuff that can't be done at home. AND, since he insisted and because he can do what he needs to do to take care of himself without me I will be having my long weekend in WDW in 4 days! I was afraid I would have to cancel but looks like I won't have to. Thanks for the Pixie Dust!
THNX for the update and so happy for both of you.
