I'm both completely disgusted and extremely proud at the amount of stuff we were able to provide my baby. I grew up dirt poor; my mom had to fashion cloth diapers from thrift store blankets. Donating all that gear to someone providing for their children against poverty like my mom did made it so much less painful to box it all up.

Bonus points for having room in our garage for the cars before the first snowfall hits too though!!
Good for you! We grew up dirt poor, too...well, I was 6 when my parents divorced, so I was past the diaper stage, but yep...even thrift store was too expensive sometimes. I got a lot of hand-me-downs from older girls in the community, and my mom was amazing with a shoe-string budget. Coupons, sales, buying in bulk. It really makes you appreciate what you have. We donate all our kids' old clothes to either an orphanage in Romania, or a facility for the severely handicapped in Sri Lanka. (my friend is from Sri Lanka and her friend works there) When we moved here, I wouldn't let my husband throw anything out because there were people who could use it...we had dishes and blankets and things that he was like "We'll never use this...let's throw it away." But having been one of those people growing up, I know how much we relied on those things that other people didn't want anymore...if I can help someone else out, I'd rather do that than throw it away.

Saw a feel good story on our local news this morning, about so many items still being donated to hurricane relief areas. Many people brought things to Boston City Hall this week, and now our local Teamsters Boston Local 25 are volunteering a few of their tractor-trailer trucks and their volunteer truck drivers, to deliver all this to Texas. :)

I had no plans and was looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend, but this week we made a plan here and there and now I feel like it's going to be a really busy weekend!

Tomorrow my toddler and I are going to lunch with some friends and then getting the last of her baby stuff ready to be dropped off at the donation point. There's this great organization here that works directly with families who cannot afford baby things so we prefer to donate to them instead of GoodWill. Once that's done,.... there's no more denying that my teeny tiny baby is a little girl now :cry:

Saturday we're going to a festival and eating Amish fry pies until we feel sick. If you've never had an Amish fry pie, you NEED to try them!

Sunday we're going to this annual gigantic flea market type deal that we go to every year.

Monday, I don't know. Maybe the zoo? We need to weed our garden beds again, so maybe Monday will be a work around the house day.
Amish pies are delicious! I can get them at an Amish bakery near here. :hungry:

Sympathy like. I have a few errands to run today as well! But I get to run them while not at work and the toddler will be with the husband. Kid free shopping!!
I'm taking my older ones with me to do the heavy lifting:D Home Depot, Lowes and Harbor Freight are all closed today or at least that's what I'm telling the oldest one:oops::D:angelic: I'm going to Staples to try and find tracing paper by the roll.

Last night, I was ready to go to bed when I realized that I hadn't seen Jasmine in a while. So I walked around calling her, got her food bag out, started shaking it...no Jasmine. I checked everywhere for her and finally gave up, hoping she was just being stubborn. Then, this morning, I called her and heard a very faint meow. Last night, my parents had asked me to get something out of my dad's closet, and she followed me in without my realizing it. Poor thing spent the night in the closet. I felt so bad. :(

Me too. I'm now thinking about getting a kitten but my dh isn't a cat person. Today may have sealed the I want a cat deal. On my way home I passed my neighbor's outside cat defending his food bowl. A bear came around the corner sniffing and out of nowhere came kitty with his back up, fur out and hissing away. The bear ran into the woods in fear:joyfull: If I get a cat it will bean inside only one seeing we have lots of critters in my neighborhood.
Boo bear yayyy kitty!! We only let Chloe out on the screened porch. I couldn't be the one who let her wander outside all day. My sister did with the kitty siblings and all but one died from being outdoors. He is now an inside cat!
