That's what we've always done. I make the cake myself, or we did cupcakes that the kids could decorate themselves. We did games...for DD I drew a massive Cinderella and we played Pin the glass slipper on Cinderella's foot. For DS, It was pin the soccer ball in the goal with Ernie. And over here, a traditional party game is to tie a marshmallow or a piece of this really dense cake/bread to a piece of string, and they had to try and catch it in their mouths. We did bobbing for candy. And usually some sort of craft with DD's....bracelets, or necklaces. The boys usually just wanted to play soccer. Now DD doesn't want an actual party...just wants to hang out and watch movies with her best friend. And we go to a play gym with DS because we can't find kids who want to come to his party. That may change this year, though, now that he is in chess instead of soccer. He fits in so much better in chess and maybe he'll actually have some friends. Parties at home are a lot of work, but they are fun.
Sometimes I wish we still did parties at home but seeing James' is in the middle of summer the pool works out better(we can use the inside of our club house for free as long as we clean up after) and our older ds and his buddies like an all you can eat place that's centrally located

Every party I ever threw my kids was always at my house. They would play games, eat pizza and cake and ice cream. We have done paint your own pottery where we would go to a paint your own shop, but then would come back to my house for food. Once I did do a gymnastics party for my youngest at the gym my kids attend. But that was only $90 to rent the gym for 2 hours and have 2 coaches do the activities for the kids, like obstacle courses and such. Money well spent.:) My neighbor has spent hundreds at those bouncy house party places.
We did the Chuck E Cheese once and only once! 20 kids in my house NO WAY! We did a local pizza place with a small play area once for my older ds after they had a fire and rebuilt. Those were the only 2 times we did grammar school parties not in our home.

My perfect day went to heck quickly. ok maybe it wasn't so perfect after waiting up for James, getting up to get my dh off to work at 4(at least I got to sleep until 3:30) and getting the kids to a fund raiser before going shopping but it was pretty good considering and was looking to get better. Now I have to tell my dh and James on of their favorite aunts has passed when they get home:( It's going to be a rough week:(

Yes you do!!!!!!!!!!!!! The rule is if you don't have 10 minutes for meditation you need an hour!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry no cashew milk but I can make hot chocolate with almond or coconut milk. I also have a no tea iced chai(my own spice blend0
Well then I need at least 2.
How soon you forget. I make most of my gifts for older family members and the boys only want electronics so I'm able to knock off most of my list without dealing with crowds:joyfull:
What kind of gifts do you make?
YES!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to go on one of their cruises but my dh refuses to go on one:(
After our cruise for 3 days in 2014, dh does not want to go on another. He felt claustrophobic and thought it was too crowded. It was also really expensive for us since we needed 2 cabins. I did get one of the cheapest 3 day cruises, but we actually get more value going to Disney itself.

I usually only ever invited up to 10 kids at the most except for when I had the gymnastics party. I could get 25 for the $90.

So far I baked a loaf of oatmeal bread, potato stew is simmering and I am preparing a pureed vegetable soup which I just call tomato, :)because if I call it vegetable then a certain child will not consume it. ;)It is actually full of cauliflower, carrots, zucchini, onion, and tomato paste. The tomato seems to take over the flavor. I compare it to those of you that ever ate Chef Boyardee ravioli, the tomato sauce. :)
