I had two brothers and one sister and all our parties were the same. All were at home, and we'd invite maybe 6-8 kids. People brought (reasonably priced) gifts, and then we'd have cake and ice cream. The big "entertainment" was Pin the Tail on the Donkey. (Note: with all the birthdays for 4 kids, that Donkey target had so many holes and rips in it--but my mother kept putting it up each time! That was from her generation--fix/repair everything. That darn donkey had more tape holding it together, from multiple years of use!) :D

So, considering some of the big bashes I've heard about (for some families nowadays), I could say that our generation missed out on more pricey extravaganzas. But, since no one had parties like that (that I knew of back then), we didn't know anything else, so we thought the ratty old Pin the Tail on the Donkey was big fun! :p
So did ours, missed out that is. A home baked cake was good enough for us. We did get candles on the cake, and that was the big fun...blowing them out! It was nice to be "special" for that dinner and dessert.

I'm sure it has something to do with living on a ship for several years with the worst food ever.
I understand our next door neighbor was in a submarine for 30 years. He would never want to be on a boat again. It was the close quarters , and hardly ever getting to see sunlight. That sounds so miserable. I'm sorry for your hubby. I'm glad he is on dry land.

Sympathy like. I hope nothing comes of any of those nasty storms and you get to go on your cruise. As of the last time I looked it looks like I won't get much or any of Jose but still fear for @MinnieM123 and @FutureCEO' future weather
It's funny, I've lost all desire to go on another cruise. With so many suffering in Texas and Florida...I'm done with it. We are spending one night at the Caribe Hotel near Disney. I would rather spend my time on dry land right now. RCL had signed up at Puerto Rico and St. Kitts, they are both in the direction of hurricane Maria. Right now, the crew and other's are living on the Oasis. They have reserved only the suites for those that have a suite booked. We are not in that class!:facepalm::D:D:D

I'm willing to stay home, and have another vacation in the future. The list of places to go, may be dwindling . They should as others help as many people in the Caribbean as they can. Think of the supplies and food that could be delivered to those without anything.

At least most single engine planes glide very well if you lose the engine:)
Ha! Funny you say that. 30 years ago:eek:,(hate talking in decades), my parents and I took a plane tour of the Catskill Mtns. in NY. The pilot was a mostly toothless man who looked more like an old pirate than a pilot. :DMy mother was not a fan of flying even though she was a travel agent and had to fly all the time for work. The plane was a Cessna of some sort. When we were up in the air the dear pilot said not to worry, that even if the engine failed, we could still glide a long time. My mother turned white. I of course thought that was hysterical. Now much older, wiser, and more aware of my mortality I have inherited her fear. :D

We are going with my sister and BIL. We are waiting to see what they want to do. If I get a chance to not go, we will not go. I'm thinking spending more time in Florida (not just Disney) would spread the money around for those who live there. Bring back tourist dollars. I'm hoping they want out too. They asked us, so it's up to them if we go or not.
